Spices Indian Restaurant, Wollaton
Advantages: Parking good
Disadvantages: Average food
...Myself and my partner visited the Spices Restaurant last weekend. After eventually finding the website which is actually listed as Spices of Wollaton, we were able to get a idea of what to expect in terms of the menu although it was quite blurred making it hard to read. Nevertheless we booked a table for Saturday evening.
We were greated at the door and taken to a table . I didnt even get my bum in the seat before i was asked if i wanted a drink and handed the menu. The lighting tin the resturant was too bright and the surroundings felt very cold...there was no atmophere just waiters rushing around and discussing other peoples orders which was extreemly distracting. Our starter platter was less than impressive and no sooner had we finished we were given our mains which were two different dishes that looked and tasted basically the same...

Reema- Contemporary Indian restaurant Darlington
Advantages: Upmarket Indian Restaurant in Darlington
Disadvantages: Service not great
...very substantial indeed. Feelign already rather full, we moved on to the main course when I had chicken malayan which was creamy and very very mild, ideal for anyone not used to spicy food, and my fiancé had chicken tikka masala which was delicious. we were far to full after that for dessert!
Sadly the service did not really improve throughout the meal, one waiter in particular was quite surly and another one did not bring us the extra drinks we asked for. However the restaurant was very busy at the time as there was a large party in, so we have decided to visit there gain soon when it may be quiter in the hope the service will be better.
In summary: Delicious indian food, but service needs improving.
Location: Restaurant is on Coniscliffe Road, which is in the 'nicer' part of Darlington
Atmosphere: Very noisy due to the large...

Khushi's Indian Restaurant, Edinburgh
Advantages: Freshly prepared food, good ingredients, BYO
Disadvantages: Acoustics, location
...Khushi's in Victoria Street at the top of the Grassmarket in Edinburgh is a long established, above standard Indian restaurant on the Edinburgh scene. The difference this time is its location.
Claiming to be Edinburgh's first Indian restaurant, opening in 1947 (and I have no reason to doubt this), Khushi's has moved about five times since then and now resides in glorious Bollywood Technicolor at 9 Victoria Street. I should 'fess up now, this is the only incarnation of Khushi's I have experienced; once for lunch and latterly for a Saturday night family celebration. This last occasion forms the basis for this review.
Ten past seven on a very wet Saturday night and the place is heaving, jumping, buzzing with hundreds of dinners already well into their meals. Which is something of a shock after negotiating the deserted grandeur...

The Anarkali - Super-Curry-is-Delicious-Prices-Aren't-Atrocious!
Advantages: Excellent value for money, good quality food, no charge for corkage
Disadvantages: Toilets a bit "basic", to be avoided during Hampden events
...The Anarkali Indian restaurant on Victoria Road in Glasgow is superb for a budget night out.
Situated in the Southside of Glasgow, it is an old fashioned curry house. The décor doesn?t seem to have been updated in the last twenty years and the toilets are ?compact? and basic to say the least.
It?s a bit on the dark side inside, but the tables, cutlery and glasses are clean and hygienic looking. Probably seating approximately 50 patrons at most, it is not the largest of establishments but it is generally well staffed, usually very busy, and, by my observations, it does a roaring takeaway trade also. It is also VERY busy if there is an event on at Hampden, but to my mind, booking is recommended any weekend to avoid disappointment.
Cast your apprehensions regarding the interior aside though as the food is...

Balti Towers!!
Advantages: Excellent Food, Exemplary Service, Good Value.
Disadvantages: Steep Stairs to Access.
...Background
The Rajah is the longest established Indian restaurant in Inverness - it first opened its doors to the Highland people way back in 1982.
Where Is It?
Deep underground, only accessible from a secret passage?.well not quite, but it is just off a small lane at the back of the Post Office, down a flight of stairs below street level. It is slap-bang in the city centre though and handy for the taxi rank, not far from the bus and train station. There is on-street parking close- by too, or you could do what we did and get my Dad to drop you off?
The Restaurant
There is a small lounge bar area, where you can wait for your table and have a drink. It is also used as a waiting area for those collecting their takeaway meals (so you don't have to fight your way past them to get in the door...

The worst indian in the town centre
Advantages: Mediterranean atmosphere, slightly different to other indians
Disadvantages: expensive, poor customer service, distinctly average food
...I went to Chutney's as it has a really good reputation around Oxford, particularly in guide books and similar. I'd tried all the other curry houses in Oxford town centre, so when a group of us were in the mood for curry, we decided to come here to try it out.
We booked ahead as it was a Saturday evening, and they managed to fit us in (to their credit it was short notice and a group of just over ten). We were directed to the upstairs section of the restaurant.
Chutneys is different to most curry houses, this is blatantly obvious from the moment you walk in. In terms of atmosphere, Chutneys has tried to avoid the standard Indian, so there are no faux indian decorations or music, it looks more in the style of a summery Mediterranean restaurant. Definitely interesting in terms of novelty value if nothing else.
The menu is fantastic...

Harvester Restaurants
Advantages: Always one close by, quick turn out, children are welcome and catered for.
Disadvantages: Toilets can be quite disturbing, not all dishes taste as good they are described.
...Harvester Restaurants
Restaurant Reviewed: Stag and Hounds
Winchester Road
Basingstoke
Hampshire
(next to Comet and Home Base)
The Harvester chain of Restaurants have over 2000 outlets across the United Kingdom and owned and operated by Mitchells and Butlers, who claim to be the UK's leading operator of managed pubs, bars and restaurants. Harvester claim to offer healthy eating, drinking and entertainment in one reasonably priced outlet.
**** Parking and Getting a Table *****
As with most of the Harvester's I have visited, there is usually ample free parking at the rear of the establishment. However on Saturday evenings and Sunday lunch times these places are heaving with customers, so avoid the crowds, go early and if possible ring and reserve a table. The Stag and Hounds is no exception but fortunately...

khushis of Edinburgh
Advantages: great food, nice atmosphere
Disadvantages: The main restaurant is shut right now
...Khushis claims to be one of the oldest existing Indian restaurants in Scotland, having opened their first restaurant in Edinburgh in 1947, and despite changes in premises has been going strong ever since. They are a Punjabi restaurant and all food is halal and mostly in the Punjabi tradition although there are some dishes from other parts of India. No alcohol is served in the restuarant but bringing along your own beer or wine is both accepted and common and there is no charge.
The main restaurant was in a beautiful old Edinburgh building which had a huge, high ceilinged room inside. All was very tastefully decorated using Indian and Punjabi styles but avoiding the kitsch that is typical of many Indian restaurants. Everything was of high quality, from proper wooden furniture to the cutlery to the decoration. Generally it felt classy but...

An INDIAN in my kitchen!
Advantages: Easy to prepare at home; good value on Special Offer.
Disadvantages: Not quite like the real thing, dry aftertaste.
...a guest into their homes they give him the best of what they have cooked; in festivals, food is a major part of the celebration.
Indian food is well known for having varieties in colour, taste and aroma. It is also very rich in calories because they use much cream, oil and (mostly) ghee (clarified butter) in their cooking which is very high in cholesterol and calories. Indian food contains a mix of spices and herbs, both dry and fresh. In such a hot climate, spices are a "must have" to help preserve the food and are an integral part of Indian cuisine. No meal is complete without a touch of spice, even in desserts.
The Indian food market has grown rapidly and Indian restaurants are all over the country; near where I live there are more than 8 Indian restaurants and takeaway places. Most of these restaurants are quite expensive...
