My Siemens A60... A Bargain

Advantages: Value for money, colour screen, easy to use
Disadvantages: The cancel button

...I recently purchased my siemens A60 at the link. It was £60 on the orange network and included 5 texts free per day for a year. If you buy the text saver deal on other phones it costs £20 a year, so to get it free made the phone even more value for money. Setting up my phone was relatively easy, with easy to follow instructions in the booklet. I did try to set it up online on the orange site but had problems as it kept restarting. When I rang the orange company to activate it the operator asked me about 10 questions and told me what to do with my phone to activate it as well as text saver. His instructions were clear and concise and soon I had my phone in working order. My A60 is black (covers are not yet available in the UK), with a colour display of 101 x 80 pixel, which is actually fairly big for a mobile. It can be used...

NetVista A40i upgraded

Advantages: Really improved with extra RAM
Disadvantages: music jumps with connection.

...I wrote a review a few weeks ago about my NetVista A40i. (see below) and I was really impressed even then. Well, I am writing to report the upgrades I have made to the system. The problems I mentioned in the last review, which were the music skipping on conncetion/disconnection of the modem, time taken for the modem to disconnect, have not, alas, been solved. But. I installed a network card (MENTOR) which was no great shakes, and a hub (also mentor) and wired it up to my friends computer which is in the same room, with CAT5. This network is working seamlessly, with TCP/IP and IPX, and I run my scanner on his computer and the printer on mine and there is no delays or anything. With the WinME on my machine, when I placed the card in and switched on, it recognised the chipset and installed the appropriate drivers on its own...

Canon Power Shot A60 - a very user-friendly digital camera

Advantages: Ease of use, quality, versatility, robust construction, good instructions, good value
Disadvantages: Quite heavy on batteries

...I have owned this digital camera for two years now and it has been a real 'friend'. Absolutely no operating problems and very neat and convenient to carry around without being too small. I am a big guy with large hands and find the current obsession with smaller and smaller products quite frustrating, (hence I have a rather larger than average mobile and I will not buy anything with tiny keys). The Canon A60 is ideal for me as it has the feel of a good solid product and has just enough options on it - settings for a variety of lighting conditions and manual and automatic options. You can take a short video on it too. It is, of course, compatible with computers. It takes solid memory cards, for which I use a Packard Bell card reader with the computer. The only shortcoming of this camera is that it is fairly heavy on batteries (four...

Toshiba Satellite Pro A60

Advantages: Sturdy design Nice Blue colour Get a lot for your money
Disadvantages: Overheating/crashing problems experienced Memory upgrade was necessary Required a lot of tweaking to get 'right'

...The Toshiba Satellite Pro A60 laptop is ideal for entry level home users, and possibly students who have some time on their hands to sort stuff out. I wouldn't say it was suitable for the lower end of the business market, as Toshiba seem to be targeting with this product. I could be wrong however, maybe I was just unlucky! I have had mine for 8 months now, after previous satellite old faithful, which I had owned for about 7 years, gave up the ghost in the middle of a project, and I needed a cheap laptop quickly. I was impressed by the blue design which veers away from the boring black/grey you're used to seeing on the budget end notebooks. For the budget it was a toss up between this or a Dell, and in the end I decided to go for the Tosh which wasn't the bottom end of the scale like the Dell was for the same money. Due to...

Perfectly competent corporate desktop

Advantages: Bread and butter, bog standard box, predictable and easy to deploy
Disadvantages: Not the lowest price for specification

...games will almost universally result in disappointment, but at least you have the option to put in an AGP card at a later stage (some of the hardware options allow for an ATI Radion card, or nVidia GeForce4 Ti 4200 128MB (VGA & TV & DVI-D) 4X AGP ) Build quality is a tad better than we have come to expect from IBM of late; practical, quite nicely engineered, but again, the description of 'adequate' springs to mind. They have obviously taken a leaf or two from the competition, virtually all of the internal components can be exchanged without having to revert to tools - the IBM standard has been retained, anything marked blue implies that it's for removing (In Compaq, it's green) Depending on the model you buy, it comes with Windows XP Professional, or Windows/2000 Where IBM scores is in the cost of 'total system ownership' - because...

Siemens A60 - My phone for 2 years...

