Established server platform
Review of Intel Xeon 1.7 GHz processor by Oliy

Advantages: Established, good value, stable, large L2 cache
Disadvantages: Not the cheapest nor the best performing

...This processor, based on the highly successful Pentium III core is well established in servers - the large (up to 2mb) L2 cache allows good server performance for multiple users. It can be used in dual or quad array, and currently is available in speeds of up to 800mhz. New competitors in the field, including P4 Xeon and AMD MP Athlon 'Palomino' may be ahead in terms of performance, but currently P4 Xeons cost the earth, and P4 is doubted to be much better performers than PIII anyway. The AMDs are currently unreleased to the market, therefore leaving the PIII to take up the slack in small server markets. Its core enhances over the PII Xeon make it a more viable option, and price drops to keep the PIII competitive with AMD and P4 make it economically sensible. The PIII's stability (key feature for a server) plays an important role... Read review

Pentium 4 - 2.2Ghz
Review of Intel Pentium 4 2 GHz processor by DigitalThing

Advantages: Performs Well
Disadvantages: Expensive

...I wrote this a while, back so I am now publishing it on ciao but it is still fairly up to date. I spend a long time writing this. 1 hour: After a simultaneous processor release early in 2002, both Intel and AMD are settling back into the standard pattern of trying to beat the other to the punch. Intel impressed us with the Pentium 4 Northwood, as well as jumping a full 200 MHz with the Pentium 4-2.2 GHz. AMD followed this up with their Athlon XP 2100+, which once again had the juice to slip by the fastest Intel had to offer. The last shot was fired by AMD, so naturally it should be Intel's chance to step up to the plate. And from first glance, Intel seems to be carrying a mighty big bat. With the release of the Pentium 4-2.4 GHz we're seeing yet another 200 MHz speed increase from Intel, which puts even more pressure on the Athlon XP... Read review

i am more then happy with this
Review of Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 / 2.2 GHz processor by smitty91

Advantages: sheer speed and reliability
Disadvantages: none that i can see performance wise

...i have had this for a few months now and all i can say is WOW what a difference this has made to the performance of my system, going from single core, 3.6GHz to this has made one hell of a performance boost, and as a result i can play pretty much anything now, without having to worry about burning the processor out while it is trying to keep up with the rest of my components. it's not everyday that i come across a product that can suprise me when it comes to computers yet this has done just that and for the price i would definetly recommend anyone looking for a perfomance boost and are on a budget when it comes to upgrading their PC this processor will more then perform for the price no matter the system.... What is the real choise
Review of Intel Pentium 4 2 GHz processor by Alligator

Advantages: a lot
Disadvantages: n0

...Hi, I'm Alligator. And i want to present you my new opinion about Intel Pentium 4. Some month ago I usually asked my friend why they wanted to by new Intel Pentium 4. And they usually told me that the 4th has capacity that necessary today then it has the power for the most modern internet programs, fast speed for creation and edition audio and video materials. Then Pentium 4 has production platform that provides submersion in 3d world. But in general they are right but now I can tell you more exact about this high power processor because I made sure myself when I bought Intel Pentium 4. At first there are four types of this processor they are 1.3 GHz, 1.4 GHz, 1.5 GHz and 1.7 GHz. And it has a lot of new advantages. For example in the games: 1. Capacity that allows synthesizing more detailed images 2. To raise the realism... Read review

AMD Phenom 9500 / 2.2 GHz processor
Review of AMD Phenom 9500 / 2.2 GHz processor by shivendu

Advantages: quad-core design handles data efficiently; cheaper than competing Intel quad-core chips.
Disadvantages: Expensive

