...My room is currently a bit of a mess. Clothes (clean) all over the place, few mugs with tea dregs in the bottom, half used tubs of Vaseline everywhere, a suitcase (empty) lying open in the middle of the floor and a guitar or two kicking about at the sides. Right next to the rather large pile of various coloured nail polish bottles (an art project I'm working on) lies a pile of DVDs I have come to known as Procrastination Heaven. Having exhausted every other way I could think possible to escape actually having to tidy (yep, EVERY way) I glanced at the pile. On the top was a film I've been trying to avoid just as much as the cleaning. After a few short moments (that felt like a lifetime of deciding) I finally convinced myself that I would just have to do it. The movie I mean. ...I am Legend was the 2007; sci- fi horror adapted from the 1954 Francis Lawrence, and a remake of the classic The Omega Man. The film starred Will Smith, in what was to be his first horror film. Opening in late 2007, the film grossed well over $500 million worldwide. I Am Legend - Wasn't legendary for me!!!

Advantages: Some good moments of suspense. Good scene setting.
Disadvantages: Lost it's story to some daft horror scenes.

I enjoy watching end of the world type scenario's like The Day After Tomorrow or Independence Day - big action films, when humanity pulls together to save the world. Advantages: Good set design, good acting. Story line had potential to be good.
Disadvantages: The way the film is filmed is too similar to alot of other films, why make this film???

I AM REFERBISHING THIS REVIEW

Advantages: Will Smith plays role brilliantly, overall the film is good
Disadvantages: Slow, he isn't strictly the only one left alive, CGI rough around edges

...You can like something, or not. The worst situation for me personally, is not being able to make up my mind. I hope this introduction isn't giving too much away. Ha . . . . . Whats it all about ? Ok, I'm not going to spend a huge amount of time telling you everything about the film, as it is something I would recommend you see, but basically its one of those "end of the world" situations. Dr. Kripper (Emma Thompson) makes a breakthrough in medicine and has come up with a cure to cancer. By altering the measels virus she has achieved a 100% cure rate, which she makes clear in her television interview (opening scene of the film) 3 years later the film cuts to a deserted New York city. Advantages: great film
Disadvantages: great build up, but solved in no tme at all

...I saw this film at the cinema starring Will Smith and it was great. I am Legend, the film is about a break out virus that engulfs America. Robert Neville played by Will Smith is the last man uninfected left trying to find the cure to save the world before its too late. A good story line but the ending lets the film down. The build up and ideas of isolation are well put over, but 1 hour and 30 mins build up for a 4 min solution. I was blown away by this film from the start. Will Smith does a fantastic job of single handedly holding an entire performance together and displaying the emotional changes of a man pushed to his very limits, in a way that is both realistic and captivating. The only downside to the film may come in the final parts where the plot gets caught up a bit and the pace and message of the film seems to change...

Advantages: A charismatic performance from Will Smith and great opening half-hour.
Disadvantages: Too many effects and not enough story.

...with warm brass and plaintive piano and rising strings bring tension to the final attack. "I Am Legend" has a promising start but falls into cliché when it turns Hollywood action movie. It's a shame because Will Smith's committed performance hints at a deeper, more emotionally satisfying story. The direction is workmanlike but undermined by the number of visual effects shots that suck the menace out of the situation. The writing does itself no favours by wimping out and throwing in an unnecessary happy ending that struggles to justify the name of the movie. So overall the film is disappointing and certainly won't become a legend....
