Hard Rock Cafe
Review of Internetcafes by
vurt
Advantages: In a pub
Disadvantages: slow speeds
...The Hard Rock Cafe, located just at the bottom end of the Old Town Square has a small Internet cafe section at the rear. I'm not actually sure it is an official Hard Rock Cafe as it seems a bit Prague-standard rough but I assume it just hard for Hard Rock to sue them. The Internet Cafe is situated at the rear. Just ask the bar maid and she will wave you through. Once in there there are about 6 PCs which have just a browser installed. Access times were a little slow, around 56K modem speed, so suspect no 2Mb pipe installed. All sites are available not surprising as Prague is hardly prudish. Once finished pay the bar maid on the way out. As of 5/8/00 prices were 80Koruna for one hour (about £1.50)...

Good cafe with net facilities
Review of The International Traveller's Cafe, Barcelona by
nikeair
Advantages: Good place to meet fellow travellers
Disadvantages: You won't feel like you're exactly 'immersed' in Spanish culture!
...This is a combination of cafe, restaurant, bar and internet cafe set near the centre of Barcelona, just off 'La Rambla'. You can spot it immediately because of the numerous flags and souvenirs from around the world that make the place so characteristic.
It's mainly frequented by backpackers and other travellers, but you'll find the occasional Spaniard lurking around.
Inside you can do anything from surf the internet (they have 4 or 5 computers with access to the net at reasonable prices), have a coffee, down a tall, cooling beer or have a full-blown meal. They also do an offer of cheap canned beer to take away.
It's also a great place to meet other travellers if you're lonely in Barcelona, and the staff behind the bar are very friendly, as are the owners of the place....

STAY IN TOUCH
Review of Le Shop Internet Café by
thingywhatsit
Advantages: Keeps you in touch.
Disadvantages: Different keyboards
...I go away from home quite a lot since I have been living in France, and one of my most frequent stops is Paris.
One of the things that I miss from home is my Internet connection, but Paris is a Cosmopolitan City and offers a good range of Internet cafes. Le Shop is one of these and upon visiting for the first time, I was amazed first of all by the size of the cafe, and then by the range of services available.
The cafe is easy to find and is located within a stones throw from the Metro station at Luxemburg so is easy to get to.
You see banks of computers in rows, and think that this little cyber world is just a straightforward link to the Internet but it is more than that. They have keyboards that are QUERTY and then the AZERTI, but they go further than that. There are keyboards for all different languages as well and they really do...

Reasonable, better places around
Review of Whiteleys (London) by
CarpeDiem
Advantages: Many shops, cafes
Disadvantages: Not huge, shops not that interesting
...Whitelys is a large shopping centre in Bayswater, which is on the District and Circle lines
in West London. The development has a very friendly atmosphere and many general meeting points,
such as a fountain.
The shops are mainly books and clothes. There is a Books etc, some clothes shops and other
things such as a gadget shop and stationery shop. An internet cafe on the second floor is also
useful. In the way of eating, there is a McDonalds, a more upmarket cafe, and the internet cafe.
So not a great deal, but there are some restaurants outside the development. Another thing which
makes many people come here is the cinema, UCI Whitelys. This is quite large, but the prices are
high (£7.50 at peak times).
Outside the development there are many other shops and restaurants, most notably an Our
Price, which compensates for the lack...

The way forward
Review of easyeverything by
davysimpson
Advantages: Cheap and easy
Disadvantages: Not enough of them
...Easy has pulled it off again. They have easyjet giving me cheap flights abroad and when I get there I can use their internet cafes to write home. I have not witnessed the British versions but if they are anything like the continent these are definetly the way forward. For under a pound for at least an hour it is a lot cheaper in most cases to use the internet here thann at home. The systems are fast, the environment is comfy and safe and great places. All I can say is please spread them out more across the country because they will work. They need to be in every shopping centre for the country to be online....