...The good: "True" quad-core design handles data efficiently; cheaper than competing Intel quad-core chips. The bad: Not fast enough to justify the price savings compared to Intel's chips; next-gen Intel quad-core due out soon could further the performance gap. The bottom line: AMD's new Phenom quad-core CPU has little to recommend it over competing chips from Intel. The Phenom is marginally less expensive, but not enough to make up for its subpar performance. Unless AMD drops prices more aggressively, it looks like Intel will maintain its grasp on the CPU market for the foreseeable future. For raw performance, AMD's Athlon 64 X2 chips have lingered behind their Intel Core 2 Duo counterparts all year. Only aggressive pricing from AMD kept its old dual-core CPUs in systems and on store shelves. According to our testing, AMD will have... Read review

Good value for money
Review of Intel Pentium Dual Core E2180 / 2 GHz processor by zero2007

Advantages: Cheap, silent, easy to overclock
Disadvantages: Heatsink can be a bit fiddlly to install

...With the right motherboard this cpu can be overclocked to 3 GHZ with no problem. Even on a cheap motherboard (abit ip95)i have overclocked to 2.2GHz just by raising the fsb by 10% The processor is excellent for anyone building a cheap HTPC teamed up with 1GB DDR/DDR2 ram and a cheap pci graphics card this will run windows vista ultimate with ease. The dual core enables you to run multi applications without any slow down of the pc. It is nearly silent with the supplied fan and heatsink and even overclocked it run cooler than my previous cpu (pentuim 4 2.8) I have benchmarked this processor against a E4300 and can see no difference in performance in everyday use. Installation couldn't be easier altought the clips on the the heatsink can be a bit fiddly.... Read review

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 / 2.4 GHz processor
Review of Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 / 2.4 GHz processor by mash123

Advantages: handle multiple tasks at same time and doesnt slow pc.
Disadvantages: potentially waste of money

...the latest processor from intel, the new intel core 2 quad is the most powerful processor available for the average home pc. The 2.4GHz processor is more than enough for everyday tasks on your pc. This is perfect if you do hardcore gaming, video editing etc or both! The four cores allow you to simultaneously do alot of tasks on the pc and it will not slow down your pc. As more and more software for pc's need a lot of processing power, this processor is the most up to date and the most powerful as yet. The downside to getting this would be that as computing power of computers are increasing faster and faster with respect to time, the quad core processor will no doubt be yesterdays news within a few months as intel have plans to release an octa-core processor which will then outdate this one.... Pure AMD Class!
Review of AMD Athlon 64 3000+ / 2 GHz processor by haydox

Advantages: Fast, Cheap, 64-bit, so much better than an Intel!
Disadvantages: Lack of 64-bit programs out

...First Things First....this processor is actually called an AMD Athlon64 3000+, which means that it is the equivalent to an Intel 3Ghz. But it is called here a 2Ghz because AMD are better than Intel and their processors can handle more information, so can be slower, and therefore cooler. (e.g. a 2Ghz AMD is the same as a 3Ghz Intel!). Now to the review, i bought this processor because i needed a new one badly and this was faster, had a bigger cache and was 64-bit, then i saw the price and my jaw literally dropped, i couldn't believe it! I installed this processor fine first time, no hassle (though i would recomment removing the thermal compound on the supplied heatsink and using Arctic SIlver instead) and it works like a dream, even though it is the lower end of the Athlon64 market! As well as working fine it can also be overclocked... Read review

Cool n' Quiet - Hear it n' Believe it
Review of AMD Athlon 64 3400+ / 2.2 GHz processor by Darkle

Advantages: Cool Quiet and fast
Disadvantages: about to be changed

...with the side panel off. The fan is controlled through the bios, so it will frequently stop for 2 and 3 minutes at a time! Then maybe only come on for a minute or so to cool off. This is really a brilliant piece of engineering, AMD have heard the cries of the modern market, and responded perfectly. I’ve talked briefly about the power these processors have, let me expand on this. Although this is called the AMD 64 3400, it actually runs at 2.2ghz. Many people used to simply look at the MHz rating of a processor and decide on that, but there is much more to it than this. If AMD had simply posted the true speed of the processors, they would have seemed inferior to Intel, because at the moment there’s nothing from AMD above the 2.4 GHz mark(2400MHz). Yet this processor really challenges the top Intel processors. If you consider... Read review
