IBM Thinkpad X30 Pentium 3 1.2 ghz USED.
Review of ThinkPad X30 2672 - PIII-M 1.2 GHz - 12.1" TFT by
safariman72
Advantages: Small, light and well spec'd
Disadvantages: Replacement parts prices.
...space free.
THE BATTERY
The battery holds a full charge and lasts for about 105 - 120 minutes depending on what you are doing. It probably needs a new one but they are £60 ish and it's just as easy to carry the power cable if we need to transport it anywhere.
INPUT AND OUTPUT
The mouse nipple is a bit awkward till you get used to it but after that it is quite accurate and you can do things quite quickly.
The keyboard is full sized, yet those with larger fingers or poor co-ordination may sometimes clip the key next to the one you want at the same time.
The speakers are fine for the task and even manage to play music. You must of course not expect the same standard as your home stereo.
The screen is nice and clear and just perfect for most things you want it to do.
EXTRAS
It has 2 PCMCIA slots, 2 x USB slots...

AMD 64 4200+ X2 AM2 (2.2GHz) processor!
Review of AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ / 2.2 GHz processor by
dwarven87
Advantages: Dual Core, Low power usage* and Fast!
Disadvantages: Motherboards can be costly for this!
...but pentiums can be twice the price for the same spec AMD!
In comparison to my old computer (old old p4 1.9Ghz with 1gb ram) this processor helps to wipe the floor with my old computer. The dual core feature means that in comparison i can listen to music, run an anti-virus scan, spyware and adware scan and play Hitman: Blood Money at the same time with very little noticeable shuddering or lag! Excellent. If my old computer attempted this bouts of freezing and poor gameplay would occur!
The startup speeds of the computer are very noticeable as it takes around 40secs to boot in total (after everything has loaded up) whereas my old computer would literally take atleast 4 minutes to boot everything up - no joke!
In comparison it is not the best for Gaming as some single core pentiums are but this is still damn good. Coupling this board with 1...

P4 3.2GHz CPU with 512Kb Cache! Expensive but fast
Review of Intel Pentium 4 3.2 GHz processor by
Deru
Advantages: FAST, Retail box comes with fan, sticker, manual
Disadvantages: More expensive than Celerons, AMDs, etc
...Okay, so I bought myself a motherboard (see Asus P4C800-E Deluxe review) to build a computer but it’s not a computer without the rest of the components. One of these other components I needed was the CPU. “HUH? A C-P-What?!!!”….Well since you ask, I will tell you. CPU is an acronym for Central Processing Unit (aka: Processor). This is the computer’s brain and it plays an important role in a computer. This is where all the information ‘processed’ and where all the calculations are done. Generally, the faster the CPU, the better the performance but there are other factors to take into consideration. It usually looks like a square metal thing, with gold pins underneath but Pentium 3’s have a single connector that slots into a slot rather than use pins.
The CPU I am reviewing is Intel’s Pentium 4 (P4 for short) 3.2GHz CPU. This one has...

And so the honeymoon ends
Review of Apple iBook G4 - PPC G4 1 GHz - 14.1" TFT by
mystikchick17
Advantages: Fast, sexy, easy to use, capabilities, weight, size, I could go on and on!
Disadvantages: See update for details
...)
Speed: 1.2 gHz speed processor
operating system: Mac OSX 10.3.3
model: iBook G4
AirPort Extreme wireless networking pre-installed
Cable and Modem connections
2 built in speakers
Software:
---------------
My laptop came pre-installed with iMovie, iChat, iDVD, iCal, Appleworks, iTunes, Safari, and iPhoto. I had to pay extra for the Microsoft Office Suite for Mac, which includes Powerpoint, Word, Messenger, and some mail program I chose not to install.
A quick overview of each of the pre-installed programs:
iMovie: The software that, I believe, allows you to edit and view your digital movie clips on the computer.
iChat: The funky Mac messenging service that works in tandem with AOL's instant messenger. If you have iSight, this is what you connect to your friends over for video/audio chats. The layout of the chat...

Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 / 2.33 GHz processor
Review of Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 / 2.33 GHz processor by
mop591
Advantages: Very fast, cheap
Disadvantages: need to have IT expereince
...This intel dual core processor with 2.33Ghz speed (total speed of 4.6Ghz) with a 4MB Cache can handle an awful lot of demanding programs runnning at once, obviously it has its limits, but for the price its a very good processor. This processor is also compatable with 64 bit computing.
It has an LGA775 Socket which is compatable with most of the new motherboards if you are looking to upgrade or build your own pc. If you are looking to buy a processor i would highly recommend this one or several similar ones, but you need to have IT experience and know what you are doing before paying out for one of these. It comes with a 3 year limited warrenty so it is really set to last....

