My First Bed
Advantages: Perefct height for a toddler
Disadvantages: it's not big enough if you have to lie beside them!
...When our daughter was 18 months she was a very active child in her sleep. Her cot was no longer big enough for her to comfortably move around in the cot!
We had seen a small bed in IKEA which was a toddler bed which could extend with the child! It also on one side had a rail which would prevent them falling out!
The bed at the time cost £65 for the base and the mattress was £45. But now I believe they sell it as a combined package for about £105!
The Bed came as a flat pack which my hubby found easy to make and put together! He put the frame together in about 20 minutes and the slates took about 10 mins and another 5 minutes to screw onto the bed to hold them securely! The instructions were easy to follow and all screws and keys were there to help you along the way!
The bed was up and was light to move into the position...

IKEA
Advantages: Stylish products at great prices
Disadvantages: No home delivery as such
...IKEA (a Swedish flat-pack furniture & home furnishings store) has now become a household name here in the UK. There aren't many stores dotted across the UK, but most of us are within driving distance of one, & they are huge stores which also include a restaurant & childrens play area, so are worthy of a day trip - there's plenty to keep the whole family occupied. If you are taking little ones, they will generally be quite happy with the trip round the store - everything is so beautifully laid out & the kids section is such a fun & vibrant area that they won't feel like they're actually being dragged round the shops.
It does get busy, & even though there is a large car park, parking spaces can be difficult to find. I always try to avoid weekends & school holiday periods.
The goods themselves are on the whole contemporary in style...

great little bed for small spaces
Advantages: extendable, fits in small rooms, makes a nice transition from cot to bed
Disadvantages: need to purchase special mattress, not suitable for adults, not great quality
...gets bigger, you can let down either or both of the headrests and make the bed bigger. We haven't actually done this yet but you will require some DIY skills and tools to do this - its not automatic. The maximum length is 206cm which is about the same length as a single bed. The mattress is very comfortable but bear in mind that it is not waterproof and you will need to purchase a waterproof sheet seperately to protect it. One of the problems we came across was the slats. I knelt awkwardly on the bed with one knee and actually managed to break one slat in half. We returned just the slats to Ikea and they were happy to replace them with new ones. We came to the conclusion that there was a knot in the wood which was weak and my weight caused it to break. Now I'm really careful how I kneel on the bed and we haven't had any more problems...

Ikea is meatballtastic
Advantages: Good variety of items, good shopping experience
Disadvantages: Can be busy
...I had never visited an Ikea until recently, mainly because I have never lived near one. I now live just up the road from the one on Wembley and so decided to take a visit. Ikea is a Swedish store that basically sells everything for the home from furniture to decoration. It is a huge store and is really obvious from the moment you see it due to its blue and yellow colouring on the building, which of course is copying the Swedish flag.
Ikea is meant to be an easy one-stop shop to get all your furniture and items for the home in one go at a good price. People travel from all over the country to visit these stores especially as they are few and far between. At the moment there are 17 locations in Great Britain with two new ones being built at the moment in Southampton and Dublin.
The one I visited in Wembley was easy to get to from...

The IKEA Virus
Advantages: Cheap, modern furniture
Disadvantages: Bland, tiring, overcrowded, products often unavailable
...It?s taking over. No home is safe. If you haven?t already got an item of furniture from IKEA, you will soon. It?s a virus and you are particularly vulnerable on bank holiday weekends, like this one!
I joke, but is there no street in the UK where IKEA hasn?t taken hold? I myself have succumbed to this virulent form of décor. But if you haven?t already, I?ve drawn up a list of pros and cons to help you decide if you want to welcome the virus into your life or whether you want to batten down the hatches and resist.
WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO SUCCUMB TO THE IKEA VIRUS?
(1) CHEAP
IKEA is cheap and cheerful, when you compare it to other equivalent furniture stores. The reason it is so cheap is because it specialises in flat-packed furniture that you assemble yourself. This means that the store doesn?t need to pay for anyone to...

