Lenova ThinkPad R61i 7650 Review

Advantages: Easy to use, runs smoothly, good battery life and high quality.
Disadvantages: Some probelms with the wireless adapter.

...I have owned several different ThinkPad's over the years. I have enjoyed them all and found them to be extremely useful and reliable. I knew that I wanted a decent quality portable laptop that would be suitable for all the basics. I have been using the laptop mainly for office related items such as documents and spreadsheets but have also been using it to store and edit photographs and videos. So far I have had no problems and that fact that it comes with a media card reader was very useful. This version of the ThinkPad is pretty similar to the rest of the laptops in the series. There is little to no distortion with the screen and it is fairly bright and gives a high quality picture. I couldn't find any problems with the laptop as a whole, nothing is loose or flex's for the most part. The R61 has pretty much all the ports...

Review of Lenovo ThinkPad R61i

Lenovo R61I is amazing!

Advantages: This comes with bluetooth, 1GB per sec. wifi card, and cd dvd r&rw drive.
Disadvantages: The power management center goofs up some, The internal coolant system could use work.

...I used to have tons of problems with computers, big surprise! I have tried all of the major brands like Compaq, Acer, Dell, E-Machine, HP, etc. These have all been desktops. After shopping around I found the best deal I could possibly find. The Lenovo R61I, It had all the features I could think of that I would ever need with a price I could afford! My only concern was the performance that it could have. I figured with all the features there had to be some draw back. I powered up the display and begun running random applications individually and several at a time. There was a split second lag however nothing to be worried about. I have had a few problems with this but all of my problems I had with this machine equal up to less than 1% of the problems I had with my other computers. In the rare event that you do have a problem you can just...

Good performance, Pig awful looks!!

Advantages: Fast and reliable
Disadvantages: Screen could be better, not the best design

...I have had my laptop now for just over a month and I am now ready to report on my findings. I will say at the start that this was supplied to me from my insurance company, rather than by choice. I was assured that it was a like for like replacement for my Toshiba. (evidently in the world of insurance Toshiba and Lenovo are spelt the same?). Needless to say the chances of me renewing my policy with them are somewhere between sweet FA and Nil. However rant and rage over with here are my opinions and observations of the R61 thinkpad. FIRST IMPRESSIONS ------------------------------- When I first opened the box, my first impression was "Oh my god!, it's come from the Lada car factory. The design has all the finesse of a 1980's house brick mobile phone. Although I had seen the Lenovo name around, I had not linked it to the IBM brand...

Casio QV R61

Advantages: Good quality, good zoom, SD card slot
Disadvantages: battery life pretty poor, no case

...Casio QV R61 Info I purchased this camera at Christmas 2006, it cost me £150. This is an excellent camera with 6.0 mega pixels. The picture quality is amazing although when you transfer the image from your camera to your computer the images are quite big in size, although the bigger the size the better quality it should be. Casio Casio is a well known brand, Casio has made many cameras although I think that this one has topped them all. There are many different makes of camera which claim to be good quality and good zooms etc, but unlike many other cameras this one does give maximum performance and great picture quality. Cost This camera only cost me £150 at Christmas 2006. Before this camera was £230 and now it is probably even cheaper now. What ever you pay for this camera make sure you don?t pay more than I did as...

Think Thinkpad

Advantages: Speedy, Robust, Good graphics card, Connectivity
Disadvantages: Not the prettiest of designs, Annoying keyboard layout w/ no Windows key and Fn/Ctrl key placement

...INTRODUCTION I bought myself a used IBM / Lenovo Thinkpad T41 for £129 and although it's a pretty old machine (probably from 2004) and fairly low spec by today's standards, I still feel it was a bargain. This was from Cash Converters. DESIGN The machine, like all IBM (now made by Lenovo) notebooks are intended for business users and so the design is not particularly sleek but instead, have a very 'professional' look to them. They all seem to be black with a little bit of red on the button and either a red or blue knob for controlling the mouse pointer. Some people think they're on the ugly side but I actually quite like the look of the Thinkpads. I've noticed that all IBM / Lenovo Thinkpads look alike and have the same body, keyboard and use the same smooth black matte material rather than plastic that most other...

