Ilford Delta 400

...If you look at many street photographers portfolios and examine their tools, the vast majority will list Ilford delta 400 as one of their film choices. This is a great fast film which behaves very well in both low light and bright conditions. This is a black and white film and is great if you develop your own film. Its also a good film to send to the processors but beware it will be more expensive than the normal colour film process as this cant simply be thrown through a machine. I developed my own film in the darkroom using delta 400, it is a pretty fast film to develop, and using Ilfasol (ilfords developers) I got some great results. I compared them to pictures I had taken with my Film SLR and the black and white film was much more forgiving, I retained more detail in the dark and bright areas than I did with my digital image...

Review of Ilford Delta 400

Lack of thrills in Ilford makes me ill-ford.

Advantages: Close to the station, helpful staff
Disadvantages: Stupid hotel design, rough area, local eateries are awful

...For the final leg of our 3 hotel stay in London (the first two legs are documented on here too), my lovely American colleague and I went to the Ilford Travelodge in East London. The reason we did 3 hotels in 7 days was so we could pay £19 a night, every night, and we couldn't find one hotel that offered that price for 7 consecutive nights. I'm a regular user of Travelodge hotels and I like to think I know a fair bit about hotel standards, having been a housekeeper for 2 years. Travelodge is an openly no-frills hotel chain. They widely promote the fact that they don't provide things such as toiletries, hairdryers and the like because people don't usually need them, and it means they can keep costs down. So what you get for your money is a very basic, but very clean and modern hotel room for a low price. I think this is the ideal...

Review of Travelodge London, Ilford

Tried tested and true

Advantages: easy to process, good exposure lattitude
Disadvantages: none really

...Ilford FP4+ is a very high-quality product usable for many uses in black and white photography. It's normal rated speed is 125 ASA, but this film tolerates push and pull to 50 ASA and 200 ASA. FP4 was my first introduction to black and white, and to date, a large quantity of my best pictures were taken on FP4 film, either at it's standard 125 rating, or downrated to 50. The film is a nice flexible film, that tolerates a lot of different exposure conditions and, more importantly, development in a wide range of chemistry. I've developed it in Agfa's classic Rodinal chemistry to good results, Kodak's very handy T-Max 1+4 chemistry, of which this film produces excellent results. The detail in this film provides an exciting look to your pictures - unlike a number of Ilfords other films (HP5, cough, cough...), and in many peoples...

Best black and white film stock - ever

Advantages: Best film stock ever

...FP4 has been around for donkeys years, nearly 35 to be exact? the fact that it?s lasted as a film specification for so long is testimony to the original format. For most people of my generation (I?ll be 45 next birthday) Black and white was the only option if meagre pocket money was the only means of funding a hobby in photography, and Ilford were very much the brand leader in my neck of the woods. Nowadays, when ?analogue? photography has well and truly been eclipsed by ?digital? it takes a very strong product to maintain a foothold in this highly competitive market driven commodity. FP4 simply ?ticks all the boxes?. At 125ASA, it was originally considered a ?medium speed? general purpose stock, nowadays that tends to be a bit on the slow side, but if, like me, you like to use classic cameras, such as Olympus OM series...

THE GREAT SPOON OF ILFORD

Advantages: nice atmosphere
Disadvantages: lots of other pubs so lots of competition for this pub

...This pub is the best pub in ilford! it has so much too offer,it is nnear two graet clubs and one graet great bar. it has some great games machines including the hangman game, who wants to be a millionaire? the pub is so full of tradition and full of local hisory! the pub has no historyof violence and is home to some of the friendliest barmaids and bar staff! the food is wonderful, and my complimants to the chef! the care taken in evry dish is extraordinary! the town of ilford has a low crime rate and always welcomes visitors! their are also a number of hotels waiting to welcome you! please do come and honour us with your presence!...

...I would have been VERY dissapointed had I paid the full price of £60. ...Ilford FP4 Plus is the current version of a film that has been on the market since around 1970. It’s evolved, and it remains the standard by which all other medium-speed black-and-white emulsions are judged. There are now films that are sharper, or have less grain, or better tonality. What none of them do is combine excellence in all areas in the way FP4 does. FP4 is tolerant of most standard developers, and makes the most of its sharpness with a noticeable emphasising of borders. The acutance effect means that FP4 looks sharper than new-technology films that actually show more detail – and photography is very much about the look of things. Members honest opinion

Advantages: Price-value for money!
Disadvantages: No swimming pool

...As a member I can say that Fitness First gives you the framework for an excellent workout. The machines are good, with plenty to go around, and there are a vast number of classes from dance to yoga. The downside? Where do I start! The administration at Ilford has been apalling. They take out to much money from your direct debit or not enough, ocassionally not at all. They then have the audacity to write letter upon letter without checking their mistakes first. The staff are rude, and I sometimes wonder if with so much unemployment they couldnt have got better staff. A brain cell between two staff members isn't to much to ask for is it. The beautician is a dream though! This is my personal experience of Fitness First at Ilford, if I were able to use the facilities without dealing with the staff this place would be ab fab....

Extend your way of seeing

Advantages: Fantastic quality

...Ilford continue their range of high-quality 'professional' black and white films with their range of Delta 100 film. I have used Delta 100 for many high-quality images, and it is an absolutely brilliant film - it serves purposes like landscapes and portraiture with a distinct style and grace. It is a flexible film in that way - it can be pushed and pulled, and it develops well in T-Max developer (1+4), taking around seven minutes to develop at an exposure of 100. I am almost tempted to make Delta 100 part of my usual repertoire - I have only used a moderate amount of it, in both 135 and 120 formats, and the results have, for the most part, been good. It is another solid product from Ilford, and I'd reccomend it strongly - it picks up the level of detail I require perfectly, and it's response to light is better than expected for film...

Advantages: Ideal bog standard fast black and white film
