Advantages: User friendly and very reliable. Three Tariffs to choose from Anytime, Daytime and PayAsYouGo. Disadvantages: You get cut off automatically after ten minutes of 'inactivity' online, with no warning!
...To start with, don't spend money buying their disc at the checkout and don't be put off by that! Ask for one online or ring them. They respond at once, the information arrives pronto and saves you 50p! You can always ask your local store to ring up for you and get one sent!!
I nearly didn't research them, as I object to paying to simply try something out, but I was really pleased that I got the disc and I was very pleasantly surprised at the difference between their service and f.e. AOL or even Freeserve. They do not have a free help number, but they do answer very quickly and they are helpful and don't waste your phone bill - mind you, I doubt you will need to use the Helpline for Tech support, as the service is good. If you do get a problem, they respond quickly and politely.

Review of Tesco.net ISP
...I joined Tesco's ISP because I moved from a Telewest area to a none Telewest or NTL area :( I wanted the cheapest ISP around because I wanted value for money. I currently use the Anytime tariff and have been a customer for 4 months.
Tesco ISP comes with three tariffs, £12.99 for Anytime..(with NO restrictions of how many hours you can be online ...unlike BT). Pay as you go, from 1p per minute (or cheaper if you add the number to your BT friends and family), and Daytime 2am - 4pm for £5.99 a month.(I'm 99% sure this includes weekends too).
Tesco are currently doing 2 months free with anytime, and you are under no obligation to stay with them. If you do stay, you are billed via a credit or debit card at the end of your month ..but please check which cards are accepted, Visa Electron, and American Express are currently not...

Review of Tesco.net ISP
Advantages: cheap, reliable, excellent service staff Disadvantages: 50p per min helpdesk
...I have been with Tesco.net for 5 months now. I ordered their ISP access cd when I was working abroad and it had arrived when I had arrived back home a week later.
It was a cinch (sp?) to install, and the fact that I had previously been using and had uninstalled another ISP (freeserve) didn't provide many problems.
I am on Tesco anytime which costs me £12.99 a month direct debit. I found this to be one of the cheapest ones around, and as someone who could not really afford paying Broadband prices, think it is an excellent deal.
You get 15mb of free webspace
Webmail (so you can access your email abroad)
5 email addresses
The only con that I have found is that the helpdesk costs 50p a min. However, when I did have a tecnical problem due to the remains of Freeserves Outlook programme, I was very pleased with the fact that my...

Review of Tesco.net ISP
Advantages: no connection fee, no setup charges, no call charges, no monthly fee, additional services too. Disadvantages: they disconnect you after an hour to allow other users to log on to their free service
...With no setup fee, no connection charges, no monthly rental and no call costs this has to be the best ISP in the UK today. I've been using this service for over a year now and it just got better. They call it 'ic24'. It started with free clling during the following hours on the weekend: 0900-1000, 1100-1200, 1300-1400, 1500-1600, 1700-1800. This time then incresed and I was then able to log on to the net for free on weekends anytime between 0900-1700. This time was again increased when free calls were recently introduced between 2000-0000 on every weekday evening. I also use ic24's 0800 number to access WAP services for free from my 7110(details of which can be found in my article on 7110). And ic24 also provides additional services like all other ISP's too....

Review of The Best FREE ISP - The Best FREE ISP
Advantages: Compression on downloads, free trial, competitive £13 a month fees. Disadvantages: One too many disconnections at peak times.
...Ever since living in a small village near Banbury since December 02 I have been using an ISDN (BT Homehighway) line, due to the lack of any available broadband technology. Now, I am moving on again (BB will be a criteria of my new place!) but in the meantime I have been roadtesting the occasional ISP.
I had been using BT Openworld at £16.99 a month to access the net at 64K over ISDN. Whilst it was never earth shattering, as you would expect, I was always fairly happy with the downloads and speed, based on my expectations. Also, the BT portal page wasn’t that bad, and BT had recently extended their online times, so that in the evenings you get 4 hours before being kicked off, which is rather rare I think. However along with many other ISP’s you are limited to 150 hours online per month.
A friend pointed me in the direction of Tesco...

Review of Tesco.net ISP
Advantages: Fast, Reliable, Great service Disadvantages: Could up it to 16mbps
...didn't want to change my service provider because i was getting a good service and reliable speeds from Plusnet i decided to upgrade my connection to their up 8mbps broadband your way option 3 which cost only £19.99 but you 20gb download usage during the day and after midnight you get unlimited download usage. The main reason i upgraded my package because i became more interested in downloading games and larger files like movies and music. The overall package is great, speed of the isp is brilliant cannot fault them one bit browsing the net is so quick with this company which is why i would recommend this company to anyone looking to change the isp.

Review of Plusnet
Advantages: Cheap, fast, simple Disadvantages: fair usage policy, limited speeds, no help
...When looking for an internet service provider it is vital to shop around. That is what i did, and after a few weeks i made the extreme leap from 56kbps dial up, to an apparent 2Mbps.
I signed up about a year ago now, and have had no major problems with the service which they are providing.
When i signed up there was an array of offers on, these ranged from basic dial up, to the one i had. This was then £17.99 a month, which included a 20Gb per month bandwidth cap.
A bandwidth cap is a preselected usage amount, that you agree at registration with your isp. They in turn allow you that much bandwidth per month. I decided on 20 Gb, it costs more but then I use more. The majority of people will only use max of 2Gb per month. But it is always nice to know you have a little more if you need it.
I am an high bandwidth user...
Advantages: Cheap ISP. Disadvantages: Unreliable and badly managed.
...I signed up to the V21 ISP in Summer 2001, mainly as the offer of unlimited 24/7 access for £9.99 a month was very cheap.
Signing up was very simple from their website, just putting in the usual personal details such as name, address and also preferred payment option. I decided to pay for the service using my Goldfish credit card, allowing V21 to debit the monthly fees directly from the card.
My only slight concern initially was the site looked a bit amateurish, certainly it is quite bare even today.
I had been using BTInternet up until then and continued using their service as I still had a few days left on my credit and was experiencing problems with V21. I e-mailed V21 and they said they had been having technical problems which would be sorted out shortly.
True enough, a couple of days later I was able to connect to...
Advantages: popular, easy to set up Disadvantages: easy to upset customers, terrible customer service
...This is a really weird opinion to write. I am writing as someone who, very recently, broke up a longstanding relationship. It was acrimonious and I didn't want to have to, but I did it, because I knew that in the long run I would be better off. Let me take you back...
In 1998 I joined the internet revolution with my trusty Pentium 166 computer and my 33k modem. After a brief flirtation with another ISP, I settled down into a cosy relationship with Freeserve, as it was the first ISP to offer just call charges with no monthly subscription.
Life with Freeserve was bliss. Well, it had to be, as I met my wife on the internet. Reasonably fast connection and all that jazz. In 2000 we joined up with 'Unlimited Freeserve'. a service that gave us cheaper phone calls and a 24/7 charge free internet service. Life, as you can imagine, was...
