Friends For Life - A new Incentive for Primary Education
Advantages: Preparing our children for the stresses of our modern world
Disadvantages: none
...~~~~Friends For Life ~~~~
Prevention of Anxiety & Depression in Children.
(Before you start reading this review - I will warn you that it is a long review, my longest to date, but if you can take on board what is about you will see that this programme can also help adults that find coping with life stressful and sometimes so difficult that they can suffer with depression).
This Primary Education Programme is something new to our school and the area.
For the past 8 weeks I have been privileged to work with the school nurse and her team on a new initiation, from Australia, that helps prevent ?Anxiety and Depression? children. ?What ? Anxiety & Depression in children?? I hear some of you ask. It?s true - recent studies have shown that in today?s fast moving more people...

Educational fun.
Advantages: Versatilty, price.
Disadvantages: The pencil is a little too thin
...This is the first handheld console I have ever owned. I'm 27 years old.
The main reason I purchased the DS was so I could play 'Brain Training Games' or other Educational games. I played on a friends and found it very entertaining, I figured that if I bought one myself I'd challenge myself mentally and wouldn't just sit around watching TV!
The best thing about the DS is the genre of games available for it, similar to the WII - Nintendo decided to target a different audience than the stereotypical gamers. I feel the succeeded in doing so. I read an article that a school had introduced the use of Nintendo DSs into children's mathematics lesson, with results of better learning and improved concentration. I am also a teacher and my children loved testing their knowledge on various maths games.
The feel of the DS is also very nice...

Bolton Institute
Advantages: Good close knit community
Disadvantages: Not as high profile as some would like, still struggling to recieve university status
...I spent four long enjoyable years studying at Bolton Institute. The course I was studying involved a year in industry if your wondering why four years and not three. In my time at Bolton I studied for a degree in Civil Engineering. I started my industrial training year and ended up getting a full time job, thus I had to complete my fianl year through day release. This was allowed due to the flexibility of Institute and the wide variety of courses and modes of study available. At the time Bolton was one of the only places that offered both full time, sandwich and part time courses in Civil Engineering.
Bolton itself it a great little town, close to the big city amenities of Manchester and yet everything you need is here in the town itself.
The nightlife is outstanding with a wide variety of bars, pubs and clubs, together with a newly...

Education Studies at SHU
Advantages: Friendly staff, keep job options open, Sheffield, Work Experience
Disadvantages: Work Placements aren't always as hoped for
.... I was really pleased to find that my flat mate was on the same course, and with only 47 people on the course somehow I don't think it was an accident that we were placed together. As with every educational institution, the first week was information overload, but the course packed it into 2 days, which left us free to enjoy late nights during the rest of freshers week. We learnt about placements, using the library, the course, ice breakers, tutors, modules, timetables... you get the point. But there was something so much different to the open day. Our tutor was lovely and did some ice breakers with us, that included putting our anonymous hopes and fears into a hat and drawing them out one at a time to discuss. This really helped as after a while it became clear that everyone was frightened of the same thing, except for someone who...

An Education in Great Cinema
Advantages: Great story, Brilliant acting - another classic from Almodovar
Disadvantages: None worth mentioning
...Bad Education (or La Mala Educación) is the latest film (released 2004) from the great Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar. Anyone who has an interest in Spanish cinema will know Almodóvar as the director of such excellent films as ?Talk to Her? and ?All About My Mother?. Bad Education stars Gael Garcia Bernal, the Mexican heart-throb who has appeared in a whole list of films, not least ?The Motorcycle Diaries?, ?Amores Perros? and ?Y tu Mamá También?. The film is subtitled, so if you can?t handle that then read no further (but you are missing such a lot).
**** Plot Summary ****
In 1980 Madrid Enrique Goded (Fele Martinez) is a young successful film director searching newspapers for an idea for a story for a new film. The doorbell rings and a bearded young man enters claiming to be Enrique?s old school friend Ignacio Rodriguez...

Education, Education, Education
Advantages: see opinion
Disadvantages: see opinion
...It’s the question that every parent has to face – how should I educate my child? Not only is it a very difficult question to answer its also a very personal one. I attended no less than 5 different schools, from Primary Age up to leaving school at the age of 18. Some might argue that I actually attended 4 schools but my very first school changed its name and its whole set-up when I was still there. After leaving school I went to work in a Government run school in Zimbabwe which I thought was fantastic.
The first school was a small Primary school in a little village in Cleveland. As I was still very young I remember very little of this school but I seem to recall that the standard of education was high and despite only attending for about 2yrs I developed well. The teachers were strict, but they were dedicated to their jobs...

A great institution
Advantages: A really, funny and clever novel
Disadvantages: Too clever by half
...Gore Vidals novels are probably best described as quirky. My mum finds them unreadable so that should warn you not to expect a normal read. Instead you can expect a funny, clever and very readable (in my opinion) novel.
The Smithsonian Institution is about a boy called T and his talent for Quantum Physics. He is invited to the Smithsonian to help develop the atom bomb and there finds that he can move through time. This results in an effort to save his own life (he is going to die in the war) an attempt to prevent the world war and plenty of sex.
The sex part is obvious by the cover but is unusual in that T finds himself playing around with Squaw, who happens to be Mrs Cleveland, the wife of a former president. This is because the Smithsonian exhibits come alive when the museum closes and have lifes of their own. Hence...

Mental Institute
Advantages: Great sense of community and helpful, approachable tutors and staff.
Disadvantages: It is called an 'institute'!!
...I am currently studying at Bolton Institute and so this is an extremely valid opinion!
First of all, I hate the fact that it is called an 'institute'. I hate saying that I go there coz it makes me sound mental!! It doesn't quite have the same ring as a 'university.'
However, it IS a university. Bolton Institute has two campuses, Deane Campus and Chadwick Campus (which I am on). These campuses are both in the dingiest parts of Bolton, imaginable, although this doesn't actually affect the great sense of community that the institute has to offer.
I am a Bolton girl myself and so travel in everyday, therefore don't really get the feel of university life that I would if I lived on Campus. However, many of my friends there live on Campus and all rave about it! They all always seem to be up to something most of the time! It sounds...

Excellent educational psychology text
Advantages: Detailed and good-value
Disadvantages: A little heavy going at fist, but very helpful
...Frameworks for Practice in Educational Psychology is described on the cover as 'a textbook for trainees and practitioners'. I'd say that this true, but that it is much more aimed at trainees and newly qualified practitioners than at the more experienced end, it's very explanatory and begins with much more basic information than experienced educational psychologists are likely to want or need.
This book was recommended to me by a practising Educational Psychologist who is also a lecturer for trainee Educational Psychologists. It is a must-read for anyone thinking of applying for the Educational Psychology Doctorate as it gives a very comprehensive view of the issues and practice faced on a day-to-day basis in the field.
This book is recommended for sale at £22.99, but is available slightly cheaper new from Amazon (and I assume other...
