It was announced in 2007 as part of the Nokia6500Series - which also includes the Nokia 6500 classic which has slightly less features. The 6500 series with its stainless steel design proved to be a success, and led to the 6600 series (consisting of the 6600 classic and the 6600 slide) and the as yet unreleased 6600i series. --- the BASICS --- The 6500s is a 3G phone characterised by a stainless steel design. It has some advanced features like an autofocus Carl Zeiss 3.2MP camera, TV-out connectivity coupled with the bread and butter of other phones including FM radio, turbo 3G internet, multimedia player etc. It runs on Series 40 operating system and is not a smartphone (i.e. it does not support 2 or more applications running at the same time). Advantages: Great quality with all the latest features, generally awesome!

Most people remember the old classic Nokia 3210, quite heavy with its redeeming feature being snake. Since then Nokia has come a long way and I've had several Nokia phones in my time: the good old 3210, a 6210 which was originally intended for business and had a huge memory, a cute 6233 with a 2megapixel camera along with many other features, and finally a 6500 slide. ...After recently getting rid of my old Orange contract and moving to O2 I decided to get a new phone as well. After much deliberation I decided on the Nokia 6500 slide in black. I could have got the silver phone at a much cheaper price but I decided that the black one looked too good to turn down. First Impressions If you look at the phone from a top down view you will see that the screen is quite big. Infact it is 2.2 inches which is fairly big. Below the screen are four buttons as well as 4 directional buttons in silver. The bottom two buttons are the main calling buttons. The one on the bottom left is the green "call" button which is used to dial a number you've typed in or look at the recent call list. The one on the bottom right is the "end call" button which ends calls and, when in the menu, takes you back to the home screen...

Nokia 6500

Advantages: Wide array of featues, good build quality, overall friendly interface, excellent call clarity.
Disadvantages: Battery life could be better, some features not implemented as well as possible.

...would still recommend the Nokia 6500 to any buyer, particularly those who have been missing out on a number of newer features. The problems I have encountered may be mildly irritating at the time but they only slightly detract from an otherwise very good product....

...After using my Nokia 6300 for around a year I decided to upgrade. I had the choice of a number of phones however opted to go for the Nokia 6500 Slide. I can see where some confusion can come from when it comes to the Nokia 6500: The Nokia 6500 Classic and Nokia 6500 Slide are two quite different phones. The classic came first and has a more traditional mobile phone layout and boasts a medicore 2.0MP camera. The slide on the other hand is the upgrade to the Classic and boasts an ultra sleek slide design with a pretty good 3.2MP camera with flash. It also comes with a front facing camera however unfortunately it can only be used while making 3G video calls and not just to take pictures. Although the phone looks very sleek and well built. I have had the phone for around a month and when I press the buttons it sometimes does not...

Advantages: Slim, lightweight, looks good.
Disadvantages: Texting can be difficult until you are used to it.

Advantages: good camera
Disadvantages: joke battery life, unreliable software

...I got a Nokia 6500 slide with a monthly contract deal from 3 mobile a few months ago. I had not had a Nokia before, but obviously knew them to be one of the largest handset manufacturers, so thought I would get this one to see what I was missing out on, the truth is....not a lot really. GOOD BITS. the phone is good looking, has a solid feel to the slider mechanism, a good camera with flash. BAD BITS. Battery life is a joke, ideally, it needs to be charged every day. The phone regularly completely crashes and re-sets itself, meaning all your personal settings ie. ringtones, wallpaper etc are set back to factory settings. In sunlight, the screen actually gets darker, and more difficult to see, then gets lighter in dark circumstances, surely Nokia know this is the wrong way round?? Nokia 6500 Slide - fairly good

Advantages: Very strong, scratch proof, very good volume and quality of music in the mp3 player
Disadvantages: battery time, radio did not work for me, voicemail did not always work for me

...I had my nokia 6500 slide for a year and a half, and as my contact ended i got a new phone - Samsung jét. Looking at the phone, in my opinion it is not the most attractive - dull grey, square shaped. However the dull exterior is scratch proof, which for those like me who are always dropping things, this is very useful. However, although scratch-proof, through my experiences i found that it was not 'dent-proof'! The phone has a regular 3.2 megapixel camera with flash, but as my friends brought out their new 5 and 8 megapixel camera phones, this 3.2 seemed fairly meagre in comparison, however it does its job (as well as video recording) and for me, the main aspect of the phone was not the camera. I send a lot of texts and this phone really was excellent for texting, the keypad is easy to use and the predictive texting is very simple...

...Nokia 6500s is a great phone with easy navigation, good look and not to forget an excellent camera quality with a 3.2 megapixel Carl Zeiss camera. I have had this phone for quite a few months and I would have to say, although it has similar features to previous Nokia phones, it is still a good phone. Nokia 6500 Classic

Advantages: Sleek design & ease of use
Disadvantages: Poor Battery Life no video calling

...The 6500 Classic is Nokia's thinnest phone so far, and is a stunningly beautiful phone too. It's easy to use and does just what I want from a phone - make calls, take pictures and play music. Supplied with 1 Gbyte of memory and a stereo headset, it's already equipped to go. The only thing that is really missing from this 3G phone is video calling. The battery life isn't brilliant but is better than a lot of other similar phones. The small keypad can take a little time to get used to aswell. The 6500 Clasic is extremely sleek with its aluminium casing ("individually polished", according to the Nokia blurb) and is available in Black and Bronze. I do like the 6500 Classic. It's a very beautiful phone and lovely to use, apart from the small keypad. It isn't all-singing and all-dancing, but that's not necessarily a bad thing....
