IOMEGA 500GB EXTERNAL USB HARD DRIVE
Review of Iomega Desktop Hard Drive Value Series Hard drive 500 GB by
mrjwood
Advantages: Easy installation, looks good, ease of use
Disadvantages: None found
...I've bought two of these drives now and am very impressed. On opening the box you'll find the following: The drive itself, power supply, USB cable and an instruction leaflet.
The drive feels solid and well built, although the aluminium case does have some sharp edges near the front where it joins the plastic bezel.
The drive comes formatted to FAT32, but this is easily changed to NTFS.
Being a curious sort, I took one apart to find out the manufacturer of the actual drive inside and was happy to find a Seagate Barracuda, not the bottom of the range drive I was expecting!
Installation under Windows XP/Vista is a doddle, just plug in the power cable, plug in the USB cable, switch it on and it's automatically detected and ready to go.
In use, both drives have proved very reliable, and although transfer speeds over USB 2...

Small but reliable storage.
Review of Iomega ZIP 100 MB by
andyhill243
Advantages: Reliable widely used format
Disadvantages: Slow
...I've been using ZIP drives for a few years now, internal & external.
I'm currently running and external parallel port version on an NT4.0 Server. The drive doesn't get a lot of use but is sometimes used for customers to send data. (It's surprising how much zipped data you can get into 100Mb!!)
The drive is slow but reliable, one bad side effect is that so much processor power is used when the drive is being accessed it effectively makes the machine un-usable for anything else.
The drive may be a bit old fashioned and small in capacity, but a lot of people use them, and it is a useful means of exchanging data. We only keep it for compatibility purposes with some of our customers, but wouldn't be without it!...

Iomega zip very useful and easy
Review of Iomega ZIP 100 MB by
joel56
Advantages: easy, quickly, and useful
Disadvantages: diskette expensive
...starting from the software carry out a recording on another support that the hard disk.
It is with you to make it handling record the file on the external disc.
This reader Zip Ioméga is compatible on PC and Macintosh, indeed the iMac has not a floppy drive.
This reader Zip USB is transparent of blue color. With the back, one finds a connector USB.
The utilities hardly changed, but it is very significant that you use the correct US pilots of the D-CRom.Readers ZIP comprise themselves a rather effective system of physical locking which makes it possible to protect the backups by password: the majority of the software of filing include this possibility.
With this reader, I can move my files in various sites and on several computers. I can share and gather files with friends.
The Zip reader does not allow to read diskettes, but it became...

Best choice you can make
Review of Iomega Zip 250 MB USB Powered by
zedix
Advantages: USB, easy in operation, good design
Disadvantages: expensive media
...This drive has USB interface which makes it easy to intall and makes it truly external drive which you can take from one computer to another just in minutes. I welcomed the fact that now it is 40% smaller and takes the latests 250 MB disks. The MB/price ratio is much better in this case that of a 100 MB media. The drive comes with easy to install software which is full of usefull features including backing up facility which can be made almost automatically. The design of the drive is modern and it makes your desk to look really pleasing. The manual was mainly in digital format on CD-Rom which was well-written. I would definetely suggest this drive as it is future proof and good value for money....

Slow a bit cumbersome but effective.
Review of Iomega Ditto Easy 800 400 MB 800 MB by
andyhill243
Advantages: Fairly reliable easy to use software
Disadvantages: Slow, does fail sometimes
...I've used a ditto Easy 800 (external parellel version) for about 4 years now, it's currenly installed on an NT 4.0 Server (Which is also my desktop machine). It's set to do a scheduled backup of our network each night.
It's pretty reliable although sometimes if the machine hasn't been rebooted for a while the backup will sometimes fail, either with or without an error message. (But I'm not sure if this is an Iomega problem or a Windows problem).
I have only had a couple of problems with tapes breaking or going bad, but they are a few years old!
Speed is a bit of an issue, doesn't matter for backups, 'cos they're unattended, but a bit frustrating when you need to d a restore.
Overall not a bad drive, particularly as I can't afford a DAT drive....

