Spices Indian Restaurant, Wollaton

Advantages: Parking good
Disadvantages: Average food

...Myself and my partner visited the Spices Restaurant last weekend. After eventually finding the website which is actually listed as Spices of Wollaton, we were able to get a idea of what to expect in terms of the menu although it was quite blurred making it hard to read. Nevertheless we booked a table for Saturday evening. We were greated at the door and taken to a table . I didnt even get my bum in the seat before i was asked if i wanted a drink and handed the menu. The lighting tin the resturant was too bright and the surroundings felt very cold...there was no atmophere just waiters rushing around and discussing other peoples orders which was extreemly distracting. Our starter platter was less than impressive and no sooner had we finished we were given our mains which were two different dishes that looked and tasted basically the same...

Reema- Contemporary Indian restaurant Darlington

Advantages: Upmarket Indian Restaurant in Darlington
Disadvantages: Service not great

...very substantial indeed. Feelign already rather full, we moved on to the main course when I had chicken malayan which was creamy and very very mild, ideal for anyone not used to spicy food, and my fiancé had chicken tikka masala which was delicious. we were far to full after that for dessert! Sadly the service did not really improve throughout the meal, one waiter in particular was quite surly and another one did not bring us the extra drinks we asked for. However the restaurant was very busy at the time as there was a large party in, so we have decided to visit there gain soon when it may be quiter in the hope the service will be better. In summary: Delicious indian food, but service needs improving. Location: Restaurant is on Coniscliffe Road, which is in the 'nicer' part of Darlington Atmosphere: Very noisy due to the large...

Veeraswamy - top choice for a spicy Sunday

Advantages: Delicious food, some unusual dishes, good value special offers
Disadvantages: Expensive drinks, high service charge, staff occasionally over attentive

...The Veerswamy is advertised as London?s oldest Indian restaurant (not the first which was Gaylord?s) and it has long been the wish of our household to eat there. Himself would spend hours looking at their website planning what he would choose if he had to pick from that day?s menu and on our most recent visit to the capital I decided to put him out of his misery. We booked through TopTable and confirmation from the restaurant came through within a couple of hours. We chose to visit at Sunday lunchtime and booked for 1.00pm as we wanted to leave enough time for a leisurely lunch and still have plenty of time to catch our train north. As a result we were among the first in the restaurant which is perhaps why, at first, we felt a bit overwhelmed by the number of staff fussing round us. Although the restaurant is on Regent Street...

Khushi's Indian Restaurant, Edinburgh

Advantages: Freshly prepared food, good ingredients, BYO
Disadvantages: Acoustics, location

...Khushi's in Victoria Street at the top of the Grassmarket in Edinburgh is a long established, above standard Indian restaurant on the Edinburgh scene. The difference this time is its location. Claiming to be Edinburgh's first Indian restaurant, opening in 1947 (and I have no reason to doubt this), Khushi's has moved about five times since then and now resides in glorious Bollywood Technicolor at 9 Victoria Street. I should 'fess up now, this is the only incarnation of Khushi's I have experienced; once for lunch and latterly for a Saturday night family celebration. This last occasion forms the basis for this review. Ten past seven on a very wet Saturday night and the place is heaving, jumping, buzzing with hundreds of dinners already well into their meals. Which is something of a shock after negotiating the deserted grandeur...

A Destination that Suits All

Advantages: So much to do without costing a fortune.
Disadvantages: Too hot to visit between June and September.

...now 80% British. This is due to tax-free living, hot weather all year round and cost of living, which is very cheap. Surprisingly, Dubai maintains its culture so you will never see a drunken brit in a pub as alcohol is only sold in hotel bars and restaurants. The Muslim people do not drink alcohol, or eat pork although you can eat pork in most hotels. Most of the women will be covered up in long black robes. It covers up most of their body so you can only see their eyes. Westerners will be required to cover up a little as a sign of respect but Dubai is very used to westerners so you can get away with shorts and t-shirts. If you visit cultural cities like Abu Dhabi then you will be required to wear long trousers and long t-shirts with a round neck style (for women). The Arab men wear long white robes. These do not cover their heads...

From Dubai With Love

Advantages: Dubai is a safe place with very good quality of life. There is universal brotherhood everywhere.
Disadvantages: None for me, but the hot weather for tourists who are not used to this.

.... German and US citizens can obtain visit visas from the UAE Embassies of their respective countries. Israelis and travellers whose passports bear Israeli stamps are barred from entering UAE. * HOTELS * Dubai has a chain of well-managed and high quality hotels, suiting to everybody's purse. Handy Tips for Travellers

Advantages: Plenty of Shopping
Disadvantages: Never enough time

...Dubai Airport is one of my favourites - providing there is plenty of time to appreciate all it has to offer. Travelling into Dubai - Be prepared for a lot of walking - the exit seems miles away from the plane! There are moving walkways to help make the distance shorter, and if you are elderly, there is a buggy which drives along the walkways to save your feet. There are not many signs to direct you, but generally go with the flow of people and you won't get lost. Immigration can take a long time- especially if your flight arrives at the same time as one from the Far East, so, unless you travel business class, be prepared to wait in long queues. TIP - choose a queue with more Europeans in it as they take less time to process TIP - If It is possible, I recommend you to book the Marhaba. This does not cost very much (I...

The Anarkali - Super-Curry-is-Delicious-Prices-Aren't-Atrocious!

Advantages: Excellent value for money, good quality food, no charge for corkage
Disadvantages: Toilets a bit "basic", to be avoided during Hampden events

...The Anarkali Indian restaurant on Victoria Road in Glasgow is superb for a budget night out. Situated in the Southside of Glasgow, it is an old fashioned curry house. The décor doesn?t seem to have been updated in the last twenty years and the toilets are ?compact? and basic to say the least. It?s a bit on the dark side inside, but the tables, cutlery and glasses are clean and hygienic looking. Probably seating approximately 50 patrons at most, it is not the largest of establishments but it is generally well staffed, usually very busy, and, by my observations, it does a roaring takeaway trade also. It is also VERY busy if there is an event on at Hampden, but to my mind, booking is recommended any weekend to avoid disappointment. Cast your apprehensions regarding the interior aside though as the food is...

The best hotel/attraction in Dubai

Advantages: Exclusive, brilliant, luxurious, great service
Disadvantages: very expensive

...The Burj Al Arab also known as The Tower of Arabs is one of the major attractions in Dubai. It is located on a man-made island on the Persian Gulf. It was once the tallest building in the world used exclusively as a hotel. It is now the third tallest hotel due to two taller buildings being built, which are used exclusively as hotels just like the Burj Al Arab. The second tallest hotel is located in North Korea and the hotel leading the way is also in Dubai and is called the Rose Tower. The Burj Al Arab is a staggering 321 metres (1,053 ft) and is one of the reasons why Dubai at the present time is on of the most popular holiday destinations. The Burj Al Arab stands on an artificial island, which is approximately 280 metres (919 ft) out from Jumeirah Beach. The island on which the Burj Al Arab is located is connected to the mainland...
