Leonard's Our Man

Advantages: Great songs, production, lyrics
Disadvantages: If you don't like Leonard's voice this won't convert you

...We've seen so many times that artists and songwriters who have great success throughout the 60's and the 70's often have a horrendous 80's as they try to keep up with the times. The songwriting becomes bland and the need for synthesisers means that the songs become so electronically ladened that the production becomes the focus over the songs themselves. It fills me with great pleasure to say that in the case of Leonard Cohen and 'I'm Your Man' this is most certainly not the case. It could be argued that prior to this Len was having a creative crisis. The mid 70's and early 80's were just about fair to him but albums were patchy compared to his 60's output and by his own high standards. For Your Boredom

Advantages: He is a good singer
Disadvantages: He did not live up to his expectations and it was a terrible debut album

...for this particular song. With brilliant guitar riffs, amazing vocals this song should have worked, however I really can?t see myself connecting with the song. Adam uses his falsetto too much and it seems way out of place. I know it?s his signature but it doesn?t work within this song. It could become a grower song, but at the moment I?m not too sure. Rating: 4/10 Track 2: For Your Entertainment I never thought I?d say this, but Adam?s vocals are drowned out within the whole song, Adam has one of the most powerful voices that I have ever heard and for some reason; he has allowed his producers to make him create a dance track. Adam what the hell are you thinking? This track has no Queen inspiration behind it, I can?t see myself dancing to it at all on the dance floor, and it?s just not a very good song at all. He's MY Man!!!

Advantages: I've run out of superlatives
Disadvantages: None, nyet, nada

..., Cohen's old friend Jennifer Warnes helps out on vocals as well. The final verse is typical Cohen bringing together the profane and profound, needing no excuse for his love because "it's written in the scriptures. The third song is a more socially aware critique. "Everybody Knows" deals with the AIDS epidemic - then at its shocking early height - and wealth/poverty as well as with personal issues. For Cohen the personal and the political have always mingled. The line: "everybody knows you've been discreet But there were so many people you just had to meet without your clothes and everybody knows" alone makes it worth buying this! So to the title track. "I'm Your Man" is a career-defining moment of, a mission statement of someone who has always been scathingly honest with and about himself. The chorus is a sincere yet amusing...

Inside the case there is a little leaflet advertising their tour, with dates on it, as well as a little about the tour DVD that will be released in November. Before I had a listen to the CD, I had a flick through the booklet that comes with it. This just gives you a little information about each song, as well as a word from the girls. Disadvantages: girly, clever but not THAT clever

..., I doubt this movie did much for their careers, it was released in 2002 and as far as I can tell, when straight to DVD. The film was only 90 minutes long, which is typical length for a film of this nature. It's hardly rocket science, but it will keep you guessing for a while, while not being too taxing on the brain. Its pretty innocent too, limited amounts of sex, violence, and bad language, so I would say this film is suitable for your teenage daughter, your mum, or for any girly in a somewhat 'delicate' state. ...I am a huge fan of ITV show 'I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here', a show where a team of celebrities live in a Jungle for twenty one days, with a celebrity being eliminated every now and then to leave the King or Queen of the Jungle standing as the winner at the end. This year I transformed from a mega fan into completely obsessed with the show (I even bought Lucy Benjamin merchandise and a 'Team Price' hoody!). Having also just bought a Nintendo Wii, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to buy the newly released 'I'm a Celebrity' Wii game. The cover of the Wii game will help you recognise it instantly. But the problem with this song is that it's hard to hear what Pink is singing and therefore making it hard to sing a long to the song.