Iomega Zip - Very Reliable how would I live without it?
Review of Iomega ZIP 100 MB by
eep362
Advantages: 70 times as much storage as a floppy disk, use unlimited ammount of disks, access files on more than one computer, don't lose your work on rebuild.
Disadvantages: Not all computers have zip drives, disks cost around £7 each.
...I, not long ago had the problem many people face of a Hard Drive that just wasn't big enough. At school there were a few Iomega Zip 100 Parallel Drives, as I also needed to use my computer for school work it was the best choice.
Not only is it helpful because of space but also if you want to use a different PC (e.g. a laptop or other computer), it means that all your files are avalible to you. It also helps alot if you need to rebuild your computer, formating your disk doesn't effect your files and if needed you can back up your files.
I choose the parallel external version because I knew I might want to use it on different computers and not all of them have scsi or USB, although USB was not avalible when I brought mine.
I use one disk continuasly and have done for around a year, it has all my school work and my website on and I have...

Quality, Affordable Back-Up Hard Drive
Review of Iomega HDD External Desktop Hard Drive 320 GB by
robert232
Advantages: Very Fast, Efficient, Stylish, Easy Installation
Disadvantages: Only a minor point the 1m usb cable
...I needed a fast and efficient external hard drive for doing full and incremental backups of my networked computer systems. I did a bit of research first before deciding on this Iomega product. It costs £58.95 from ebuyer with £10 (£48.95)off for using google checkout and at only 18p per GB you cant get much better than that at the moment. The Iomega drive comes in a very classy and stylish silver/aluminium casing which you can mount on the included stand or lay flat on your computer desk. Included in the box is a usb cable and a power adaptor and an instruction manual. It is usb 2.0 compatible which means that it has a raw data transfer rate of 480Mbps.It is also backward compatible with usb 1.1 which has a maximum transfer rate of 12Mbits/second. Spindle speed of this drive is 7500rpm.Only negative point is the usb cable could be a bit...

good drive
Review of Iomega ZIP 100 MB by
guiam888
Advantages: internal drive
Disadvantages: can't say, really.
...I've had this drive for several years in an old computer, and when I bought a newer model I had it installed in that one. Had a life of 5-6 years , till it clicked to its death.
Very useful, so I decided to buy an external zip drive after that.
Fast transfer rate, very reliable, I still have the disks, which are still in excellent condition. The software I didn't use it so much, but there was a package with utilities and tools and drivers. I tried downloading and upgrade at the time, but I thought the original software was ok.
Main is advantage is that, being internal, it doesn't take up space on your desk. Good for backing up when a CD burner is not present (in older computers, for example)....

An XBOX or what?
Review of Iomega Hard drive 500 GB by
thewhitewolf
Advantages: Love the look.
Disadvantages: n/a
...This looks so much like a games console that maybe that was what iomega were trying to build.
A better looking model from Iomega than the other 500 GB model, this is a safe solid bet for a hard drive that won't let you down. In testing it performed well and did not overheat or become slow due to the rate of transfer.
Design
The portable hard drive comes in an attractive black case that has USB2 and FireWire 400 ports. It reminds me of an xbox and is certainly cool to look at. It's about 20 cms long and 10 in depth and weighs a fair bit. It is a desktop drive and can't really be moved around due to its size.
Installation
The instructions were easy to follow and it installed by windows wizard as soon as i plugged it in, so within 10 minutes i was backing up my files.
Performance
Performance is good for a portable hard disk...

300GB: What will you do with it?
Review of Iomega Desktop Silver Series Hard Drive 300GB 3.5” USB 2.0 by
PriyanPhoenix
Advantages: Sleek, quiet, ability to automate backups when files are modified
Disadvantages: Desk space: cannot stand vertically
...Run out of hard drive space and need a quick external fix, or simply want an easy way of backing up your data? For either purpose the Iomega Desktop Silver Series Hard Drive does the job, available in variety of sizes.
APPEARANCE
Its sleek silver casing is visually pleasing in a subtle way, not relying on glowing lights like many other external drives at similar prices. It does not draw attention to itself, with two simple green lights at the front, one to display power and one for hard drive access.
It is slimmer than expected for a 3.5" drive but it is also surprisingly long. Its chief drawback is the lack of a vertical standing position which can be a real space-saver on cluttered desks. However the flat position is probably better/safer for external drives where possible. The branding is a simple, small Iomega logo on the top...
