This is how internet access should be
Advantages: Fixed rate access, 24/7, £14.99 a month
Disadvantages: None at present
...I've been using the internet since January 1999, and there have been quite a lot of changes in that time. In the early days, accessing the internet was through a local rate phone number but this was still expensive for anyone using the internet for more than 15 hours per week. Other, supposedly flat-rate 24/7, deals started to arrive in 2000 but all of these suffered problems, mainly due to the ISP's cost to British Telecom. Many of these early 24/7 services are no longer around (Lineone/Quip, Redhotant) and others have had to change there service (Libertysurf, Breathe) because users had the temerity to actually use the service.
Then BT invented a special internet rate called Surftime which was supposed to make it cheaper for ISP's to offer 24/7 access, but again this was flawed. People who used the services for more than 4-5 hours...

Mobile Internet Access
Advantages: Mobile Internet access wherever you go..
Disadvantages: Good rate only when connected to 3G
...Background for the purchase
I happened to buy this Mobile 3G data Card for internet access since i had to have internet connection whenever i go to the client's place. Its difficult to get internet connection nowadays since most of the clients have their own secure wireless networks and we do not have access to their wierless networks when we are using our laptops.
Purchase process.
I had to purchase two cards, one for myself and another one for my colleague. The First purchase i made it from a Vodafone shop in Hounslow High Street, and the process was simple, they had to do the credit checks etc. and once that was through, the deal was finalized and invoiced. The Offer was, that i get the 3G data Card free when i went in for the Unlimited Plan which is 49 GBP a month. Thereby i save 49GBP (cost of the card). There are other...

BROADBAND INTERNET ACCESS
Advantages: Fast, clean, streaming downloads and browsing.
Disadvantages: You must live in an ntl serviced area.
...Having read quite a few positive comments on ntlworld free dial up internet I thought it may be worthwhile mentioning that ntl also offer Cable Modem service to customers who are able to be serviced by their Cable TV service.
Their deal is amazing.
You can choose from a number of options and can rent or buy the modem.
The deal is this.
1) Buy the cable modem at £149.99 and pay £9.99 per month for a 64k connection or £19.99 per month for a 512k connection.
2) Rent the modem for £5 per month instead of buying (ie £14.99 or £24.99 per month)
You will have to pay £25 installation charge for the cable acccess point and if you are non technical you may want to pay to have someone install an ethernet card for you if you dont have one already. The card costs approximately £20 and installation of this (not done by ntl) costs over £100...

Access to my mind!
Advantages: I can manage my life and work through Access!
Disadvantages: Its really hard to get used to, patience required!
...I have never been a fan of Microsoft Access; in fact for a while I absolutely hated it. Most people I have spoken to have thought MS Access was a waste of time.
I have recently taken on the role of ECDL tutor and ITQ assessor. I am therefore responsible for teaching the program to new learners but also assessing them on their use of IT which means I have to be pretty competent with many applications including MS Access (Database).
I started learning about databases by trying to remember the names of everything, buts it not until you really get going that you can discover and learn new things. I have just sat for over an hour tonight playing with Macros (this is basically a set of instructions that will allow you to record a task you do regularly to speed up the process) and have created a database of my weddings guests?why I hear...

Love is there on the internet
Advantages: -
Disadvantages: -
...***Forgive me if the category choice for this seems a little odd . The only other close one was Online Dating, which in my mind ties in with dating websites and suchlike, and really doesn't apply to my situation . Also, this review is probably not going to be particularly useful to anyone - it's simply me documenting my experience of an internet relationship . Please rate it as you find it, but bear in mind my category dilemma ***
I first met Phill in September last year. I'd been playing an online multiplayer game for about 3 years up to that point, when I started to get a little tired of always playing with American players - nothing against them, just the timing of activities never seemed to work for me .
So, I asked on the games forums if anyone had a UK linkshell (similar to a guild) they'd be happy for me to join, I got a reply...

