Reviews of iomega zip
I love it!
Review of Iomega Zip 250 MB USB Powered by
pehchiong
Advantages: Fast data transfer
Disadvantages: Pricy device
...I am using the Iomega Zip 250 via USB for my work and I really like this storage device compared to the earlier one, the 100 MB Zip which I find it insufficient at times.
The outlook of this portable device is sleek and the blue transparent case gives it some class of its own. It gives fast connection over USB and I have no problems transferring data from my harddisk to the drive.
In fact, I could also played music from the zip disc. This storage device is handy if you are planning to move large files or data from one computer to another which is not physically connected at all.
I rate the Iomega Zip 250 as one of the best portable storage device that Iomega has ever designed....

Useful tip
Review of Iomega ZIP 100 MB by
uptyu
Advantages: very easy usb
Disadvantages: none
...The Iomega 100USB Zip drive is an ideal way to back up your files, the plug and play facility of the USB feature means that you can install the software which puts a handy icon on your desktop that appears on startup. You can unplug you Zip drive any time and just plug in again very easily. A good tip to remember is that on occasions you may get a message that your Zip disk is full when in fact there is still plenty of space available, to overcome this, it is best to create new folders then put your details into the folder this way more of your Zip disk will be used
a Zip disk can store only 511 files in a root directory so if your disk is showing full when it only has 16mb of info on it then store your files in folders....

Iomega zip very useful and easy
Review of Iomega ZIP 100 MB by
joel56
Advantages: easy, quickly, and useful
Disadvantages: diskette expensive
...I use an external ZIP 100 Mo USB, it is a fast and reliable solution, as well for the backup.
This operation is tiresome with the tapes whose reading is with sequential access, and I must say for my needs an unsuited choice.
The reader Zip of Iomega proves to be of great utility.
I have chosen the reader Zip USB 100Mo.
a breakdown of hard disk, one does not need large thing, a simple variation of intensity of current can damage your hard disk.
All those which have used data processing for a few years were confronted with the need for formatting (to erase all the data) hard disk; as much to be careful.
I had personally many problems on my hard disk (virus in particular)a storage medium which is very well for a use, the more so as the data bases type textual file support a very high compression ratio of about 90%.
You can...

Zip Password Removal
Review of Iomega ZIP 100 MB by
patrickgalvin
Advantages: If you forgot your password...
Disadvantages: Lack Of Security
...I used to use the zip drive for important information, however now I have found that it is easy to actually break the password on a zip disk. There is a very simple method to remove the password from the disk:
1. Insert a blank disk into the zip drive
2. Give this disk a password (it can be any password, as long as you
remember it)
3. Using the Ioega toolset, set the zip drive's sleep time to a large
value (such as 1 minute)
4. Wait a while until the drive "spins down". You will hear the drive
stop spinning.
5. Take a pin or a straighten paper clip and stick it into a hole in
the back of the Zip drive. This will manually eject the blank disk.
6. Insert the disk you want to access (the one you don't know the
password to)
7. now use the IoMega toolset to remove the password. When prompted
for the password use...

Zip Drive not worth it
Review of Iomega ZIP 100 MB by
paul170184
Advantages: CD writers are a lot more efficient
Disadvantages: zip drives are slow
...If you're shopping for a new zip drive, seriously reconsider to get a CD RW drive instead! Zip drives are slow and don't have much space in them! Also, if you're transporting it to someone else's house, they have to have a zip drive to use your zip disk and not every one has them! But CDs are pretty much universal for every computer. Even the zip disks cost a lot more than just getting CDs for your CD-RW. So the way things are going, eg getting cheaper you'll be a lot better buying a cd writer....

