Review of Carry Me Down - M J Hyland

not as bad as expected, not too bad at all

Advantages: Interesting story, well acted, funny in parts, price
Disadvantages: poorly produced, too long for me and disappointing ending

...As an Adam Sandler fan i didn't get around to seeing this film for a long time, the reason being that the opinions and revies i had seen and heard of it were not the best. In the end i decided to buy the dvd and give it a go, if nothing else it completed my Adam Sandler collection lol. I must say after watching the film, my opinions are still mixed, it is not the usual Adam Sandler film and although funny in parts, i would necessarily call it a comedy. The story behind the film is a Mexican mother, Flor (Paz Vega) moves to America with her daughter Christina (Shelbie Bruce) to search for a better life. She gets a job as housekeeper for the Clasky Family, John Clasky (Adam Sandler), Deborah Clasky (Tea Leoni), Bernice (Sarah Steele), Georgie (Ian Hyland) and Deborah's mum Evelyn (Cloris Leachman) (surprisingly one of the more...

Angry ranty comedy

Advantages: Writing Style, Comedy, Looking at the past TV, Well written
Disadvantages: May offened....some

...anger with no point at all to them. Brooker whilst his themes often seem uncorrelated does tend to keep to the same target for a full rant, and is exquisite at thinking of the right insult every time. Overall a brilliant book show casing the best in sharp tongued rants and the most wondrous TV reviews available. Ian Hyland (the Suns TV writer) could only dream of having half the originality of Brooker, and sadly none of the other TV writers seem to even make a note worthy effort to match the bar Brooker was setting years ago....

NOT JUST ASHLEY COLE & CHERYL TWEEDY. BUT MOSTLY.

Advantages: Well presented and illustrated, a toddlers newspaper
Disadvantages: Keep out the reach of children, no smut spared

...about - like the Arctic Monkeys at the Brits. Come on, how can we really have a music awards show when all our best music is imported, bar Leona Lewis. Carole Malone and Ian Hyland are the two most distinctive columnists in NOTW, and whilst one expresses her femine attitude towards the world, Hyland is more of a Harry Hill type that pokes fun at everything on the television. These sections are rarely that interesting, as I read the paper for the exclusives not the opinions, and it can be incredibly irritating when you do not agree with an opinion of a columnist. Also coming with all the trimmings of a normal newspaper, such as the crosswords and agony aunts, even on a slow week you are likely to find something in the News of the World. A tabloid created with keeping the reader entertained in mind, and with all their money they can afford...

not the usual sandler film

Advantages: good family fun, Paz Vega

...I bought this dvd as i am a fan of Adam Sandler. I was under the impression this was a romantic comedy but it doesnt really fit into that genre of films. Although Sandler is the "name" on the film the main character is Flor a mexican who searching for a better life for her and her daughter Cristina leaves Mexico for life in America. Flor, played by the beautiful Paz Vega,does not speak English but she needs a job to pay the bills and becomes housekeeper to the Clasky family, John Clasky(Adam Sandler), Deborah Clasky (Tea Leoni), Bernice (Sarah Steele), Georgie (Ian Hyland) and Deborah's alcholic mum Evelyn played wonderfully by Cloris Leachman. The Clasky's are a well off family thanks to John being an acclaimed chef but are very dysfunctional with Deborah's relationship with Bernice being at the forefront of any troubles...

Advantages: Travolta's good, the characters are okay and the plots a good basis
