Reviews of iomega 1tb
Terrible Product
Review of Iomega StorCenter Pro NAS 150d/1TB by
ed207
Advantages: Excellent Features
Disadvantages: Fatally Flawed Software
...This unit is incredibly enticing. Most units, although 1TB, only allow 0,1 RAID. This means that in RAID 1 (mirror mode) you can only get 500 Gigs.
This Iomega unit allows you get 750 Gigs in RAID 5 since it has 4 drives. More cost effective storage space!
It also features:
* Linux based OS
* Flexible user and group based security,
* Above average performance with respect to RAID, responsiveness, and transfer speeds.
* Gigabit ethernet as well as 802.11G wireless
* 2 USB ports to attach additional storage
* 4 drive bays to upgrade and replace drives
* RAID 5 !. This is a prominent feature that sets it in a unique category among entry level NAS.
* A very well built enclosure. All metal, fairly thick at that, as well as very sturdy enclosure for the HD's that uses screws. Nothing plastic of flimsy here.
All very very good features...

Not bad for 1TB.
Review of Iomega Desktop Hard Drive Value Series Hard drive 1 TB by
thewhitewolf
Advantages: 1 Terrabyte
Disadvantages: not portable - but who cares
...This is a bargain that i couldn't pass up without buying. 1TB should keep me going for several years and more.
I bought this hard drive for £101 and it has been a pleasure to use. It's a doddle to set up and install and the fast rate of transfer makes file sharing very efficient and easy.
Design
The portable hard drive comes in an attractive silver case that has USB2 and FireWire 400 ports. It is a desktop drive and cant really be moved around due to its size.
Installation
The instructions were easy to follow and it installed by windows wizard as soon as i plugged it in, so within 20 minutes i was backing up my files.
Performance
Performance is good for a portable hard disk, and there was no real difference in speed between the two interfaces. T
Features
It doesn't ship with backup software, just file-synchronisation software...

I love it!
Review of Iomega Zip 250 MB USB Powered by
pehchiong
Advantages: Fast data transfer
Disadvantages: Pricy device
...I am using the Iomega Zip 250 via USB for my work and I really like this storage device compared to the earlier one, the 100 MB Zip which I find it insufficient at times.
The outlook of this portable device is sleek and the blue transparent case gives it some class of its own. It gives fast connection over USB and I have no problems transferring data from my harddisk to the drive.
In fact, I could also played music from the zip disc. This storage device is handy if you are planning to move large files or data from one computer to another which is not physically connected at all.
I rate the Iomega Zip 250 as one of the best portable storage device that Iomega has ever designed....

Don't Bother
Review of Iomega Zip 750MB FireWire Starter Kit by
DCB01
Advantages: secure, robust, fairly fast
Disadvantages: poor customer service
...Wow I thought after years of using a 100MB parallel port drive I thought I would take the plunge and up grade to the 750MB firewire port, after all it was only being used for video editing. Best price found was on Amazon so after consultation with them (Iomega) about the free mains adaptor I ordered the drive.
Big mistake!
After searching the web for a good deal on 750 media discs I noticed that Iomega were doing it for £30 Inc del. No problem I thought, so paid by credit card and noticed that it could only be sent to address on card which is fine if you are a business or at home all day. Anyhow the inevitable happened and a few days latter arrived home to find non del card on mat. Courier DHL were of no help even giving me wrong info regarding times of opening and worse still not knowing number of other depot after I volunteered...

LaCie 1 TB Big Disk Hard Drive
Review of LaCie Big Disk Hard drive 1 TB by
ilaskey
Advantages: Capacity, looks, decent manual, cheap
Disadvantages: A bit slow, a lot to lose in one go
...With people starting to amass more and more data on their PCs, the old methods of backup such as tape or CD & DVD are becoming woefully inadequate. As a result, by far the most cost efficient method for either storing data or backing it up is the external hard drive.
That said, 1TB or 1 Terrabyte is a crazy amount of space and the sort of storage that would have kept a multinational company ticking over nicely ten years ago.
The LaCie (pronounced Lassie, like the dog) 1TB unit is a reasonably basic device that only has a USB2 (although USB1 is supported) interface and comes with a suitable lead, external power supply and software CD. It can work with both PCs and Macs although by default it's formatted for PC use so Mac users will need to reformat it first but that's no hardship really.
On first opening the box, it looks really good...

Excellent...but choose software carefully
Review of Iomega Zip CD650 by
Scoobydoo
Advantages: Reliable, good value
Disadvantages: There are cheaper models availble
...I've had my 4x Iomega ZipCD650 for 6 months now, and I've generally been pleased with it. The build quality seems excellent, probably exceeding some budget models. However, the big question with any CD Writer is "how many CDs will it waste?".
My answer with my Iomega has been "it depends". It seems that to get the best performance you should try different CD Writing software as depending on your CD Writer, computer, and operating system performance varies greatly. I found Adaptec Easy CD 3.5 (supplied) to be o.k. but a bit dodgy, Adaptec 4 Deluxe to be significantly better, and Nero to be the most reliable of all (although its interface isn't as user-friendly perhaps). This said, I expect the same variability applies to all CD-RWs.
Overall though, it has been a good buy as I have burned perhaps 200 CDs, with only about 10 failures...

Iadmire Iomega
Review of Iomega ZIP 100 MB by
r1
Advantages: Sufficient storage, handy
Disadvantages: disks a bit expensive?
...The ZIP 100Mb may well be a bit dated but certainly has served me well in the 3 years I’ve had it. The lovely drive has been a vital part of my computer, without it I wouldn't be able to move from one PC to the next so freely; it’s just so convenient. Sure there are a lot of products out there that have higher capacities etc. But the ZIP is ideal for home or small business users needing to transport files or even small applications! The Internal ZIP is a bit tricky to install if you do not have knowledge of fitting such drives, but it's actual installation on the computer's hard drive is non-existent. You just plug and play! To date, it would be good to get one of these for a cheaper second hand price, as it is somewhat yesterdays technology, but full credit to Iomega's veteran drive, it does me proud....

Iomega zip very useful and easy
Review of Iomega ZIP 100 MB by
joel56
Advantages: easy, quickly, and useful
Disadvantages: diskette expensive
...I use an external ZIP 100 Mo USB, it is a fast and reliable solution, as well for the backup.
This operation is tiresome with the tapes whose reading is with sequential access, and I must say for my needs an unsuited choice.
The reader Zip of Iomega proves to be of great utility.
I have chosen the reader Zip USB 100Mo.
a breakdown of hard disk, one does not need large thing, a simple variation of intensity of current can damage your hard disk.
All those which have used data processing for a few years were confronted with the need for formatting (to erase all the data) hard disk; as much to be careful.
I had personally many problems on my hard disk (virus in particular)a storage medium which is very well for a use, the more so as the data bases type textual file support a very high compression ratio of about 90%.
You can...

Excellent drive, good value
Review of Iomega Zip 250 MB USB Powered by
Grendel
Advantages: Mass storage for a good price
Disadvantages: Transfer of files needs a portable or second drive on the target computer
...Everyone wants more drivespace. Files are getting bigger as are applications. It becomes increasingly more difficult to transfer files from one computer to another.
A zip drive can help out.
The 250M drive is slightly bigger than the zipdisk itself.
The USB connection is considerable faster than a parallel connection. In a number of tests I read about transfer rates of 900kb/s.
Another point to mention is the downward compatibility with 100Mb zipdisks (the older version). The 250Mb drive can read these disks with ease, though writing is impossible. Also the zipdrive is capable of working under Windows XX and the Macintosh operating systems.
Hopefully Iomega will work on a Linux version....