Get a CD-R/W instead
Review of Iomega ZIP 100 MB by
bobsmith
Advantages: None anymore
Disadvantages: Slow, expensive, proprietary format, inconvenient
...Once upon a time, when CD-R/W drives were expensive, everyone wanted a Zip Drive, because they were cheap and convenient. Nowadays things have changed, and CD-R/W drives are cheap. The biggest drawback of the zip drive is that most people do not have one, so your data was often useless if you wanted to share it with someone, unless they too had a zip drive. The other thing is zip drives are slow, and they will slow your entire system to a halt when reading or writing a disk. I really cannot see any reason to buy a zip drive these days - the media are a LOT more expensive than CDs, and hold a lot less data; you cannot easily share data unless the other person has a zip drive too, and if Iomega goes out of business you can say goodbye to your data, whereas CDs are a standard format....

Iadmire Iomega
Review of Iomega ZIP 100 MB by
r1
Advantages: Sufficient storage, handy
Disadvantages: disks a bit expensive?
...The ZIP 100Mb may well be a bit dated but certainly has served me well in the 3 years I’ve had it. The lovely drive has been a vital part of my computer, without it I wouldn't be able to move from one PC to the next so freely; it’s just so convenient. Sure there are a lot of products out there that have higher capacities etc. But the ZIP is ideal for home or small business users needing to transport files or even small applications! The Internal ZIP is a bit tricky to install if you do not have knowledge of fitting such drives, but it's actual installation on the computer's hard drive is non-existent. You just plug and play! To date, it would be good to get one of these for a cheaper second hand price, as it is somewhat yesterdays technology, but full credit to Iomega's veteran drive, it does me proud....

Excellent drive, good value
Review of Iomega Zip 250 MB USB Powered by
Grendel
Advantages: Mass storage for a good price
Disadvantages: Transfer of files needs a portable or second drive on the target computer
...Everyone wants more drivespace. Files are getting bigger as are applications. It becomes increasingly more difficult to transfer files from one computer to another.
A zip drive can help out.
The 250M drive is slightly bigger than the zipdisk itself.
The USB connection is considerable faster than a parallel connection. In a number of tests I read about transfer rates of 900kb/s.
Another point to mention is the downward compatibility with 100Mb zipdisks (the older version). The 250Mb drive can read these disks with ease, though writing is impossible. Also the zipdrive is capable of working under Windows XX and the Macintosh operating systems.
Hopefully Iomega will work on a Linux version....

Not the speediest Zip in the world
Review of Iomega ZIP 100 MB by
malcsum
Advantages: Cheap Drive
Disadvantages: Parallel port slow and expensive disks
...The iomega zip drive is a usual device for backing up small amounts of data. However, if you want to save a lot of data, then it probably will not be the drive for you. The zip drive comes in various disguises and the two I use are the parallel port and the adapi ide versions. The first thing you notice about the parallel port version is its speed, or more precisely the lack of it. A 100mb data will easily take 35 minutes on the parallel port version (but is dependent on the speed of your machine) compared to less than a minute on the adapi. However, speed isn't everything and the parallel port version is portable and will link to any machine in matter of minutes.
The price of the zip drive is very reasonable at less than £80, but what really starts to hurt is the cost of the disks. It is this that will stop you from backing up vast...

Iomega Zip - Very Reliable how would I live without it?
Review of Iomega ZIP 100 MB by
eep362
Advantages: 70 times as much storage as a floppy disk, use unlimited ammount of disks, access files on more than one computer, don't lose your work on rebuild.
Disadvantages: Not all computers have zip drives, disks cost around £7 each.
...I, not long ago had the problem many people face of a Hard Drive that just wasn't big enough. At school there were a few Iomega Zip 100 Parallel Drives, as I also needed to use my computer for school work it was the best choice.
Not only is it helpful because of space but also if you want to use a different PC (e.g. a laptop or other computer), it means that all your files are avalible to you. It also helps alot if you need to rebuild your computer, formating your disk doesn't effect your files and if needed you can back up your files.
I choose the parallel external version because I knew I might want to use it on different computers and not all of them have scsi or USB, although USB was not avalible when I brought mine.
I use one disk continuasly and have done for around a year, it has all my school work and my website on and I have...
