Advantages: Easy to maintain, cheap, good support, well featured, stable, user friendly, good battery life it works!
Disadvantages: Already replaced, quite heavy despite size, not as flexible or as well supported as a PC, not that expandable

Apple PowerBook G4 12.1" TFT

Advantages: very functional and portable, fantastically made and stylish
Disadvantages: gets hot with long intensive sessions of work

...I have had my 12 inch powerbook G4 for about 5 months now and it is FANTASTIC. it is very attractive looking and is the best made laptop ive ever owned. It is very small and very portable, it is flawlessly engineered with a silver aluminum body and as such is very robust and very light. i bought off ebay and it came with the latest version of the mac operating system, and an upgraded 1.3 GhZ processor. It is very fast and does everything i want it to do. the screen is fantastic and crystal clear, great for watching dvd's and films on aswell as working and surfing the web. Not that many games are made for the Apples, but, If you want to play games, buy a games console, and if you want to design artwork, produce music or have a stylish looking piece of technology thats portable, no too big, not too small, buy an Apple iBook. I Bought my iBook off of ebay, it was only a year old and i manged to buy it for just 350 pounds! Only because the bloke miss spelt the name!!?? But generally decent iBooks are going for about 400 - 500 Pounds second hand, and they are only mainly going to be used by students, or professional people, so no kids have mucked around and damaged them. Make sure that the new looking ones arent actually still on the G3 Processor, old hat. and you need a biggish hard drive to hold all your extra programmes. 30GB minimum. ...i received my iBook for christmas 2001 and it is still the main computer is use. it is the first mac i have owned. the laptop is sturdy, durable and well made. i have had no issues with it in the almost 2 years i have had it. this compares well to the 6 month old IBM laptop my partner has, which has been on for repairs 3 times already :) as i have never had any problems with my lappy, i cant really coment on manufacturer support. i will say, however, that in general, the people who work in mac shops are very helpful with suggestions on how to improve or change things. there is also a large mac community on the net. the instruction manual is in 2 parts, an illustrated troubleshooting guide (good for non nerds like me) and a text manual (which ive never looked at). it also comes with 2 apple stickers :) the speed of my iBook is...

Should you jump straight to buy the iBook?

...and make sure that you are happy with the speed. But if you can afford it, topping up the memory will make you even happier! The other thing that is very disturbing is the audio level. In small room that is occupied by maybe 1-2 people, the audio level is very audible. However, when used outdoors at public areas, the maximum volume does not seem to make music sound like music. In summary, who do I think should buy the iBook? Well people like me of course! Students who are looking for a good deal and love to explore the Unix and Mac side of things will best benefit from this notebook. However, other users such as casual users are will also appreciate this laptop but may find it a little difficult to learn if totally computer illiterate. Finally, if you are very into performance, speed, and raw power, consider the Powerbook instead....