Pay For No Internet Access
Advantages: see op
Disadvantages: see op
...Many many moons (at least 7 years ago, maybe longer) ago I opened an account with Compuserve. The service was excellent, they had terrific forums where I met lots of like-minded people and made lots of friends. There was also an online community "Worlds Away" where I happily wiled away the hours playing bingo with my virtual buddies.
~~~ Subscriptions ~~~
Yes this wonderful service cost you money, but back then free Internet access was a thing of the future. Because their basic package only included 5 hours before you were charged for your online time (hey I was online 5 hours a day!) I upgraded my subscription to one which was around £20 but had no limit on your online time. I can hear you wondering why I needed to spend that much time online, well that virtual bingo was very addictive! I would like to apologise for not being...
Fast Internet Access
Advantages: Free, easy to use
Disadvantages: Locks up on some systems, needs to be off for live data updates
...I have mixed feelings about Netsonic, it is designed to speed up your internet web page browsing times but does it really work?
Firstly I will explain how it operates. The program access the pages you view and downloads other linked pages behind the scenes and keeps them in cache memory. It then displays them when you click on the links. This does speed up the way in which pages are displayed.
In most instances this works just fine and is no problem, however there are some occassions where you don't want cached pages displayed. For example while using it with CIAO if you return to the home page it displays it's cached page and not the latest updated page, thus unless you switch caching off you will not see any new opinions appearing in the latest opinions list. Fortunately you can turn the cahing on and off very easily. I turn it...
Tesco Internet Access
Advantages: Quite Cheap
Disadvantages: Slow Connection
...I have just signed up to Tesco Internet. So I am going to review it!!
Having previously been with Wanadoo I decided to change to Tesco because:
- The Price - It is cheaper on Tesco, anytime being £11.99*^ whereas Wanadoo was £13.99*^
- I earn Clubcard points!
(* Not exact price, it may be but I am not exactly sure at the mo, will update soon! ^ per month!)
I went to my local Tesco and picked Up a CD. The CD is straight forward and installation is easy. It took about 15minutes to join.
The first things I did on the Web were going on to Ciao and MSN. To load the pages took a fair while. It seems that Tesco is quite slow.
Currently I am downloading a file and it is downloading at 3.4kilobytes per second. For those of you who don't know, a byte is the smallest thing on a computer, when you save something one letter...
Perfect for gaming, networking and Internet access
Advantages: Easy to use, good security features, lots of extras for thse who want to use them
Disadvantages: Not the cheapest, documentation might not be great in the event of problems
...four LAN ports which were important to me as I only like to use wireless on my mobile equipment and needed somewhere to plug in my computer and XBox. There is also a Cat5 network cable included in the package which is a nice touch.
The router is also very nicely designed, being a nice white colour with sleek rounded edges and a vertical stand that means it can fit into very small places if necessary.
Security was important to me as well since I work in IT and know how easy it is to misconfigure wireless equipment which can result in all sorts of problems, including your neighbours using your Internet connection for free. As is usual with these products everything comes turned on and with little or no security by default but I strongly recommend you look into the security features, of which there are many. Security features include...
CIAO's Internet
Advantages: Sourse of inspiration and much usefulness. An easy place to start your ciao-ing. Gets great reads.
Disadvantages: You may not eb interested in the internet, but this is where it all happens (mostly)
...Let me first make this clear; this is my opinion on the internet section on Ciao, and not the internet as a whole.
With all the time I spend on the Internet, I’d forgive you all for thinking it was my number one favourite thing in the whole big wide World. Its raining though (lots), so this year, I’ve had my first real introduction in to the ways of the web.
However, with its overall growth in popularity, all around the globe, it comes as no surprise that Ciao’s Internet section is as popular as it is.
I think (actually...I KNOW), it’s been one of my most successful areas of writing in. This is mostly because this section is where you’ll find the opinions on Ciao itself. They actually provide probably less actual help than some others, but are always an interesting read. Opinions on ‘How...