Prehistoric laptop

Advantages: Sturdy
Disadvantages: Looks very backdated, slow and Very Heavy

...This laptop is a dinosaur, and I don?t mean T-Rex dinosaur I mean Brontosaurus as it big, heavy, and slow and deserves to be extinct. This laptop looks and feels as though it should be in a museum. It looks like it was designed in the 1980s and feels awful to use. It is about the same weight as a brick if not heavier. There is one advantage and that is it looks very robust. It looks like it would survive being dropped from the top of a building, which would probably speed it a bit (I haven't tried this and I don't urge you to try this either). I have not used these laptops for long but I am guessing, from using previous IBM think pads (as that?s what they are but under a different name), that they will last for a very long time. The version I have used is single core processor so that might be why it is slow but i have just...

is this a stinkpad or a good laptop?

Advantages: Battery life, Wide screen
Disadvantages: To heavy, really difficult to build from scratch.

...lighter for carrying around Conclusions This is a good laptop for a work environment. However I feel that for a home situation you can get better from other suppliers. The machine battery life is a a very good selling point and the wide screen makes looking at a machine to do your work a little bit easier. However the weight of this laptop spoils the machine to me. Also from my IT support perspective Trying to build a machine is a lot harder then other models of machine. Overall, I would probably avoid this model of machine. Simply because I know that a newer model of IBM laptops is available (R400) which is far lighter and does not seem to give the DVD drive problems. Thanks for reading...

IBM ThinkPad X41

Advantages: Extreme performace and user experience
Disadvantages: 128 mb graphics memory low performance

...IBM Thinkpad x41 with the Ultrabase is the best and most powerful laptop of its kind. 1.3 kg and with the 8 cell battery up to 6 hours operating time, it is mostly suited for travelers and collage students Instead of the standard 512 mb of RAM, ive got the 1.5 GB installed, so it is faster and has better performance. It has the touchpoint interface, which is the second best after the mouse because it is more precise than the touchPad. The ThinkLight HDD protection is useful when you are traveling by bus or train because it suits itself to repeated bumps and allows the HDD run even with heavy vibration. As suited to IBMs, there is a little light in the edge of the monitor, which is very good in the dark. Especially I like the location of the processor cooling vent, which is on the side and keeps the processor cool even...

Review of Lenovo ThinkPad X41

cant fault it

Advantages: great technology and support
Disadvantages: none

...I love IBM and Lenovo. I think they build the best computers in the world (pc based, I have no intention of getting into the PC/Mac debate right now) Built around the powerful Intel Centrino Duo this laptop is fantastic value for money. You can get it for between £300-£400 on the web. Having had an earlier model for several years with no issues whatsoever, I was very sad when it died due to an unfortunate incident with a pint of water. I was going to get the same machine again but decided to go for this one instead. As with all the Thinkpad range it is built to last. although some people have issues with the blocky design I think that this is one of the best features, Lenovo/IBM make no attempt at (for want of a better word) tarting it up, why should they. the solid design and construction makes this a very strong, long lasting...

The IBM ThinkPad 240 - A sub-£200 gem?

Advantages: Small size, Lights, Looks smart!
Disadvantages: Some say it looks bland, Small size limits functionality

...Watching the ICT market depresses me. Only a couple of short years ago I invested in the biggest desktop hard disk drive I could ever find - A roomy 120GB Seagate. Now we are up to 750GB, yet these cost only half of what I paid for my drive. The same is the story with the ThinkPad 240 - I remember when these were £1,699 brand new. Luckily I never bought one new, but I did receive one second hand a few months ago. This is probably my first review where I have a few serious issues with a product, as the 240 did leave a lot to be desired. But let's start with what's good. The first thing that will attract a lot of potential buyers to this laptop is it's diminutive size. It truly is amazing how IBM have managed to squeeze a full laptop into such a small case. The screen has a resolution of 800x600 pixels, which is enough for office...
