...Forward the Foundation - Isaac Asimov
A few facts before this review starts,
This is the Seventh and final book in the foundation series. Understandable really as Isaac Asimov died just 2 weeks after completing the book in April 1992.
It is widely accepted that Asimov regarded Hari Seldon as his alter ego and in this book Hari..... Well you'll have to read it.
The book follows the decline of the Empire and the coming to fruition of Hari Seldons great plans and works. Mixed in are flash back to Haris? earlier days, which are used to fill in many missing parts of Haris? earlier life and some of the crisis moments of the Seldon plan.
You are shown the clash between Hari and Cleon II, Emperor of the known Universe. But more importantly the manoeuvres between Hari and Cleons adviser, Eto Demerzel...
...Prelude To Foundation.
Author - Isaac Asimov.,
Synopsis -
This book was written in 1988 and was the last Foundation book yet to be written. As with Star Wars not all 6 Foundation novels where written chronologically. It, as the name suggests, should be considered the 1st Foundation book.
At 460 pages long, here are just a few pointers to the virgin foundation reader.
The book wastes no time in introducing the reader to Hari Seldon, the mathematical genius of physcohistory. Which is the prediction of future events by mathematically understanding MASS human behavior.
Hari travels to Trantor to give a lecture but ends up meeting the Emperor Cleon 1 and his dangerous advisor Eto Demerzel.
The Emperor is skeptical but decides to keep hari under survalence. Hari visits a local park where he is almost mugged but rescued by...
Advantages: suitable for all ages no violence, sex swearing Disadvantages: longer books may be a bit hard going for some
...Isaac Asimov
------------------
His name hinting at the authors heritage, Isaac Isimov is of Jewish descent. Born in Smolensk, Russia, his family moved to the USA in the period between the two world wars. By mistake, this was thought that his family fled Russia, but this is not the case.
Isaac grew up helping to run his parents sweet shop, and was no doubt gifted as a young child. Picking up reading and writing very early in life. his autobiography even says that once he knew the very basics, reading was self taught. Although later on in school life, and on to university Isaac went from being an exceptional student, to being a very bright one. Was this to do with what and where interests really lay? Even not knowing what he may want to do himself, and the conflicts between what held his interest and what he studied at school...

Review of Isaac Asimov
Advantages: beautifully written and engaging story, well rounded characters, thought provoking storyline Disadvantages: none
...~~~~~A bit of background~~~~~
This book is undoubtedly one of the masterworks of science fiction, but before I can even begin to explain why to you, first I feel I should give a brief introduction to the author in order to offer some insight. Isaac Asimov is possibly passing familiar to many, either through his literary works, or from the taglines on such recent film adaptations of his works such as "I, Robot"., but I doubt many know the man behind the name. I think this is important, as it gives a bit more respect and understanding of the books as it gives a peek into the author's possible thoughts and motivation behind the writing of these pieces of fiction.
Isaac Asimov was a Russian born American citizen. He was an accomplished professor of biochemistry as well as a prolific writer and editor. It is estimated that he has...
Advantages: Gripping plot, start of a legendary sci-fi epic... Disadvantages: ... episodic, little characterisation
...Foundation is a landmark in science fiction history by one of the all-time giants of the genre, Isaac Asimov. Though this novel in itself is perhaps not an all-time great, the series the it is the beginning of most certainly is.
Overview
--------------
The Galactic Empire is falling, but no-one can see it apart from one man. This man, Hari Seldon, has developed the science of "Psychohistory" - the art of predicting future events be analysing mob behaviour mathematically. It doesn't work for individuals, only for large groups of people - and Seldon has predicted the future of the Empire (it doesn't look good) and has developed a plan. The Seldon Plan is to set up two foundations, at "opposite ends of the galaxy", to shorten the foreseen 30 millennia of barbarism following the fall of the Empire to a single millennium, and ensure...
Advantages: Complex and clever yet not too long, ambitious ideas and very well-written Disadvantages: Pretty much devoid of action, some very long dialogues
...three more related titles, and was first published back in 1951. Its author, Russian-born Isaac Asimov, is perhaps best-known in recent times for his I, Robot story and its film-adaptation in 2004.
Foundation is a quite excellent science-fiction novel that, rather than choosing to follow a single central character, tracks many different figures who are used as tools to help reveal Asimov?s grand vision. Set in the distant future, the story begins with Hari Seldon, a man who has predicted through a science known as ?psychohistory? (calculations using a gigantic quantity of human-based equations) that the all-powerful, all-conquering galactic super-power known as the Empire, would soon fall, plunging the galaxy into chaos. Seldon knows that with so little time left, the disaster can not be avoided, but with the help of his predictive science...
Advantages: If you've read the others, you might enjoy reading more. Disadvantages: If you've read the others, this will probably come as a let down.
.... The reason I think you should read this is because if you ever think of or are writing a book, this would serve as a stark reminder of the problems with publishers. They ask for things that, often, writers don't really want to do. The other reason is actually just the first reason again, but I think it's relevant to mention it twice because it is two reasons in reality.
I won't beat about the bush: I don't like this book. I think Mr. Asimov should have left the Foundation series alone here. I haven't read the prequels yet, and I don't doubt that they might be okay, but I view this book as a bit of a travesty. The dialogue is extended beyond reasonable limits and laboured to the extreme, and, given the foreword, in which old Isaac tells us that he was asked to write how ever many thousands of words, the only conclusion I can come to is that he...
Advantages: Central Location, Cheap, Very Clean, Great Atmosphere, 24 hr reception Disadvantages: You need to remember your reciept to get in after 11pm
...I was searching through and was delighted to see that Isaac?s Hostel in Dublin City had it?s place here on Ciao. However, I guess I have had a much better stay than some. I simply cannot fault one thing about Isaac?s, I have recommended it to many, and choose it for a lot of my stays when I do stop over in the city centre.
Isaac?s is what only can be described as an old feel type of place. It is a renovated wine warehouse, with stone work outside, and old oak benches and tables inside in the reception/dining/meeting area. I have stayed here at least 10 times in the past 5 years, always renting out a twin or triple private room, so this is my point of view on the establishment.
The hostel is defiantly my favourite, cheap and cheerful with plenty of entertainment from the other occupants. You will make friends, you will see a great...

Review of Isaacs Hostel, Dublin
Advantages: A brilliant read and an escapism novel, A well respected author Disadvantages: It's Sci-Fi - a disadvantage for me but not in this case!
...evacuated.....
I can't tell you any more about the story as anything else wil be a spoiler. Does Nemesis complete it's journey of destruction? Does Tessa develop Superlumial space flight enough to be able to avert this tragedy? How does Marlene fit into the grand scheme of things? I'm not telling you!
All I will say is this book is definitely worth a read. Isaac Asimov uses such strong descriptions of various planets, stars and people that you almost feel that you're watching a film rather than reading a book. You find yourself picturing the faces of the characters in the book and you can relate to the characters - when they're scared you can understand why and when they're happy you find yourself wishing them the best. A good thing that I found with this book is you're not given a multitude of characters to remember - the main...
