Bank of Scotland for Students
Advantages: Biggest overdraft, branches are plentiful, great service
Disadvantages: Can't think of any!
...I'm a student and chose the Bank of Scotland mainly because they offered the largest interest free overdraft - In my first year I didn't need this, but I'm thankful that I took it as its proved very handy this year (2nd year)
I originally wanted to go with Lloyds - but they said I couldn't bank with them because no member of my family banked with them (great business model) - I hope they go bust now. But them I'm glad they did, because I got to go with Bank of Scotland!
Online banking is a breeze - I have two credit cards with the Bank of Scotland, and everything it managed from the one portal. It's secure, easy to use and doesn't require you to write down your password and pick the 7th, 11th and 12th letters from it just to log in.
Telephone banking is also relatively easy - with a trusting scottish accent on the automated...

Choosing and Using student bank accounts
Advantages: Free overdraft facility, free gifts.
Disadvantages: Very low interest rates.
...I am going to give you some information regarding how to choose the right student bank account for you. I will also give you information regarding how to use it effectively and how to manage your money in general regarding banking and interest rates while you are a student.
1) Get a student account with a good overdraft facility.
There are plenty of student bank accounts out there so shop around to get the best deal. Apply for one within the first month or so of joining Uni as they tend to do special offers, which do not carry on all year round. For example I got a HSBC Student Account and the special offer was £50 cash! The points to look for however are not the special offer primarily. You need to look first at what overdraft facilities there are e.g. is it free, how much is it, does this increase during your years of study...

Banking For Dummies
Advantages: Free accounts which offer bonuses and freebies
Disadvantages: You're only expected to have one, so you need to know which to choose
...Most students are reasonably clever. They’ve been to school for a fair number of years, and most (though as the news is happily telling us, not all) will have A Levels or equivalent before they arrive at university. But there’s a difference between the knowledge you get from book-learning, and the real world stuff you need to pick up in order to survive. I was astounded by the number of my friends who, until leaving home, didn’t have their own bank accounts. Who didn’t understand that they would have to take responsibility for themselves and their finances now they were moving away from Mummy and Daddy. Who had no idea about money. And if there were enough of them at my one school in that one town to make me think about the issue, there must be hundreds throughout the country, hence the reason for the op. Truly...

STUDENT BANKING @ BARCLAYS
Advantages: great service,
Disadvantages: can charge for using different atm machines
...Barclays provide a great service for students. The reason I initially took a Barclays account was because it was the closest bank to uni, but that wouldnt be a big problem even if it weren't so close because there are so many branches of each type of bank scattered around. The no quibble interest free overdraft limit is £1250 which has proved to be very handy - and thats exactly what it is - NO QUIBBLE!! Friends who bank at other places have regular complaints about the service there bank provides - hassles getting there overdrat extended and things like that whereas I can ring up a branch and extend mine by phone. Quick and easy!...

Hotel International
Advantages: Location, breakfasts
Disadvantages: Poor rooms
...I recently went on a cultural girlie trip with a friend to Paris. I was left to do all the booking. I was looking for a reasonable hotel, near a metro stop, which included breakfast. I came across the Hotel International on various travel sites and it seemed fairly highly rated so I booked us in for three nights.
LOCATION:
The hotel is located 6 Rue Auguste Barbier in the 11th Arrondissement. The nearest Metro stop is Garcourt which was a two minute walk away and it was a five minute walk to Republique which gives good links to other lines. It's not really central enough to avoid the Metro and walk to the attractions but it was located so close to a stop that it seemed ideal.
PRICE:
Prices vary depending on size of room and season. There are singles, doubles and triples available. We paid Euro254 for the whole time...

Student Survival - with a Student Cookbook
Advantages: cheap recipe ideas, helpful for beginner cooks, informal style
Disadvantages: no pictures, some recipes are a bit too adventurous
...Student life . . . takeaways, alcohol, nightclubs? Never really my cup of tea - I don't mind fish and chips but I was too careful with my money for them to be more than an occasional treat. No, when I went to uni, I cooked proper meals - maybe I had too much time or maybe I was more organised than I realised - so a few weeks into my first year, I was in the nearest Waterstones looking for textbooks and somehow moved to the cookery section. And why did I buy this book when there were several other "student" recipe books? Two reasons, really - at £6.99, it was the cheapest option I could see, and it had a recipe for Yorkshire pudding. (Which I'd always wanted to master.)
It's a roughly square book, about 2cm thick, with a glossy cover - the sort of thing you'd just be able to wipe over with a damp cloth if food was spilt (provided...

Good student bank
Advantages: Great student banking scheme
Disadvantages: Terrible and greedy pricing on penalty charges!!
...This is my first review, so here it goes! I am a 3rd year student who has been banking with Natwest for the last 6 years. I believe its quality of service has been exceptional, as whatever problem or query I have had has been answered or sorted out by the bank's staff.
They have a wonderful student banking scheme, where they offer the probably the most overdraft amount possible; I visited the branch in my second year where I asked for an increase in my overdraft and they increased it all the way up to £1,500!! (considering I had £1,150 at the start of my second year!!). There is also a free 5 year student rail card which can get you 1/3 off the price of a rail ticket, which is fantastic, as the amount of times i've travelled around england to see my friends who are at different universities (from bristol to portsmouth!) has saved me...

Student eBanks sorted
Advantages: excellent free overdraft, visa debit/cash card
Disadvantages: not as simple to access as it could be
...I have been banking with the LLoydsTSB student eBank for two years. The account has offered everything I could need as a student. The bank offered the best interest free overdraft out of any of the banks I looked at. For the first year there is a maximum £1,500 rising to £2,000 in the second year.
The debit card which comes as standard with the account is a Visa card which means that it is much more flexible than the Switch based cards that many of the other banks use. I have been able to use the card as if it were a credit card and have had no trouble using it abroad at a cost of £1.50 for each transaction.
The centralised system is not as accessible as it could be, but as a student I am away for a lot of the year. So if my account was held at my home branch it wouldn't be any better and at least like this the account is...

Banking for sixteen year olds ,easy... (not!!)
Advantages: Incentives to get you to join
Disadvantages: incentives are no good to under 19`s
...I Set out this morning to look for leaflets on bank accounts for my daughter.
Opening a bank account should be an easy thing to do but I set out to do just that but I find out it isn't as easy as it seems. The account I am trying to sort is for my sixteen year old daughter she is joining the sixth form at school and wants a current account with a cash card here's some of my findings..
Lloyds TSB They are offering a family or friend referral scheme where each of you get awarded £50 they say?
YOU FIRST
You've made the right choice by opening a Lloyd's tsb current account. So why not recommend us to a friend or member of your family? They'll not only benefit from the great products and services we offer.we`ll` also reward them and you with a £50 welcome gift.
I then find out that yes it is open to under 19`s or graduates...

Student Banking Services
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
...The Barclays Account is one of the best I think there is around especially for students. I was originally with Lloyds Bank and I found there customer service very poor ? They were also very inflexible. On several occasions they would charge me £10 for going £1 overdrawn. This is why when I became a student I switched to Barclays ? They have excellent personal service and their monthly statement provides a lot more info than most banks ? Their online banking service also is very useful and I have found this a great advantage especially being at university. Their free gift is also quite good ? Mobile Phone and Book Vouchers. The free Barclaycard which they provide with the account is also of great advantage especially to poor students...
