Inverness as a place to visit
Advantages: Plenty activities, good nightlife at weekends, safe, scenic,
Disadvantages: weekday evening entertainment can be a bit poor,
...well you may think i will be biased about inverness due to my living here for my (i would say entire life but take a couple of years out where i lived in other places like aberdeen, tain and the like) life. however i have been to most major cities in the uk along with plenty of small villages and towns too. i will give you as accurate a description and opinion as i possibly can on the town/city (as it is now).
Inverness is currently undergoing a major re-development to its city centre with new wider paths being laid and road system being turned upside down, shaken around a bit and re structured aparently in an effort to reduce traffic and congestion. To be honest the mess is kept to a minimum and the noise level seems reasonably low throughout this work and the finished product does actually look very pleasing to the eye...

Luxurious Inverness
Advantages: Beautiful Hotel, Fantastic View
Disadvantages: Very Expensive, Location
...The Culloden House Hotel is located just outside Inverness near Culloden Battlefield. We spent a night in the hotel at the end of September.
We stayed in one of the Junior Garden Suites. The suite was gorgeous and had two rooms; both the bedroom and the lounge had beautiful views of the grounds.
The rooms were large and bright with tasteful decor. The bathroom was enormous and beautifully done in marble. I usually have trouble with hotel beds, but our bed was not too soft and extremely comfortable! I didn't want to leave!
The staff is polite, accommodating and very helpful. Unfortunately, since the stay was so short we didn't get the chance to eat in the restaurant - which by all accounts is worth a trip up to Inverness in itself! Therefore, I cannot honestly rate the food as excellent as I didn't try it.
The only...

Pizza Hut, Inverness
Advantages: Very good value
Disadvantages: Poor service
...There are a few pizza places in Inverness but this is the only one that I take my 5-year old son into as the selection for kids is far better than the others.
When you enter Pizza Hut you normally have to wait for a moment to be shown to a seat and then you are left for a few minutes to decide what you want.
The selection on the menu is fab - a wide range of starters and pizzas and, if you don't want pizzas, there are pasta dishes. Pizza come in deep pan or traditional and you can get ones to share as well as individual ones. There are also various toppings that you can have, as well as side dishes.
Kids menu is good - not just pizzas on it, my son absolutely loves the chicken goujons and potato wedges.
There are also a wide selection of drinks, sweets and the ice cream factory.
What I love about Pizza Hut is that...

The place to stay when visiting Inverness.
Advantages: Fantastic standard in both the rooms and the restaurant.
Disadvantages: Lack of leisure facilities.
...When my wife was offered a job in Inverness the company offered the whole family a weekend trip for the second interview.
So my wife, 8 month daughter and I drove from just outside Edinburgh up to Inverness. When approaching Inverness from the South, on the A9 the hotel is perfectly signposted and cannot be missed.
As you drive into the car park you would be forgiven for thinking that the hotel itself does not look anything special. Trust me when I say that it is the outside, and outside of the building only, that will make you think this.
We had booked over the phone and when we went to check in something had gone wrong and there was no record of our booking, the start of a bad experience you might think. No, the staff dealt with it, without any fuss or hassle. Another room was booked, we sat and waited in the beautiful...

Inverness stay at Maple Court Hotel
Advantages: good view and food
Disadvantages: none
...We stayed at the Maple Court for two nights at the end of October
The location was fantastic - a nice 5-10 minute walk from downtown Inverness, along the river Ness. Lots of great restaurants within walking distance
The room is large, and very clean. The furnishings are a bit cheap, and the bed is just okay. Sheets and towels were clean and average. The bathroom was very clean.
The staff were great, and the morning breakfast was great. The chef will make you whatever you\'d like for breakfast.
The food was wonderful with brilliant portions. Everything was fresh and prepared beautifully. The bacon and egg scrambles and salmon crepes were terrific.
Gardens and river setting is just out of this world.
I would stay there again....

Inverness is the biz
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
...One of the fastest growing towns in Europe, Inverness is regarded as being the 'Capital of the Highlands'. For Scottish people Inverness makes a welcome change from the big cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh. For other visitors Inverness makes an excellent base from which to explore the 'real' Scotland. The real beauty of Inverness lies in the fact that the town services nearly the whole of the Highlands. The town itself is relatively small, which adds to its overall charm. The great thing is that although the town is quite small the huge catchment area means that the range of services available is staggering. There are very few places that have so much facilities on offer within such a small area. Going out for a drink in Inverness is not an experience to be missed. Many of the pubs attract a starnge mixture of clientel. You can find young...

What's the story In..verness
Advantages: Shops and scenery
Disadvantages: Need a car to get to most scenic places
...I have lived in Inverness all my life and I don't think I would live anywhere else.
Years ago Inverness was probably a remote place and in the wilderness a bit. Nowadays it's different. There are over 60,000 people living here, and it has been classed as one of the fastest growing places in Britain. There are good rail, bus and plane networks. The airport is small but there are daily flights to and from London, Birmingham and other British cities, as well as flights going to and from some foreign countries.
In Inverness itself there are many restaurants - one of which was featured on a Gordon Ramsay show last year. There are a variety of restaurants here - Italian, Chinese, Indian, as well as British food. There are also a number of hotels.
There are a wide range of shops in Inverness - when I was young the nearest M&S was...

Let Them Eat Cake
Advantages: the cakes
Disadvantages: waitress a bit cold
...When I was in Inverness recently I wanted to find somewhere to have a lunch for a reasonable price in nice relaxed surroundings without going to a chain restaurant but it is not always easy to find somewhere to eat in a city you are not familiar with. Luckily my friend had eaten in Girvans once before and said it was good so we headed there under her direction, it is a restaurant and patisserie in Stephens Brae just a few minutes walk from the railway station and main shopping area so was easy to find.
We were greeted by a French waitress after a while of waiting round by the door and shown to a table, Girvans is nicely decorated with funky coloured walls and wooden tables and chairs making it feel modern, homely and welcoming. I noticed there were high chairs available so kids are obviously welcome but we were the only people...

Balti Towers!!
Advantages: Excellent Food, Exemplary Service, Good Value.
Disadvantages: Steep Stairs to Access.
...Background
The Rajah is the longest established Indian restaurant in Inverness - it first opened its doors to the Highland people way back in 1982.
Where Is It?
Deep underground, only accessible from a secret passage?.well not quite, but it is just off a small lane at the back of the Post Office, down a flight of stairs below street level. It is slap-bang in the city centre though and handy for the taxi rank, not far from the bus and train station. There is on-street parking close- by too, or you could do what we did and get my Dad to drop you off?
The Restaurant
There is a small lounge bar area, where you can wait for your table and have a drink. It is also used as a waiting area for those collecting their takeaway meals (so you don't have to fight your way past them to get in the door...
