...After getting completely frustrated with the iron that was in our rented flat I deceided to splash out on a new iron. I was curious to know if it was my ironing skills that were at fault, or whether its true in the realm of irons that you get what you pay for. So with a budget of €60, I scoured the Argos catalogue and reviews on Ciao. The Argos catalogue has a method of rating irons based on the amount of steam they produce, and the grade of the soleplate - with ceramic being the best. So eventually I picked out the Philips Azure as best value for my budget, and sent my husband to queue in Argos for said iron. Being the wonderful man that he is, he actually came back with the object of this review - the Philips GC4311 - as it was on sale from €90 to €45. Advantages: User friendly - fast to warm up

...off the iron for five minutes and return afterwards, which I did. This went on for about 45 minutes before I retreated to that, the last of mans retreats - a sulk... 2/5 SO SHOULD YOU GET ONE? The fact that the iron became temperamental after a fair bit of use means I wouldn't recommend a family that 'hammers' the iron purchase this type. However, if you only want to iron a few clothes at a time, then this model could be a fine choice! It cost £16.99 so it is reasonably priced, and is available from all good electrical retail shops, and (all together now) some very poor ones too...... Read review

...Surprisingly enough, my husband, sweet man in my life, picked up a good iron, whilst out shopping for a change. He had to go away for a few meetings in Scotland. Although most hotels would have irons, and ironing boards, he decided to pick up a cheap one from Argos. This saved faffing about trying to get an iron. When he brought it home, I was amazed as it looked like a decent iron. I'm not knocking my hubby, but he's a bit of a skinflint, and buys the cheapest he can get. Granted, we only needed a cheap second iron for him to take away with him, and this was a bargain. I liked it so much, he now takes the old iron and I keep this one at home to use. The Rowenta DE 253 was I think the cheapest iron we have ever brought, and the best. Its so easy to use and irons really well, not that I do much ironing. I try and get away with ironing... ...will stain your cloths. Now it only took a few minutes with his shirt but I do find that when I've got a large basket of ironing which does happen every other day. That my hand get's sore due to the weight of the iron and standing in one spot. And the iron does take a while to cool down for storing so watch for small finger's oh and clumsy men. My advise is yes it's a great iron and well worth the money but I do need to find a nicely built man that loves to iron. And doesn't mined doing it only in his boxer's........ All the best Kat... ...Turbostream for about a year and a half now and it is still running as good as the day we bought it from Argos. This model tends to have all the same features as most irons on the market these I will explain below and at a very reasonable price it is a good iron. There is one big bonus I found with this iron and that is that most irons have a very short cord about a meter where as the Turbosteam has a long 2 meter cord making where you sockets are around your house no issue when it comes to ironing. The extra length means I can take it all in the living room and watch the football whilst getting the ironing done. Yes for those that have not guessed I am a man that enjoys his chores well not so much enjoys the chores but enjoys sitting down after with a cup of chocolate and a content feeling when the kid's are in bed and all the works done. ...Iron Monkey is a fantastic film which follows the story of the Iron Monkey a Robin Hood type character. Local doctor by day and stopper of wrong do-ers contributing his spoils to the poor by night. The town in which he lives is run by a corrupt governor who exploits the poor. Iron Monkey is unstoppable because of his supreme fighting skills but a man (Donny Yeung) and his arrive in the town and he proves to be Iron Monkey's equal. The man and his son get entangled in Iron Monkey governor situation - the son kicks some ass and gets some ass kicked. Some rebel Shaolin monks and a disgraced Abbot also get wound into the story and it sets a stage for an Iron Monkey, Donny Yeung vs. the rebel Shaoliners show down. VARIABLE STEAM The steam dial allows the user to select the desired steam output for the garment to be ironed, or it can be selected to dry setting for ironing without steam. 2. POWERFUL SHOT STEAM Pressing the shot of steam button will instantly produce a shot of steam for those really stubborn creases, that every woman (and man) loathes. 3. VERTICAL SHOT OF STEAM If you leave the iron in an upright position and press the shot of steam button, this will produce a vertical shot of steam, which is ideal for the larger and heavier items such as curtains, sheets, possibly suits, and also at the other end of the scale, delicate fabrics (with the heat turned down, mind!) As a superhero legend Iron Man is often forgotten despite popularity as a comic strip character, it was often said that Stan Lee would not allow to be turned to a movie character until it could be done right. .... Performance? It seems to emit more steam than its predecessor - Mrs Tweaker says it irons like a dream. I've had one go with it myself - but as I am to ironing what Bernard Manning is to Slimfast then you'll just have to take Mrs T's word for it that it is fantastic. The iron also can be used as a steamer - you can aim it at curtains, for instance, and run the iron up and down them steaming as you go. (By the way, this sort of steam treatment apparently kills dust mites) A couple of other points: this iron is heavy - it needs a stable surface. It also needs an ironing board which has little holes in it to dissipate steam, and a large enough plate to hold the vast, mother ship of a reservoir.
