Omega Iomega I love you
Review of Iomega MiniMax Desktop Hard Drive Hard drive 250 GB by
Kingkarliii
Advantages: HaLoads of storage space
Disadvantages: Annoying blue light
...I have had my PC for two years now and just recently I managed to fill my 80 GB hard drive up with rubbish. There was so much rubbish on it the hard drive was having problems reading the data. It was so full that I didn't even have enough free space to do a defragmentation of the drive. Anyhow with my birthday looming just around the corner my girlfriend said that I could have a new hard drive as an early present. I only wanted a 100 GB hard drive but after I had had a browse around I discovered that I could get the Iomega 250 GB external hard drive for the same price.
The hard drive itself is silver and has a clear blue strip across the front. The Iomega logo is clearly embossed on the top and underneath there is four rubber feet. There is also two vents one each side to draw in cool air.
Specifications:
USB 2.0 Transfer Rate: 400...

Great product, easy to use, does the job.
Review of Iomega HDD External Desktop Hard Drive 250 GB by
mkdon
Advantages: Very good quality and design, both USB and Firewire interfaces.
Disadvantages: A bit expensive, manual could be better.
...I have been a fan of Iomega and its products for a long time, since the good old days of the zip drives. They are a good company, they create quality products but most of all they have a very descent customer service.
Naturally when I was looking for an external hard drive, Iomega was on of the first companies I looked at and finally I bought this 250GB hard drive. And it didn't let me down...
The big advantage of a portable hard drive is obviously that you can take it with you to work or a friend’s house and transfer large amounts of data very easily. The device is automatically recognized by Windows 2000/XP and no drivers or installation are required. It will be displayed as a normal hard drive in “My Computer” and you can easily copy files using drag and drop as you would with any other hard disk on your PC. The data transfer speed...

IOMEGA 500GB EXTERNAL USB HARD DRIVE
Review of Iomega Desktop Hard Drive Value Series Hard drive 500 GB by
mrjwood
Advantages: Easy installation, looks good, ease of use
Disadvantages: None found
...I've bought two of these drives now and am very impressed. On opening the box you'll find the following: The drive itself, power supply, USB cable and an instruction leaflet.
The drive feels solid and well built, although the aluminium case does have some sharp edges near the front where it joins the plastic bezel.
The drive comes formatted to FAT32, but this is easily changed to NTFS.
Being a curious sort, I took one apart to find out the manufacturer of the actual drive inside and was happy to find a Seagate Barracuda, not the bottom of the range drive I was expecting!
Installation under Windows XP/Vista is a doddle, just plug in the power cable, plug in the USB cable, switch it on and it's automatically detected and ready to go.
In use, both drives have proved very reliable, and although transfer speeds over USB 2...

An XBOX or what?
Review of Iomega Hard drive 500 GB by
thewhitewolf
Advantages: Love the look.
Disadvantages: n/a
...This looks so much like a games console that maybe that was what iomega were trying to build.
A better looking model from Iomega than the other 500 GB model, this is a safe solid bet for a hard drive that won't let you down. In testing it performed well and did not overheat or become slow due to the rate of transfer.
Design
The portable hard drive comes in an attractive black case that has USB2 and FireWire 400 ports. It reminds me of an xbox and is certainly cool to look at. It's about 20 cms long and 10 in depth and weighs a fair bit. It is a desktop drive and can't really be moved around due to its size.
Installation
The instructions were easy to follow and it installed by windows wizard as soon as i plugged it in, so within 10 minutes i was backing up my files.
Performance
Performance is good for a portable hard disk...

