...A lava lamp is, in principle, very simple. It consists of a lamp, which heats up a glass bulb filled with a waxy solid and a liquid. These cannot mix together and must have very similar densities. As the solid heats up, its density is lowered, so it rises. This cools it down and it then falls to the bottom of the lamp, creating a strangely soothing effect. In practice, making one yourself would involve messing about with expensive and perhaps flammable chemicals, so I wouldn't bother trying. It is much easier just to buy one yourself. The Infocus X3 is the perfect family investment, for films or PC

Advantages: Simple to use, long lamp life
Disadvantages: Quite noisy fan, regular filter cleaning needed

...The X3 projector is a great projector for family use, especially for DVDs and home cinema. The lamp use is excellent but I had to be careful to always clean the filter to maximise the lamp life as lamps are very expensive. In my opinion, the X3 is very easy to use, and has easy installation onto any surface (even a wall) for projection with little space needed. The main concern when I bought this projector was whether it would be of good quality, and it has the standards needed for any video requirements. I wouldn't recommend this to gamers as such as it isn't as good for gaming systems, but still works fine. However, the use of it with a PC or Laptop is great, especially when you are wanting to use your desktop, video conference or simply view the screen....

I LOVE LAMP!

Advantages: Hilarious, quotable script and great performances
Disadvantages: A bit weird and silly for some

The film starts off as a standard 70s pastiche with some nice one-liners, but by the end it's an all-out comedy which rivals any in terms of the jokes-to-laughs ratio - a very important factor. The funniest character is not actually Burgundy, but in fact the scene stealing Steve Carell as Brick, the weather guy. People like him because he's "polite and rarely late", and he comes out with some of the funniest and most random lines, such as "I ate a big red candle", "I love lamp" and "Where'd you get those suits, the toilet store?". Carell is one of my favourite comic actors, and he's without doubt the best thing about this film. The rest of the cast are great too - Will Ferrell is very funny, and really suits this role, surely because he wrote it for himself. He's a whole lot better in this than in...

A Jellephish of your very own

...I have had the Jellephish Mood Lamp on my desk for the past 6 months and the novelty of this mood lamp doesn't wear off after the first couple of weeks. From the box, the lamp is a little tricky to set up, mostly because you have to fiddle with getting the cable through the center whilst lining up the glass levels, although you don't need to set the lamp up, you can just use it as a night light style lamp and put it on a wall with just the top lamp section, its up to you. After I had finished setting up the lamp I noticed that it was a little wobbly because the cable was twisting and wasn't flat, so before setting it up I recommend that you straighten and flatten the cable as best you can, else you should be careful with it. The remote control uses 2 AAA batteries (included), it has a rubber feel to it and is comfortable to use...
