Great value servers
Review of HP ProLiant ML370 G4 - Xeon 3.6 GHz by
goosey2
Advantages: Good build quality, easy setup
Disadvantages: Looks a bit dated
...for six disks you can set it up with a mirrored pair for the OS and still have enough room for a RAID5 data set that includes a hot spare. Some of the servers I have built do not allow for this kind of configuration as you can only have one container on the backplane.
When it comes to support HP are pretty good although I have found IBM to be slightly better on this score but I have dealt with IBM a lot more so it may be a slightly biased view.
On the whole if I had to recommend a server for running a small/medium sized business using somtheiing like Microsofts Small Business server I would definatley go with either one of the 300 ranges or an X2 series IBM. The only shame with it is that they have dropped the Compaq branding from the case. As far as I'm concerned HP do printers and Compaq make servers but if thats the only real criticism I...

X206 Entry level/Home server
Review of IBM eServer xSeries 206 8482 - C 2.4 GHz by
goosey2
Advantages: Very low cost
Disadvantages: No potential
...of the coin, if you are just starting up a new business, need somewhere to store your newly created spreadsheets and powerpoint documents and cost is an issue, where better than £500 worth of IBM server in the corner of your garage? It's always going to beat the £300 super clone server your mate can build you because he'll probably be on holiday in Benidorm when it all falls over just before tomorrows big meeting. IBM on the other hand won't be.
Sorry if your new business is building super clone servers for new businesses but that's just how I see it. Oh and for an extra £150 take a look at the HP ML150G2 as it has a Xeon processor or if you can stretch to an extra £1000 buy a mirrored IBM X226 (See my X226 review)...

Review of ThinkPad T40 2373 - Pentium M 1.3 GHz - 14.1" TFT by

Advantages: average spec, great for developers
Disadvantages: looks/appearance

This machine is one of the newest brought out by IBM, which makes it something to look forward to. Well it is. I say this because I’m a person who develops websites, and using a piece of machinery like this did impress the judge. If you are a common Joe then, lets face it you won't be amazed.
The unit faces an awckward task of creating versatility, while still trying to impress everyone with the looks of a London double decker.
The 1.5 Ghz processor can handle almost anything that the world has to offer in terms of software developing or corporate dealings. The unit comes preinstalled with 256 SDRAM and a portable 40Gb hardrive. This makes it an ok item for home users, but again who would want this in their living room spoiling the view.
The 14.1" monitor has the capability...

granny smiths' of computers
Review of Apple Power Mac G5 - PPC G5 2 GHz by
mike_kular
Advantages: looks, speed, graphics stability
Disadvantages: lack of available software
...and graphics processing. No matter what programs you use on the system, you are assured of great graphics. The usual software, Avid express and final cut pro, work wonders. They enable the most determined website manufacturer / graphics designer the utmost speed. With a dual 2GHZ processor enabling speeds 2.2 times faster than the standard 2.2GHZ xeon model, these figures were all obtained via performance tests.
The capability of reading word and image files from windows, is magical, as this will allow users to switch systems without to much fuss. The only tricky part is finding any extra software for the system; although they are available the prices can reach upwards of £2000 excluding licences. This is a bit over the top, but for a spec of what it has, I think these allow a full potential to be reached.
The fiddly parts include the mouse...

The V7010 - Not as a good as it seems...
Review of Fujitsu Siemens AMILO PRO V7010 - Celeron D 325 2.53 GHz - 15.1" TFT by
mattyprice4004
Advantages: Cheap, good speakers and ATI graphics chipset, Runs cool
Disadvantages: Only runs cool because of HUGE fans so noisy, Graphics are actually awful, Bad keyboard
...Most people looking for a laptop will have an idea that the speed of a machine in MHz or GHz will have a direct impact on performance. True, but if you take this to the extreme like a lot of people and base your buying choice on ourely speed, you may fall into the V7010s trap.
The Celeron D CPU in this laptop runs at a smooth 2.53GHz, which will certainly appeal to a lot of people on paper. But be in for a surprise when you power the machine on for the first time....
To me the Fujitsu felt slower than my Compaq Armada M700 running at 1GHz with only 128MB of RAM, although both of them ran XP Home Edition.
The speed is only the first shortcoming of the V7010, as you will find out shortly.
Everything looks bright and rosy on paper - 40GB 'Fast' IDE Hard Disk, ATI IGP 9000 Graphics, Celeron D 2.53GHz CPU... but when you try and use...

For Business purpose
Review of ThinkPad R50 1829 - Pentium M 1.5 GHz - 15" TFT by
waiho
Advantages: Stable
Disadvantages: Heavy
...I have been setup 30 piece of IBM R50 thinkpad for a new company. Basically what happen is I encounter IBM have thier own software install when the brand new R50 delivery to the customer. The most rediculors things is the IBM software use up 3 GB space which not inluded the Operating system. Which mean this R50 come with 40GB harddrive, user only will have 30GB to use, the rest is software usage.
Come to the point of hardware issue. This product come with centrino 1.5 and built-in WIFI.
Everything is solid look and reliable.
Boot up is not as fast as what you think after all the personal software installation which use for startup program. Make you feel like not a 1.5 centrino product.
I do not advice home user getting this laptop is because you will get bored of the look. If you insist to get a IBM. I would advice you to get a T41p...

An extremely fast processor
Review of Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 / 3 GHz processor by
Xplodzion
Advantages: Very Fast, Stock fan is not too loud
Disadvantages: Further overclocking would require a better fan
...This is the fastest standard Intel Core 2 Duo you can buy, the E6850 has a 333Mhz FSB which is 1,333Mhz Effective so it has more memory bandwidth than its descendants.
The E6850 has a VID of 1.35V most of the time (some of them have a VID of 1.3v although it's uncommon) and runs slightly hotter than a E6750 with a VID of 1.3, during my tests I also noticed it is harder to overclock than an E6750 but only by a small amount, me getting the clock speeds of the E6850 up to 3.45Ghz while I managed to get the E6750 up to just under 3.65Ghz, this was just with the boxed fans that came with the processors, although if you bought custom coolers, you would get much better.
Conclusion:
While I could not get it to overclock as high as an E6750 in my tests, you could easily reach over 4Ghz if you bought good enough cooling for it, however...