The Silver Surfer of space.
Review of Iomega Portable Hard Drive Silver Series Hard drive 120 GB by
thewhitewolf
Advantages: compact and easy to move
Disadvantages: competition is better
...I seem to go through hard drives like a hot knife through butter, so it was no wonder that a warning appeared about low space left on my computer. Therefore i decided to review different hard drives offered by various companies before deciding which to purchase.
Now i did not buy this Iomega, but only because i found a cheaper western digital passport with twice the gb offered. I found this to be a great performer as i was allowed to test it.
Design
The portable hard drive comes in an attractive silver and white case that has USB2 and FireWire 400 ports. It is a fully functional travel companion and easily fits into a rucksack or laptop bag. This is feasable because it weighs relatively little and is easy to handle.
Installation
The instructions were easy to follow and it installed by windows wizard as soon as i plugged it in, so...

Quality, Affordable Back-Up Hard Drive
Review of Iomega HDD External Desktop Hard Drive 320 GB by
robert232
Advantages: Very Fast, Efficient, Stylish, Easy Installation
Disadvantages: Only a minor point the 1m usb cable
...I needed a fast and efficient external hard drive for doing full and incremental backups of my networked computer systems. I did a bit of research first before deciding on this Iomega product. It costs £58.95 from ebuyer with £10 (£48.95)off for using google checkout and at only 18p per GB you cant get much better than that at the moment. The Iomega drive comes in a very classy and stylish silver/aluminium casing which you can mount on the included stand or lay flat on your computer desk. Included in the box is a usb cable and a power adaptor and an instruction manual. It is usb 2.0 compatible which means that it has a raw data transfer rate of 480Mbps.It is also backward compatible with usb 1.1 which has a maximum transfer rate of 12Mbits/second. Spindle speed of this drive is 7500rpm.Only negative point is the usb cable could be a bit...

An alternative to pen flash drives
Review of Iomega Micro Mini Hard Drive Hard drive 8 GB by
AdamHonek
Advantages: Elegant looks, possibly more durable than flash drives
Disadvantages: Somewhat expensive, slower than may modern flash drives
...This is an alternative to carrying a flash drive around with you as it uses a small Seagate 1 inch hard drive with a 3600rpm 2MB specification.
Compared to a flash drive, especially the latest ones available, it should last longer so long as you don't throw it around and damage the mechanics inside. Flash drives die after X thousand read/write operations. It being a small hard drive, it isn't as fast copying/reading files. 8GB nowadays can be easily had for dogs money so this isn't a cheap alternative. For some this may appear more elegant than a pen drive (you decide!).
Installation is dead easy, just pop it in if you're using Windows XP or newer and it will detect a new USB device.
Build quality is high up and so seems to be durability too....

Peerless?
Review of Iomega Peerless Peerless drive 20 GB by
raymie
Advantages: Size speed portable
Disadvantages: plastic expensive
...Iomega released a new device a mid-end 2001. This is a USB or Firewire removable harddisk.
The version I have is a USB one with a 20GB disk supplied as standard. There is also a firewire version and smaller disk sizes available.
All in all the product behaves as I would expect. It is not as fast as a fixed hard disk, but is fine for general use.
The unit comes in two components, the disk itself (and you could buy additional ones) and a cradle (the bit which is either USB or Firewire).
The harddisk seems ok but being plastic cased I would not want to have it bashed around much, a fairly thick case is provided however for the disk itself (the disk is about 3 inches by 6 inches).
The cradle again is plastic and has a bright blue 'button' style of light on it. Looks ok when it is on the go but the cradle is not exactly made from...

Great idea, but not a great unit
Review of Iomega Storcenter Network Hard Drive Premium Series by
paulpemby
Advantages: Central storage solution for Documents, 2x USB ports for printers
Disadvantages: Very poor build quality
...I have to say the idea behind these drives is excellent. You can store all your music, photos and other documents on this drive, connect it to a network with just one cable and then have access to your documents from any pc on the network. We purchased two of the 250Gb version to run a shared database on for our company. The idea was to store all shared documents on these two drives and get rid of our aging server. This idea seemed to be ideal when I was testing it on just one PC at a time but as soon as multiple people start to access the data the drives cannot cope. Although the drives have gigabit network connections (which I thought would be more than sufficient) the data transfer is still very sluggish and keeps pausing at regular intervals. We got so frustrated with these drives that we had to go out and buy a new server...