Euro Travel
Review of EasyJet - EZU by
mlb1871
Advantages: Cheap, Easy Booking, Good Service
Disadvantages: Little presence in Large airports
...Easyjet know they have a good service, in addition to their airline they also have rent a cars internet cafes and pretty much anything other service that can be ordered over the internet.
Not only do they provide a good serivce, I have travelled with easy jet to Barcelona, but you have to admire the business as well. They are the first to embrace the internet E-commerce culture completely. You cannot book a seat unless you have an internet connection and this must have been a risk. But by doing this they have jumped the start on their competitors. The internet is rapidly becoming the defacto standard if you want to order anything. I order, books, music, concert tickets, holidays and electric goods over the internet. I also use if for my banking. As such I am more than happy to use a compnay which uses the internet as it main source...

The Net Doesn't Get Any Cheaper Than This
Review of Easy Everything (Manchester) by
LostWitness
Advantages: See review
Disadvantages: See review
...Internet cafes eh? Whenever I’ve visited them, they’ve always been small, expensive and not terribly interesting. Over recent years, these places have started to spring up all over the place, but good Internet or Cybercafes are hard to find – I’m afraid a few PCs and a coffee machine just don’t cut it as far as I am concerned.
Enter the “easyEverything” Internet café concept. I must confess that I am unsure which major cities boast one of these emporiums, but I have been in the Manchester outlet many times, and have been consistently impressed. The Manchester café is located on two storeys off Exchange Street in the city centre.
So what’s so special about easyEverything?
Hardware and Software
Manchester’s easyEverything café boasts a capacity of 375 PCs –...

Big Boon..But Beware!
Review of Member Advice on Internet Banking by
wiseoldowl
Advantages: Improved security
Disadvantages: Still some risks
...I have used an internet banking facility for some months. It makes bill paying, transfer of money between accounts, and checking statements very easy. It also saves me time and energy in not having to visit my bank to carry out such transactions and activities.
However, like most people, I do worry about security of information on the internet for such tasks. A few simple precautions can be taken to ease ones fears:
1.Change your account access passwords regularly.
2.Do not operate internet banking from your office or internet cafe.
3.Do not keep vast sums of money in an internet banking account.
4.Visit your on-line bank accounts every few days and check your
account statements to ensure that there are no spurious items.
5.Ensure your on-line bank has encryptation of transmissions...look
for the relevant symbols on your screen...

Average Service, though Pricey
Review of McNulty´s Internet Café (Newcastle) by
ReiKo
Advantages: Gorgeous decor, fairly helpful staff
Disadvantages: Expensive; esp. if you are new to all this technology. Find internet access elsewhere: home/friends/college/school/university
...Being a former employee I will do my best to be objective. The cafe charges £4 per 1/2 hour, or £7 per hour. There are discounts for members; one years' membership fee is £15. (Prices may have changed recently).
The place is very well decorated and quite clean (I spent ages cleaning the spaces between each key on the keyboards!). The help desk staff is approachable so if you have a problem no matter how small you'll be able to get help with a smile.
The cafe serves hot drinks (hot chocolate with cream and cappacinos are the greatest so try it!) and cold drinks (try the milkshakes... heavenly!). Unfortunately they no longer did hot food, just sandwiches and snacks. Cakes are delicious and home-made.
The computers are quite fast and have a range of programs and games on them. I'm not sure what they have these days, but when I...

A Haven for Amateur Authors
Review of thoughtcafe.co.uk by
kafooey
Advantages: Great content, design and community atmosphere
Disadvantages: I'll never get any work done now...
...The tagline on the front page of the Thought Cafe website reads "a quiet corner of the internet for amateur writers to meet, chat, publish their writing and give and receive feedback" - and by and large it is true.
Although appearing to be devoid of any sponsorship or advertising, Thought Cafe is a well crafted site providing amateur authors the facility to showcase their work, and invite comment.
The site requires authors to register (for free), which allows them to add their own writings into the site. The amassed archives of writings already submitted by other authors are collected together by category, with all genres allowed for.
Along with the basic author details, members are encouraged to write a short biographical summary of themselves. The author page also lists a bibliography of the author's work on the site linking through...
