...CGNU - an amalgamation of Commercial Union, General Accident, London & Edinburgh and Norwich Union to name but a few. What's going on, there appear to be fewer and fewer insurance companies to choose from these days. All of the major companies are taking over the smaller companies, are we going to be left with one major insurer? If so what will happen to the good old high street Insurance Broker?? There will be no insurance companies left for them to offer, so therefore they will no doubt go. So many insurance companies seem to be amalgamating i.e. Bishopsgate and Northern Star have become Fortis. Zurich have taken over Eagle Star. etc etc etc. What is really peculiar also is that Insurance companies are out pricing the small insurance brokerage, with their direct products i.e. the same insurance quotation from Norwich Union... Disadvantages: In my experience have put up premium for no reason

...I'm sorry, but this is a quick moan not much of an opinion. I was quite happy gatting my car insurance from Norwich Union Direct for a year. The quote that they offered me was a reasonable one, which saved me a lot compared to my previous insurer. But when my insuranve came up for renewal I couldn't believe it, the premium had gone up by £50 pounds. There I was expecting it to go down, now having 3 years no claims and it was going up. I tried to ask them why it had gone up but no one there seemed able to answer my question. Needless to say I found a cheaper quote elsewhere and moved to that insurance company. When I phoned up to cancel my insurance they asked the usual questions, why are you leaving, which insurance company are you going to, how mych are you paying. ...A few years ago I bought a VW Scirocco. Can you believe some companies won't even insure this model? (It's a coupe, and it's quick, but it's hardly a Ferrari!). After several phone calls I insured it with Churchill, their quote being £100 less than the first company I tried. Last year somebody ran into the back of me, just when I was about to sell the car! A major crisis was averted by the speed and efficiency with which Churchill dealt with my claim, and the approved repairer did a superb job. Both my current vehicles are insured with Churchill.... Disadvantages: Insurance companies will try to wriggle out of a claim

...In 32 years of driving, without a conviction or claim, I consider myself a safe driver. I can only drive one vehicle at a time, but if I have an additional vehicle, I have to start again with no 'no claims bonus'. It would make sense if the driver were insured, not the vehicle. I cannot understand why my insurance premium rises every year, when I am not claiming. Over the years I consider I have paid enough for any future claim. This is one serious area where insurance should be nationalized, not in the hands of wealthy companies who use the law to their own ends.... Read review

...I have just booked our Travel Insurance over the Internet again this year and have found that Norwich Union Insurance have the cheapest in money and best cover. They cover you for 10 million Medical Cover etc as does every other company so they aren't skimping on anything by offering cheaper Insurance. By ordering the Insurance over the Internet you also save 10% and it is really easy. All you need is the amount of people travelling, dates of travel and whether it is Europe, UK etc. For myself, my husband and a 3 year old daughter it was priced up at £38.25 and that was a saving of around £25 off some Insurance quotes that I received. Direct Line were very expensive as were HSBC but the policy by HSBC was a very good one.... Read review

...We have insured our office with Zurich Insurance North America for over 10 years. Last month there was a burglary in the building and we filed a claim for $2100 (Note, this is our first claim ever for our office). We received a letter 3 days later informing us that our policy was canceled due to risk previously not considered. Not only that, it's been a month since we submitted our claim and they still have not reviewed it. I will not be surprised if they do not pay out at all. On top of that, the adjustor I've been in contact with is very rude. After 10 years of insuring with them, they canceled our policy for a lousy $2100 claim. Do yourself a favor and find a new insurance company unless you plan to never file a claim. Zurich will not stand behind their policy.... Read review

...Most of us usually get tired constantly up phoning a round for a motor insurance quote. If you log in to the internet you can receive a quote or a competitive quote very quickly, you may be suprised to find that it is more cheaper than the quote you are offered by an other insurance company. if you are not satisfied with that go and ring them up and question them about the quote, it is helpful becuase the more questions you ask the more you will know. directline is a good company and i reccommend it... During this time all the paperwork has always been correct and arrived on time and the staff have always been very polite and helpful when we have spoke to any of them on the telephone. The real test for any insurance company is when a claim is made. We were recently unfortunate enough to have our youngest son’s BMX bike stolen from our garden shed in the early hours of a Tuesday morning. Later in the morning I informed both the Police and the insurance company by telephone. The claim was registered and as the bike was only a few months old we still had the receipt which we sent to the insurance company by first class post. ...I was looking for a reliable insurance company to insure my newly purchased old BMW with side skirts and alloys (my pride and joy). I decided to contact AA Insurance as they were a well established and reputable (??) company. I arranged my insurance with them after being given a very reasonable quote. When my documents arrived it turned out the the AA are insurance BROKERS and my insurance was in fact with Provident Insurance, not AA at all. The documents were inaccurate too - they stated that there were no modifications to the car - although the AA had told ME that the car had a body kit and alloys!! Quite a few months down line, someone else thought that my car looked as good as I thought it did - and stole the 4 alloy wheels. They didn't even have the decency to prop it up on bricks!!
