Intel Pentium D E5200 Overclockers budget king and luck tester

Advantages: fast and cheap
Disadvantages: low L2 cache and overclocking relies on luck

...The Intel E5200 is a tricky CPU. when overclocking its very unpredictible on how high a clock and how stable you can get it. this chip was taken from the bad end. You have a 50/50 chance of having an overclocking catalyst or a stability wreck. if you want to get great performance for your money though this should do the job nicely it makes an easy 2.7-2.8Ghz overclock. I managed to push mine to 3Ghz an unknowingly damaging it. so if you are an overclocker with this CPU be very careful and run frequent test to male sure you are completely stable because this CPU can go from fly to fry in the slightest adjustment. a safe mark I would say is 2.8Ghz. go to 3Ghz if you have the appropriate cooling and go beyond that if you feel lucky and have amazing cooling but once again be very cautious. this CPU is a bit of a power eater too so try to...

Intel inside my PC

Advantages: Great at sound and video decoding/encoding
Disadvantages: Not as good for games as AMD processors

...I bought a standard PC from Tiny about a year ago, which contained an Intel Celeron D 2.4Ghz processor, after a few months I realised I needed to upgrade to keep up with the increasing demands from games and primarily the music programs I use as a musician which are very CPU intensive. Before making my choice I read up a lot on the various processors available, and summed up all the advantages and disadvantages of each, and it all boiled down to the Intel Pentium 4 3.4Ghz processor as it was the best processor available for the price. Pentium III - More for your money

Advantages: Reliable
Disadvantages: Cost? ( see opinion )

...tag given to Intel processors is somewhat unjustified. For example my PIII 600 in May 2000 - cost £240 running at 800mhz. An 800mhz PIII at the time was approx £500, enough to get a top of the range graphics card and change. Admittedly there are some "hidden" costs to the overclocked version e.g. a good quality mainboard, roomy case for good airflow, and a better heatsink, but I think that these are good practice in building any computer, the other minus is there's no guarantee that the processor you get will sucessfuly overclock. I would however still recommend the Pentium III, it's a good, fast and stable processor even when pushed towards it's limits....
