IBM Quality @ IBM Price

Advantages: Good extra features. Can play CD's from keyboard
Disadvantages: Price?

...Now here’s an opinion that nearly didn’t get written, mainly because I’m too busy using the damned thing to write about it. I’m talking about my IBM Rapid Access Keyboard. I have been using this for about 18 months now, and if I remember correctly it cost me about £30 from PCW, the shop whose name I can’t bring myself to say in full! Since keyboards can be had for a fiver upwards, what’s so special about it? Well, nothing from the “Immense Bowel Movement”* is ever going to be cheap, but it does carry some extra features, which set it part from the “fiver jobs”. *Some “IBMers” have their own pet theories. “I Bin Moved” is one heartfelt cry, whilst German employees have been known to call it “Ich Bin Müde” – I am tired. Firstly...

IBM POWER PROCSSOR BOARD.

Advantages: CONFIGURES IN TWO WAYS.
Disadvantages: MIGHT BE COSTLY TO SOME.

...Well this actually awakens your pc by increasing the processing speed of your PC. My previous processor, which is Intel, has actually gone old so I needed some up grade. In terms of recommendations, I will highly recommend this to the fullest because of its processing speed and efficiency. With the 2-way 1.65ghz processor with a 36mb l cache, the processor board is capable of processing perfectly and all right so this is a good alternative if you actually want to upgrade your PC. The cache memory has good memory capacity of 72mb L3 cache. The new processor on the p5-550 allows you to configure in both ways either a 2- way or 4 way system. With the new 1.65ghz processor, there are wide ranges of system storage offerings. As a pc gamer, the new IBM processor board has given me some special entertainment with my games by...

IBM's "Premium" Flatpanels

Advantages: Flatpanel : take up little space. Great quality sound.
Disadvantages: Simplistic design, slightly flimsy. Lack of volume/treble/bass switches. Expensive.

...Introduction Late last month, I was asked to build a high quality PC for a friend. I don't just mean high quality internal components either, the guy wanted a high definition monitor, top class keyboard and optical mouse...and yeah you guessed it : brilliant speakers. Being only used to purchasing speakers for under 20 quid, I was rather stumped when he asked for speakers in the 50 pounds and up range. So off I went, scouring the computer fairs of the northwest in search of some super speakers. Eventually I came across a stall which seemed to specialise in input components and speakers. After browsing for awhile I caught sight of the IBM multimedia speaker box. The first thing I noticed was the pricetag, a rather hefty 59.99 pounds. I'm no pro regarding speaker specs, but a quick scan of the back of the box convinced me...

IBM Trackpoint - the little red dot.

Advantages: Very neat little movements, and, for me at least, more control than a TouchPad
Disadvantages: Can make the tip of your finger sore during long sessions!

...When I first opened my Thinkpad, I was impressed, as you'd expect when opening your first laptop. However, when I came to try and move the cursor I was stumped. I looked all over the keypad, and couldn't find anything I recognised as a way to move the cursor. I had only ever used laptops with Touchpads (the little window you slide your figner over to move the cursor). Eventually (yes, shamefully it was a good 10-15 minutes), my brushed against the small red dot in the centre of the keyboard that I had mistaked for a microphone, or perhaps some device to stop the screen touching the keys when closed. The cursor moved! And so began my adventures with the IBM TrackPoint. At first it is a bit difficult to navigate with it. But after about and hour of use, I was happily playing slow-reaction games (Chicken Invaders, Kahuna Reef...

A ~ Z OF ME

Advantages: Its about me
Disadvantages: its about me

...I did this questionnaire a while ago and posted it onto my Bebo page alongside a few other ones which my sister sent to me so as i could fill them out and post them on Bebo. I dont really post much stuff in the Cafe section of Ciao so I thought that this particular questionnaire would fit in nicely in this section as it basically is an A-Z of me. A *Are you available?: Nope! Sorry Guys, I've been happily married to a wonderful man called James for the last three years. But we have been together for nearly 5 years in total • What is your age?: Isn't it rude to ask a lady here age? I'm nearly 23 I'll be 23 on the 22nd of October so remember to leave me a Happy Birthday message lol. • What annoys you?: There's lot's of things which annoy me but one thing in particular which I really don...

The Pro's Of Pro Namel

Advantages: Helps to strengthen tooth enamel. Improves general oral health.
Disadvantages: Steep pricetag. Potentially leaky cap.

...After recently visiting the dreaded dentist, I was informed that I had a major problem with acid erosion on the enamel of my teeth, which means basically that my teeth are being worn away at a worrying rate. As a result, when reading a magazine, which my girlfriend had bought, I noticed an advert for a new toothpaste from Sensodyne designed to combat acid erosion. That toothpaste was called Sensodyne Pro Namel. Firstly, a touch of sciency healthy stuff: - Acid erosion is now a problem affecting more and more people here in Britain. With more fizzy drinks being consumed, the problem is only going to get worse, and even stuff like acidic fruit (oranges, lemons etc) can cause a problem, as can anything with citric acid as a preservative in. Even brushing your teeth to vigorously can cause them to wear away at an increased rate. One...

Lexmark Z 1520

Advantages: cheap, good looks
Disadvantages: a bit big

...Lexmark Z 1520 Lexmark are a company that have been designing and making printers for a while now, so firstly you know that they are great quality. However one bad ting about them is that their ink is quite dear compared with other printer manufacturers. You can however shop around, buy cheaper ink compatibles or even refill your old cartridges if you want to save the odd quid or two. The printer itself looks very cool and futuristic, its cool shiny white body and its black panels go well to give this printer a stylish edge against all its other competitors in the market today. It is however quite long and does appear quite big in the flesh. I cant help thinking they could have saved a lot of space and I feel that they really could have made it smaller and more compact. Also with this one, there’s the opportunity to do...

Review - The HTC Touch Pro 2

Advantages: well designed, good touchscreen, good QWERTY keypad, improved sofware, good widescreen display
Disadvantages: Expensive, no spec bump, no flash module, heavy

... HTC Touch Pro 2 It wasn't all too long ago that I was eagerly awaiting the arrival of HTC's first Touch Pro handset, but when I did get my hands on it I was a little disappointed. I obviously wasn't the only one as I now have in my hand the new version, the HTC Touch Pro2. Even with its improved software and a very nicely designed tilt screen, I still needed to be convinced this was a serious alternative to competitive Smartphone's like the iPhone 3GS, Nokia N97 and the host of available BlackBerry's. Design and Features There is no denying that the new Pro2 is a very visually appealing handset, the 3.6 inch touchscreen allows for a 480x800 widescreen VGA resolution, using a customised version of the Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1 OS. Although it is very 'business' like in appearance, its metal and black...

Logitech Z-5500...It will blow your head off!!!

Advantages: Very loud, very good quality, easy to set up
Disadvantages: Big and heavy subwoofer but that's to be expected!

..., I did some research on the type of connectors I would need and where to plug them in. As it turned out I could theoretically plug some speakers straight into the ps3 via optical cable to deal with games and films. So, pretty simple then...or not. I never thought it would be so hard to find some reasonably priced speakers! Almost all of the surround sound kits come with a DVD player which I did not need because of the ps3's ability to play them as well as Blue rays.... So after failing miserably to find any, I eventually came across the Logitech Z-5500 - and I'm glad that I did. ~ The Setup I Have Now Got ~ When I found these speakers I originally thought that they would not be suitable due to the fact that on the box it says they are to be used mainly for PC's - but this was printed long before the PS3 came about, apparently. Now my set...
