Microsoft FrontPage 2003

Advantages: Much better HTML, CSS & scripting support, easy to use
Disadvantages: some features rely on Sharepoint Services which most people won't have.

Those that enjoyed its simple WYSIWYG approach felt let down by its lack of support for newer web technologies whilst HTML gurus sneered at its poor HTML generation and dependence on proprietary extensions on the server to achieve anything useful. With the 2003 release Microsoft have tried very hard to please everyone and managed to achieve great strides although it is still far from perfect. In terms of support, things are now much more impressive. There is support for XML, XSLT, CSS, Jscript, Javascript, VBScript and ASP.NET. Where it still lacks is mainly PHP and common non Microsoft databases such as MySQL The support extends to IntelliSense and AutoComplete as well as easy access to any code snippets you may have in your library. Norton Antivirus 2003

Advantages: Runs rather nice in the background
Disadvantages: none

Luckily we have a split disc, so he was able to transfer some goods that were not affected and he said the only thing that we could try was the Norton AntiVirus 2003. Now we had just popped into PC World and saw this for £70 and I thought I am gambling everything. Anyway, he sells the original discs for £20 but they have no boxes or books but have all the relevant licenseware. However the mortgage had just been paid and the bank was nearly empty so I told him to try and sort it and I would pick it up in two days. Norton Antivirus does normally come in a yellow and white box with an installation guide. The disc is really easy to install the programme, throw it in the cd drive and follow every step of the way, you cannot go wrong. Once installed it tried to scan my whole computer but...

...a much more logical manner which are easily accessible.Also recently I discovered OSX comes with a game of chess which I have to say is very addictive. When I first saw OS X I was like O' my god this is completely different - but it only took me a few days before I got the hang of it and could then see all the positive things about it. You then have to choose between a full backup or an incremental one where only new and changed files are backed up. Ulead VideoStudio 8 Complete Package

Advantages: Ease of use, SmartSound, improved audio and titling
Disadvantages: No background rendering, some new features a bit fiddly.

...and convert them to a different format in one hit. Nice to see is the support for MPEG4 (DIVX) and AC3 Dolby Digital audio as well as 16:9 footage. Note though that the first two options require plug-ins at additional cost (£13.78 each). Ulead have done their best to ensure you have as much at your disposal as possible when it comes to creating your video masterpieces. One things still sorely lacking though is background rendering. Until you prepare your final output either to tape or DVD/CD, no rendering is done. Pinnacle's Studio 9 does this in the background as you work and it's a great time saver when filters and effects have been used.
