A Horrible Fax Machine!

Advantages: ... it's a fax machine
Disadvantages: EVERYTHING

As can be seen from the picture on Ciao, the machine has a phone receiver on top, and just under a control panel with digits and other buttons for the fax/photocopier funcions, a little two lines monitor and nothing more. Aside from the ugly look that doesn't possibly match with any existing furniture, it's a space waster, too big to be placed anywhere but on an office desk (surely not in a house). I'm not even listing too many details because it's a machine to be avoided and I'll write down very soon why. WHAT'S GOOD ABOUT THIS MACHINE? Mmmh... mmmhh... I guess it's a fax machine that is often in offer for a good price but aside from that and the fact that it can also do photocopies, I could only find bad points. THE PROBLEMS I noticed annoying problems from the start. The machine has two different entries...

eFax.com - Definately the best free fax service

Advantages: Free fax number, no need to have a dedicated fax line
Disadvantages: None

...other features such as page zoom, document flip etc etc. I have been using this service for two years now and have received hundred's of faxes and have recommended this site to many of my friends and business associates. They also give you the option to open an account with them and make a deposit with your credit card and then you can also send your faxes to them by e-mail and they will fax to the respective recipititants. These faxes will be charged at the USA phone rates. You can check their rates for various countries and you will certainly find some which are cheaper than sending it from the UK....

A GUIDE TO DIY INKJET REFILLS

...empty cartridges myself. I ordered my refill kit from JR Inkjet, via the telephone, a starter kit consisting of 40ml black ink, and 20ml each of Cyan, Yellow and Magenta, plus a bottle of flush. Included with the kit were a blunt syringe, some sealer caps, and a small drill bit, plus instructions. Total cost £24.99 including P&P, the web site address for JR Inkjet is shown at the end of the op, JR have no online ordering facility at present, and my order took a week to arrive. There are however many other web sites where you can order the same product online, I shall list some of them at the end of this op. I carefully read the instructions for refilling, armed with rubber gloves, and the syringe I went into the kitchen, placed old newspaper on the worktop, and set up operations next to the sink! ...ink jet printers seem to be the common solution to every home personal computers hard copy situation but buying a cheap printer can work out costlier in the long run. The problem is the cartrages. Even a cheap inkjet printer can be brought for about £40 squid and have quite a decent quality of print but cartrages range from £15 squid to up to £40 and if the whole family are using it on regualar basis they mightent last very long. There are also special paper to buy like glossy for photo's and options to put the printer into a different mode to specialize for photos so these can take up more ink then in draft mode, so its important to look at the whole perspective on what the printer is to be used for and cartridge price before getting one in....

great value for money

Advantages: robust, long-lasting and good value
Disadvantages: sometimes a pain to use

The samsung is also nice and compact and well-designed: it looks like it cost a lot more than the £200-odd it actually does cost. In fact this nearly put us off buying it as we thought it might disguise a shoddy product but we were wrong. Furthermore, it's an ink-jet which means that the ink lasts a lot longer than on faxes that use that funny carbon-paper roll stuff (again, our old fax was one of these). In fact we haven't had to change the ink cartridge yet, so I'm afraid I don't know exactly how much they cost, but I'm assuming they're comparable to the price of printer ink-jet cartridges. As with many of these things, it also functions as a copier and you can change the size/ darkness setting on the output: generally very useful. The downside...
