Advantages: Lovely maps and Intuitive
Disadvantages: 4-digit Postcodes and POI alerts are just not good enough

...The iCN 520 is a fairly intuitive SatNav and for the feint of heart there is a built-in tutorial covering all the salient points of the unit accessed from the Home menu. This allows you to get on working with it right out of the box and glance at the tutorial only if you get stuck avoiding the need to refer to the helpful and extensive user guide. The rechargeable battery is only needed when you walk from your house to the car and back as it is supplied with both a home charger and cigar-lighter car charger. A package of maps worth having

...Having used a Tom Tom Go 700 for a number of years, I decided to update the maps of Western Europe. Tom Tom uses software called Tom Tom Home which is used to download the updated maps. Having connected Tom Tom Go 700 to my PC, via a USB cable, it was a simple matter of clicling on the relevant icon on the Home Software, paying for the maps, and downloading them over the internet. Payment was straight forward. It is undertaken electronically either by credit or debit card, and the down load commenced. Because of the size of the map file, it took a little time to download (I do have broadband running at 8mb band width, so I suppose a lesser bandwith will take longer. Use of the system is simplicity itself. You are given a choice of country, and then you select address, or point of interest....

Advantages: McRaes usual thought-provoking lyrics

...All Maps Welcome is the third album from Tom McRae, after his self-titled album, Tom McRe, and then Just Like Blood. I first heard this album when I was given a free taster to it, which played about 30 seconds of each song; this then led me to buy the full album. I was already a fan, and was looking forward to seeing him when he toured last year. His dark lyrics and melancholy melodies really blew me away, and I wanted to hear more. In this album, he uses assistance from members of Beck?s backing band. It took only three weeks to record, and the album itself deals with the break up of a long term relationship. His lyrics are just as deep as in other albums, but with hints of self-pity never seen before. ...the maps of 16 European countries included on CD and a remote control for ease of use. I have not tried the remote control yet but will probably buy one soon. The main players in the portable arena seem to be Navman, Garmin and Tom Tom, although I also considered Mio. Tom Tom started life as a handheld software navigation provider which later expanded to produce stand alone units called Go. A good concept that was updated recently to include some nice features like bluetooth handsfree compatibility with your mobile phone and full 7 character postcode searches. Main downside - the size. Not pocket sized so hard to carry around. Certainly more features than the Navman but also pricier. Garmin have been in the navigation game for many years with a great many specialised units for walkers, boats, planes, cars etc. Garmin have some new units...

TOMTOM UK MAPS Re-written . .

Advantages: Easy to keep with TOMTOM at all times.
Disadvantages: Easy to lose if not in safe stowage.

These maps are very easy to load into the Tomtom, (they load in a few moments) easy to use, show just about everything you need to navigate with ease There are some very easy to see graphics, and the colours are just about right for all light conditions. The display is very clear, and unaffected by sunlight. It is easy to see in all conditions. The price does appear a little on the high side at the moment, however, I suspect it will drop as soon as it starts selling like "hot cakes" as I am sure it will do very soon. The only fault I can think of, is the ease of losing it, due to the size, however, I find that used film containers are perfect for things like this. The blank cards are cheap enough to buy...
