Inverness as a place to visit

Advantages: Plenty activities, good nightlife at weekends, safe, scenic,
Disadvantages: weekday evening entertainment can be a bit poor,

...of inverness itself. things like Paintballing to quadbiking, ski-ing/snowboarding to fishing, hill climbing to cycling and many more. It tends to offer a lot for the energetic outdoors type and be not as great for those who like to club every night. But still if you were here for a week you probably would not get bored. Public Transport is well accesible in inverness with buses running from 5 or 6 am til around 1 am in the city and buses to and from most of the highlands etc running on a regular basis too. Taxis are never far away with a large majority available all the time. Taxi fares are well priced and most companies will offer tours at fixed prices for parties of any size. Taxi's run 24/7 and there is around 5 or 6 different companies. Accomodation for visiting inverness is a hit or a miss to be honest, there is a vast amount of b...

Luxurious Inverness

Advantages: Beautiful Hotel, Fantastic View
Disadvantages: Very Expensive, Location

...The Culloden House Hotel is located just outside Inverness near Culloden Battlefield. We spent a night in the hotel at the end of September. We stayed in one of the Junior Garden Suites. The suite was gorgeous and had two rooms; both the bedroom and the lounge had beautiful views of the grounds. The rooms were large and bright with tasteful decor. The bathroom was enormous and beautifully done in marble. I usually have trouble with hotel beds, but our bed was not too soft and extremely comfortable! I didn't want to leave! The staff is polite, accommodating and very helpful. Unfortunately, since the stay was so short we didn't get the chance to eat in the restaurant - which by all accounts is worth a trip up to Inverness in itself! Therefore, I cannot honestly rate the food as excellent as I didn't try it. The only...

Highlander sequel fails to wow

Advantages: Good handling of a mediochre script
Disadvantages: Script and constant darkness

...Highlander II: The Quickening is the 1991 sequel to the 1986 film Highlander, which pitted immortal Connor MacLeod against an evil immortal at an event known as the Gathering. Director Russell Mulcahy returns for the sequel, as does Christopher Lambert as MacLeod. The film was less successful than the first, with a rather dubious and other-worldly plot and a low level of special effects reducing it to a more cult status than a commercial success. Follwing the events of Highlander, Connor MacLeod (Lambert) joins forces with scientists to protect a dying ozone. With much of the world unprotected against the sun, they construct a shield, which protects the planet, but has the side effect of causing eternal night. Years on, in 2024, MacLeod is visited in a vision by his old friend Ramirez (Connery) and he sees the evil of General Katana...

HAVING A FLING IN THE HIGHLANDS....

Advantages: A GREAT READ SET IN A GREAT LOCATION.
Disadvantages: NONE

...Katie Fforde Highland Fling Published by Arrow Books I can actually claim to have every book Katie Fforde has ever had published. Which is quite a feat for me! I like her style, I like her humour, and I like her characters, which means in turn that I like every book she publishes, and what is more, I know I'm going to like it before I even buy it! Her stories aren't deeply philosophical, her characters are no more or less complicated than you or I, but there's just something about they way they pull you in, with the ease of reading and the simplicity and everyday-lifeness of them that means you pick them up and can't put them down again! Highland Fling was the first Katie Fforde novel I read, though it is actually the 8th novel in a growing list of about 12, and I have to say it totally captivated me. It's very fanciful, but...

Cameron Highlands Guide

Advantages: Cool weather, nice fresh greens and tasty foods
Disadvantages: None

...Cameron Highlands is a highland region located east of Ipoh state. It is 1500m above sea level and has a cool climate, temperatures not rising above 25 degrees and not falling below 12 degrees year-round. I went to Cameron Highlands with my parents on Monday, the 8th. We stayed at Hotel Equatorial, which is one of the best hotels in Cameron. We visited many key attractions, including the strawberry farm, rose gardens, vegetable farms, tea plantations, bee farms, cactus farms and many more. At the entrance of Equatorial Hotel, to your left, you will go down to Kea Farm, where many stalls lie in. This farm is by far, the most crowded and popular among locals and tourists. However, the traffic there is very messy and you have to be very careful. In Kea Farm, I would recommend a stall selling deep-fried oyster mushrooms, sweet potatoes...

Highlander - the DVD

Advantages: A classic film with cult status
Disadvantages: Not many extras here.

...Highlander is one of those films that caught the audience unawares when it first came out. It had very little in the way of publicity, but the strong story and great 'presence' of the film soon spread the word that this was one movie to go and watch. The plot is pretty simple, a Scottish warrior of the MacLeod clan in 1536 is fighting another clan and is wounded in battle. He realizes that he is different from everyone else, however, when his near fatal wounds heal up completely and it makes everyone else afraid. He meets a strange man (Connery) who explains that MacLeod is an immortal and cannot die. It transpires that the immortals have fought each other through time and he has to train to fight to the death (which, for an immortal, means decapitation with a special sword) Refusing this, he hides out. The audience next join him...

A HEARTY HIGHLAND SOUP

Advantages: A GREAT SOUP FOR WHEN YOU'RE TIRED OR COLD, FULL OF FLAVOUR AND GOODNESS.
Disadvantages: I COULD EAT THIS TILL THE COWS COME HOME

...taste one, they are just that. The taste of lamb and soft, sweet carrot explodes in my mouth, and the next mouthful does the same - creamy potato, soft flavoursome onions and bits of lamb, tender and melt in the mouth. Everything in the soup is cooked to perfection, no hard bits to chew on, no squidgy bits to swallow fast. With pearl barley and leeks and cabbage to add texture and yet more flavour, this is surely a soup to be reckoned with! It has a country aroma that brings to your mind a long, harsh winter in the Highlands, with snow up to the letter box, a patchwork quilt about your knees, a gale roaring over the rooftops and a fire crackling bright and warm in the grate. What left to perfect the scene? A bowl of Baxters Scotch Broth, that's all! *****Ingredients***** Water, Pearl Barley, Carrots, Potatoes, Onions...

The Highlander, Will he be the only one?

Advantages: cracking good fight scenes
Disadvantages: few to many unexplained events

...The Highlander is as the title states, a story about a Scottish Highlander. Connor MacCleod of the Clan MacCleod superbly played by Christopher Lambert. All though Lambert does do a great job, playing the sword swinging Scots man; I think his accent for a 16th century Highlander needed to be a lot stronger and more convincing. The same is really to be said about 'Sean Connery's' Spanish accent as the part of Conner's friend and potential adversary Ramirez We find Connor sitting watching an ice hockey match in America at Madison Square Gardens. As violence erupts on the pitch Connors mind wanders back some 500years to where it all began During a Clan battle Connor is fatally wounded, and taken back to his town to die, but as morning breaks, Connor lives! To him, a joyess occasion, but friends and family see it as the act...

Inverness is the biz

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

...One of the fastest growing towns in Europe, Inverness is regarded as being the 'Capital of the Highlands'. For Scottish people Inverness makes a welcome change from the big cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh. For other visitors Inverness makes an excellent base from which to explore the 'real' Scotland. The real beauty of Inverness lies in the fact that the town services nearly the whole of the Highlands. The town itself is relatively small, which adds to its overall charm. The great thing is that although the town is quite small the huge catchment area means that the range of services available is staggering. There are very few places that have so much facilities on offer within such a small area. Going out for a drink in Inverness is not an experience to be missed. Many of the pubs attract a starnge mixture of clientel. You can find young...