Ikea Southampton Store
Advantages: Cheap Swedish Furnature and Good Quality
Disadvantages: Busy
...Cutlery to Flowers, Ikea does have everything. They sell : Candles, Pet supplies (beds, collers), Pots and Pans, Cutlery, Dinner ware, Curtains(cant remember everything, lol). You can choose anything and everything that you want on this level to decorate your home.
The 3rd level is where all the Flat Pack items are, this would be Tables, Chairs, Sofa's, Beds, etc etc. This is where you would find all your items your after in the Isles that were written down when found the items in the showroom, hence why they have the paper and pencils to write the info down on.
Then proceed to the tills where there is regular checkouts with a staff member serving or there is the self serve tills where you serve yourself.
After the Tills there is the Swedish Markt which sells all Swedish food and a fast food place which sells hot dogs for 45p or 55p...

IKEA & FAMILY = IKEA FAMILY
Advantages: More you visit more you get
Disadvantages: more you visit, more you spend
.... Most of the names are Swedish, Danish, Finnish or Norwegian in origin.
* Upholstered furniture, coffee tables, rattan furniture, bookshelves, media storage, doorknobs: Swedish place names (When I was younger I had couple Lack triangle side tables, and they are still one of my favourites, nice for children's room.)
* Beds, wardrobes, hall furniture: Norwegian place names
(I have never own IKEA bed, but they have very nice looking beds like Noresund and Hensvik for children. I love Hopen wardrobes, and I hope some day I can have huge ROOM fitted with Hopen's.)
* Dining tables and chairs: Finnish place names (here we go, due this spring we are moving and need new dinner table and chairs, so I have keep my eyes open, so Forsa is one of I mite go on.)
* Bookcase ranges: Occupations (I just found Billy storage system, where you can...

IKEA - WORLD OF THE SWEDISH FLAT PACK
Advantages: Good value, individual design, creche
Disadvantages: Queues, credit card charge, can't reserve stock
....
TULLSTA Armchair (solid beech legs) £69
FORSBY Dining Table (solid pine) £155
EKTORP 3 Seater Sofa £290
The IKEA ground floor also holds a huge shop, selling what you might call accessories. Every piece of kitchen equipment you can think of' plus rugs, lighting, mirrors candles, bathroom nicknaks, plants, vases, bedding - absolutely everything!
Single Quilt Cover Set £3.90
Doormat 100% Coir £4.50
Bread Baskets £2
Kettle (whistles) £3.90
I love shopping at IKEA, but my one dread at each visit is the checkout queues. These seem to stretch for miles and at weekends can have you waiting half and hour or more. A bit of a blip really when you consider that the whole shop is supposed to have been designed to try and speed customers through.

The Ikea Experience
Advantages: it's cheap - dare I say, it's fun?
Disadvantages: the crowds and therefore the queues.
..., lighting, home organization. Most of the areas have room sets, to illustrate how the furniture, etc, could look. Ikea are happy for you to sit on all the chairs and bounce on all the beds, should you wish too!
Dotted around the store are blue information points where you can find staff if you need to ask a question. Here you can take advantage of their kitchen and office planning service (if you haven't already done it on line), or arrange for your kitchen to be installed (at extra cost). When we bought fitted wardrobes, they showed us a plan of each piece on the computer and made suggestions as to which shelves, baskets etc we might want inside. They also made sure we got all the pieces we needed, as the wardrobes didn't come as a complete unit, you had to order the sides and the doors as separate items.

You can't go wrong with Ikea!
Advantages: Innovative, fresh designs and amazing prices
Disadvantages: There's not a store that near to us, but that's probably good because I'd be there every day!
...Ikea is a Swedish homeware store which has taken the United Kingdom by storm in the last 15 years or so. Many people were a bit skeptical and weren't keen on it before, automatically assuming that the 'too good to be true' price tags meant cheap quality. But after a while, most people decided that they actually quite liked it and that there was unbelievably no catch. One of these being my Dad, who can be very skeptical at the best of times. He now loves it and because our nearest store is about an hour away, he really looks forward to going there and getting some bargains 2 or 3 times a year. They sell everything from kitchens (including all the utensils and cutlery you could ever imagine) to reclining beds.
You can order stuff online at ikea.com or from the catalogue, but you can also buy stuff in store. I wasn't sure if I liked...