Advantages: A well built, reliable, cheap phone with a reasonable set of features
Disadvantages: Quite an embarrassment to be seen with.

...I've had this phone for two years. It was my first phone, and apart from an old Nokia I use sometimes, it's my only phone. I'm obviously very happy with it. My parents bought me it as an entry level phone for about £50-£60.00 with Orange Pay as you go. Good points Sturdy phone. I've had it for two years and dropped it so many times. It's survived everything. It even survived a swim in the bath - it kept worryingly overheating for over a week afterwards, and I thought it would not last. It did though. Battery life remains excellent. Over 2 years since I got it, it's still on its original battery, and still holds a charge for about 3-4 days (with little use) or about 2 days of heavy use (I'm approximating!). Reception is great, the phone usually has full signal strength. On a trip to Wales where most other phones couldn...

IBM Quality @ IBM Price

Advantages: Good extra features. Can play CD's from keyboard
Disadvantages: Price?

...Now here’s an opinion that nearly didn’t get written, mainly because I’m too busy using the damned thing to write about it. I’m talking about my IBM Rapid Access Keyboard. I have been using this for about 18 months now, and if I remember correctly it cost me about £30 from PCW, the shop whose name I can’t bring myself to say in full! Since keyboards can be had for a fiver upwards, what’s so special about it? Well, nothing from the “Immense Bowel Movement”* is ever going to be cheap, but it does carry some extra features, which set it part from the “fiver jobs”. *Some “IBMers” have their own pet theories. “I Bin Moved” is one heartfelt cry, whilst German employees have been known to call it “Ich Bin Müde” – I am tired. Firstly...

375GBP Big Brand Budget Bargain

Advantages: IBM reputation, support, quality, Duron CPU, 200Mhz motherboard, 4X AGP slot, software package
Disadvantages: No matter how much you dislike to be seen in Comet, I think they are the only ones selling it. No paper manuals

...'IBM' and 'low price' have not really sat very happily in the same sentence and certainly not the three words 'IBM' 'low price' AND Comet - which is not known for low prices, and where I acquired mine. But Comet are (unusually) selling, as of writing, an IBM NetVista system for less than £500 with 15" monitor, and £375 without the monitor. I initially thought they had priced it wrong! Anyhow, I took the package without the monitor for a penny under £375, that's cheaper than many 'kit' computers and lesser brands. Exact IBM model number is a 2284-12g (the 12g signifies its the model without the 15" screen) HARDWARE: > The smart, (sexy) dark graphite corporate looking TOWER case houses a 600 Mhz AMD Duron processor which is highly rated in Ciao and in the PC press in general. Cutting the story short, it slaughters the Celeron which...

IBM POWER PROCSSOR BOARD.

Advantages: CONFIGURES IN TWO WAYS.
Disadvantages: MIGHT BE COSTLY TO SOME.

...Well this actually awakens your pc by increasing the processing speed of your PC. My previous processor, which is Intel, has actually gone old so I needed some up grade. In terms of recommendations, I will highly recommend this to the fullest because of its processing speed and efficiency. With the 2-way 1.65ghz processor with a 36mb l cache, the processor board is capable of processing perfectly and all right so this is a good alternative if you actually want to upgrade your PC. The cache memory has good memory capacity of 72mb L3 cache. The new processor on the p5-550 allows you to configure in both ways either a 2- way or 4 way system. With the new 1.65ghz processor, there are wide ranges of system storage offerings. As a pc gamer, the new IBM processor board has given me some special entertainment with my games by...

Review of Toshiba Eqium A60 Laptop

Advantages: * Fast and nippy, nice look and feel, good software package, excellent support from Toshiba!
Disadvantages: * The battery life is poor and the base of the laptop gets extremely hot!

...I enjoyed this phone as it works well and has lots of funcionality. My best phone yet! I have never used a phone which offered such a good price to features ration ever and I am glad thta I purchased this phone for the tiny price of £60, wh9ich in my mind was a complete bargain in reality to how much you could pay for a phone these days. In conclusion, an excellent phone with all of the features you would ever need, 1.3 megapixel camera, great TFT screen, excellent music and mp3 player, lous speakers, lots of cool 3d games to play on! If you want a cheap phone at a reasonable price, then go and get this phone, it will not let you down at all. Superb vaue phone!...