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 / 2.4 GHz processor
Review of Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 / 2.4 GHz processor by
mash123
Advantages: handle multiple tasks at same time and doesnt slow pc.
Disadvantages: potentially waste of money
...the latest processor from intel, the new intel core 2 quad is the most powerful processor available for the average home pc. The 2.4GHz processor is more than enough for everyday tasks on your pc. This is perfect if you do hardcore gaming, video editing etc or both! The four cores allow you to simultaneously do alot of tasks on the pc and it will not slow down your pc. As more and more software for pc's need a lot of processing power, this processor is the most up to date and the most powerful as yet. The downside to getting this would be that as computing power of computers are increasing faster and faster with respect to time, the quad core processor will no doubt be yesterdays news within a few months as intel have plans to release an octa-core processor which will then outdate this one....

Pentium 4 steams in
Review of Intel Pentium 4 2 GHz processor by
rambo
Advantages: Much faster clock speeds, good for games and multimedia applications
Disadvantages: A bit expensive, tricky to upgrage from an existing Pentium chip
...Intel made the first ever showing of the Pentium 4 chip at the Comdex trade show in Las Vegas last Christmas. Pentium 4 based systems currently run at 1.4 and 1.5GHz, they are now appearing in brand names like Dell, Gateway and IBM.
This was a key release for Intel as they were facing though competition from their competitors especially AMD. Presently, the AMD Athlon processor costs half the price of a Pentium 3 and performs better in almost every area.
Rumours have it that the first Pentium 4 chips are not as fast as the current 1GHz Athlon, and are slower than the 1.2GHz Athlon system with DDR memory.
However, the 1.5GHz Pentium 4 chip is excellent for playing games and multimedia devices.
PC manufactures have complained about the high costs involved in making a Pentium 4 chip. They may have a point but whenever...

375GBP Big Brand Budget Bargain
Review of IBM NetVista A40i 2284 - Duron 600 MHz by
opinion-maker
Advantages: IBM reputation, support, quality, Duron CPU, 200Mhz motherboard, 4X AGP slot, software package
Disadvantages: No matter how much you dislike to be seen in Comet, I think they are the only ones selling it. No paper manuals
...to my older Celeron 366Mhz on a 66Mhz motherboard, UDMA 33 with PC 66Mhz RAM. I sloted in an extra 128Mb of RAM and it felt even faster. I'd say put in more RAM if you a bit more punch, - as I suspect Windows ME's overhead is quite great compared to 98.
UPGRADE: >
I also put in a 46 Gb IBM UDMA 100 7200 rpm hard disk (although the controller only goes to UDMA66) which also speeds things up over the original 5600 RPM hard disk. My total extra expenditure on RAM and HD was £40 + £129 = £169 bringing my total cost to £544 total. So now I have 192Mb RAM and 56Mb of hard disk, with additional scope later to add a real powerful 4X AGP graphics card (which you cannot do with integrated on board video. The motherboard can supposedly support Duron CPU's up to 1 Gig, so when the time comes for another speed boast, there is provision to slot...

IBM Quality @ IBM Price
Review of IBM Rapid Access II - keyboard by
BNibbles
Advantages: Good extra features. Can play CD's from keyboard
Disadvantages: Price?
.... This is to put your PC to “sleep” if it’s so configured. Also on top, there’s a blue “Help” button, which apes the F1 function, which must lie at least a foot away on the left!
Down the right-hand side is a row of 4 short-cut buttons, which can be pre-programmed to load software of your choice. IBM have printed an insert for you, on the assumption that word-processor, spreadsheet and internet access are going to be the big three, within one other blank, which I have taken to be my Quicken banking software. Notwithstanding IBM’s printed label, there is nothing to stop you programming all four yourself.
The software to configure your board comes on CD-ROM and is easy to install. It adds another icon within Control Panel, which I feel is the best place for it.
Now comes the “pièce de résistance...

Excellent value for money
Review of Intel Pentium 4 530J / 3 GHz processor by
MadMike542
Advantages: Very high speed
Disadvantages: Not the fastest on the market, fan is noisy
...I purchased this CPU during a mass upgrade for my PC a couple of years ago when it was in dire need of speeding up. My old processor was an AMD Athlon which ran at a tiny 1.2GHz and wasn't capable of running the latest games, applications etc at any one time.
At the time I was on a strict budget since I needed to buy a new mother board, power supply, graphics card and processor so I had to hunt around for the best deals going on at the time. The Intel P4 3.0GHz Socket 775 CPU with Hyper-Threading technology was the best deal I could find on the web at the time, and boy does this processor deliver compared to my old one. With just a processor upgrade alone my system speed was dramatically increased and is now capable of running all the latest games, applications etc with no problem whatsoever. I also see this processor being what I...
