...ink jet printers seem to be the common solution to every home personal computers hard copy situation but buying a cheap printer can work out costlier in the long run. The problem is the cartrages. Even a cheap inkjet printer can be brought for about £40 squid and have quite a decent quality of print but cartrages range from £15 squid to up to £40 and if the whole family are using it on regualar basis they mightent last very long. There are also special paper to buy like glossy for photo's and options to put the printer into a different mode to specialize for photos so these can take up more ink then in draft mode, so its important to look at the whole perspective on what the printer is to be used for and cartridge price before getting one in....

Review of Inkjet Printers - Ink Jets

multipurpose paper

Advantages: less than 0.4p per sheet
Disadvantages: a wee bit thin

...great (mostly down to the printer of course, but the overall effect is quite impressive and that couldn't happen if the paper was very low quality). Previously I've used it in an inkjet and that was fine too. I also use the paper for making notes (i don't like lines!). It's pleasant to write on and at less than half a penny per sheet, you don't need to worry about keeping the words down. There's not much else I can think to write about this brand of plain paper. The slight giveaway of the 'thinness' of the paper loses it a star but for those of us who don't have the money to waste on expensive luxuries, this is a worthwhile purchase....

SAVE MONEY on inkjet cartidges

Advantages: Saves a lot of money
Disadvantages: Takes a bit of time, can be messy!

...I feel that there is a conspiracy going on. No, I don;t mean the one about area 47, Roswell and those little green men, or the true whereabouts of Lord Lucan, or whether Elvis really was seen in Sainsbury?s in Bournemouth high street last weekend, this is a bigger conspiracy altogether. I?m sick and tired of paying extortionate costs for something as simple as a cartridge for my printer! I don?t know who came up with the idea of refill cartridges, but they are laughing all the way to the bank, and so are the manufacturers, who are really raking in the cash. Printer cartridges are designed to be thrown away when the ink runs out, and you are supposed to buy a whole replacement cartridge, made by the same company that manufactured your printer (a nice little earner eh!) for up to £30 each time. Wow, that?s a lot of cash these...

Review of HP Premium Choice - paper - 500 pcs. (CHP420)

Good quality A3 Inkjet Printer

Advantages: Fast A4 & A3 printing, good quality from HP
Disadvantages: Large in size

...We purchased this at work predominently for printing our brochures and mailshot literature, and after a lot of research decided on this product from HP. The price was around £280 + VAT and delivery. We had always purchased HP products before, as they have proved themselves to be value for money as far as long service and reliability is concerned. This printer is available in three configurations; The CP1700 is a standard A3 inkjet photo quality printer; the CP1700d is the same model, but comes with a 'duplex unit' which enables you to print documents double sided; the CP1700ps is a 'postscript edition' that comes with 'Adobe Postscript' software and configuration. We purchased the CP1700d option, as when printing our brochures we like to print two sided, and it works very well. The paper tray holds a resonable amount of paper...

Review of HP Color Inkjet Cp1700

HP D1470 Inkjet Printer.

Advantages: Very cheap, durable, and excellent for the amateur computer user.
Disadvantages: Tray a little too small, and a few issues with packing the tray with paper.

...the £30 mark. It is durable, unfussy, and was simple to set-up (plug-and-play). My previous printer was a Lexmark all-in-one, and I honesty did have problems with the Lexmark in terms of installation and reinstallation when the printer was unplugged, so the D1470 was a surprise. It works through USB, and I tested it on Vista, with no problems. The installation booklet included was, as befitting the price (and perhaps the confidence in compatibility), sparsely-detailed, but HP do offer good support at a central level. The printing is fast, bar complex tables and colour-heavy projects, and I was able to get around 150-200 pages of text from one black cartridge, so hopefully this gives you an idea of the economics of the printer (at best just over 6p per page, not taking into account the cost of paper etc.) Part of my testing...

No more paper jams

...I chose this printer because I own a Dell Inspiron Laptop and I reckoned that a printer from the same brand would ensure easy compatability. I urchased this little printer a bit under a year ago second hand on Ebay, from a guy who'd used it to print out his thesis. There was no instruction manual at all. I'd have liked one, although installation was straightforward with a CD Rom. You really need a CD Rom drive to install it. (If your computer has only a floppy drive, it's awkward. There's a download possibility but that's awfully complicated). I've used it regularly, and I'm pleased with it. It's the first printer I've ever owned, or used at work, that doesn't produce paper jams. Argh, how I hate paper jams! They always happened when I needed printouts urgently. This little machine hasn't had a single jam, and I love it for that...

Dell photo printer 720

Advantages: Size, cheap
Disadvantages: Paper intake, expensive cartridges, slow

...better. But that?s a different story. In theory this printer can print up to 13ppm in black and 7ppm in colour, but my printing speed has never even come close to that. In essay printing (full pages in a black letter type) I am happy when it prints 7-8 pages per minute. When there are tables and graphs included it is even slower than that. Colour prints require even more time and an A4 print usually takes between 20-30 seconds to print (equivalent to 2-3ppm). So don?t simply look at the theoretical print speed as this isn?t the actual speed! PAPER INTAKE I have had serious trouble with the paper intake of this printer. I use standard A4 printer paper, but the printer often fails to accept just 1 sheet of paper. Especially when the paper tray is fairly full (20-30 sheets), the printer often takes in 2 sheets at a time or starts...

Top of the range inkjet - amazing printer

Advantages: Quick, amazing text quality, nice photo quality, computer doesn't have to be on to opporate, auto-alignment, the list goes on
Disadvantages: Bitch to install, no tools in windows toolbox, more suited to business environment

...paragraph below. When it began to align the printheads a small blue light came on in the printer, and flashed from left to right. This is a small sensor so that the printer can check how well it's printing, and align the printheads accordingly - it looks amazing, and also checks the paper type before printing (e.g. if you insert photo paper the quality will be tweaked to suit photos). AUTO PRINTHEAD ALIGNMENT The printer does this to perfect print quality, however, as I said before, the printer does this EVRY TIME it starts - which would be fine except it uses up 2 sheets of paper! Pressing cancel does skip this however. QUALITY Ahhhhhhhh, heaven. Text printing is exactly like what you'ld see from a laser printer, at 1200x600dpi. This is the ONLY HP inkjet capable of this. The photo quality runs at 1200x600 and produces excellent results...

dell printer that prints dell... i mean well

Advantages: Cheap and cheerful
Disadvantages: Hard to find cartridges, and expensive

..., dell customer support and all the usual stuff. -Style- Its not one of the most attractive things in the world, it's a kind of greyish colour with black paper feed trays and catch tray. The sides and back are also black. There is a big dell badge on the front and set to the side the power button is on a weird oval type raised platform. -Paper feed- It has an adjustable paper feed tray with A4 paper being the biggest size. To adjust it you just have to pull the little grey tab along, so easy to do. The only problem I have came across is if you have too much paper it can be hard to get it all in. -Cartridges- There are two cartridges needed for this printer, a Black and a coloured cartridge. They are about an inch wide and one and a half inches high. You will receive 2 "trial" cartridges with the printer but these will run out...
