Some of you might know what a chopper is especially as they have just made a comeback. A chopper was a laid back bike with handle bars that turn in towards the elongated seat. The gears were like what you'd expect to find in an automatic car with a red handle to make it easy to locate. ...New website for cycling goods, I like the layout and format of the site. The live stock levels gave me the confidence to order, the stuff arrived in three days as promised. It would be nice if the mailing was faster, but the price was good and the delivery free of charge. The product images are really strong and amongst the best I've seen online. Most of the descriptions are good, but some are a little lightweight or incomplete. I ordered one of the ContourHD helmet cams, amazing price (£50 cheaper than elsewhere) , it arrived on time as was as described. Nice to have another site which looks like its been well designed and thought through as a alternative to the usual suspects (CRC and Wiggle). Seems that they focus a little more on niche products. ...Traditionally when you walk into a cycling shop you expect to be walking into a place full of products and accessories to do with cycling which is evident right from the beginning in all of the evans cycles outlets. Although the aspect that is missing in all stores i have been in is the help and knowledge that you get in nearly all independant cycling shops. The feel i get when i walk into and evans cycle shop is a feeling that i might get talked into to buying things that i dont need and that i will not actually get any real help to what i really want. I recently visited one of there shops in central london and i wanted some advice on why i was having problems with the chain on my bike and there was nowone in that shop that would help me. Merlin cycles

Advantages: Price and service
Disadvantages: None to date

...I have used Merlin cycles for over 10 years and have always found their mail order service to be excellent. Goods products always at competitive prices. My first contact with Merlin was when I need ed some wheels, following a good review in MBUK I took the plunge and purchased a set and have never looked back since. Although they now mainly do their business throught their website you can still give them a call for any advice you may need or to check on delivery, something that seems to be missing in this new email world. Customer service with goods prices what more could you want. If you go up to the Lake District like me occasionally why not call in to their shop and see before you buy....

It is all too easy to overlook such a place when retailers such as Halfords have made such ruthless attempts to dominate the leisure cycling market. Many local bike shops found it near-impossible to cope with the pressures of competition from such large-scale companies, and subsequently ceased trading. It is therefore somewhat refreshing to find that there are a few stores left which can cater for the needs of the modern cyclist, in a low-pressure environment.
