ITV1 - everyone else Nil!

Advantages: Good UEFA coverage
Disadvantages: Too many Soaps and too much Drama.

...ITV1 is going through a serious bad patch at the moment, after the phone line scandal and with programs like Ant and Dec's Takeaway the channel is not having the success that it had in the past and with falling revenue from advertising the company has decided to cut back on its regional programmes to absorb the drops in revenue. Today it has been branded as a nationwide channel rather than the regional identities that had long been established such as Thames Television for London or Central for the Midlands region. The channel itself started broadcasting under the name of Independent Television on 22nd September 1955, as an alternative to the BBC that only had one channel at the time. Throughout the 1960's and 1970's the channel gave us a whole host of well known acts such as Benny Hill, and Morecambe and Wise. Also it gave us shows...

Homedics SBM-300H

Advantages: Good quality massage, does as described
Disadvantages: Can't really think of any

...I've had some quite bad back pain for over twelve months now, with the main symptoms being lower back pain and stiffness. I've tried a few of those hand held massagers and one day when on holiday in Spain I used one of those massage chairs that you pay one Euro into and get a five minute shiatsu massage. It was absolute bliss and seemed to loosen up the muscles in my back considerably so I've been in search of something similar that won't break the bank ever since. Having done some research and read reviews I decided to purchase the Homedics SBM-300 from amazon.co.uk as it was quite cheap at £85.45 plus delivery. Having decided to splash out and have the guaranteed next day delivery it arrived very quickly and I eagerly opened the box. This particular model is described as a massage cushion and is able to fit to most chairs...

300 - okish

Advantages: everything
Disadvantages: everything only if you watch another film before

...I have to admit I did do something wrong when watching this film. I happened to have watched "Meet The Spartans" before I watched this, so I kind of already knew the plot and sort of seriously got bored with this film, as I was expecting the funny bits come leaping out, unfortunately there was no funny bits and it was deadly serious, so at first I couldn't understand it but then I settled down to it however I have to admit I really do prefer the soundtrack over this film! The Director of the film is Zack Snyder, who is quite a new director and has only directed 3 films, "300" "Dawn Of The Dead" (Which I really do want to watch) & "Watchmen" (Which I'm not too sure about), he is not only a director but he is also a Producer and a writer! I don't know whether he is a good director considering he has only directed this film (That I have...

300 v's How Many?????

Advantages: excellent story, amazing effects, hunky half dressed men!
Disadvantages: Bit far fetched with creatures at the end

...this news very well and kills the messenger and sets about getting his army prepared for battle. He gets an army of 300 Spartans prepared, only men who have sons are allowed to fight so that their name can continue if they were to die in battle. The 300 set off in the face of danger whole hearted and ready to defend Sparta and their king. Will the 300 be able to take on the whole of the Persian Army and just what will become of King Leonidas and Sparta? This film did not appeal to me at first but after watching t many months ago I thought I would give it another go as I understood more now about the Spartans and the Persians. The first time I watched this I was constantly asking hubby questions about who was who and why they were fighting but this time I understood all of this and it did make it much easier for me to watch...

ITV's The Conference

Advantages: It shows football...
Disadvantages: Everything else is crap

...In a fit of rage normally associated with when someone tries to take money away from me, I sit and stare at the telly. Once more, money has triumphed over quality and we, the viewers, have no say in the matter. What is this that has brought the rage upon the normally placid and laid back Duke? Well, it’s ITV’s The Premiership. ITV have never been renowned for their football coverage, and when I heard that, once again, Auntie Beeb had lost yet another sport (and not just any sport – they managed to lose the most popular sport in the world!) I resigned myself to some second rate football coverage come the new season. So, here we are in the new season, and I have five or so weeks of The Premiership under my belt. Each Saturday night, at approximately 20:15 o’clock, I cry into my cup of tea as I’ve wasted...

ITV Player - Plays The Programmes You Miss

Advantages: ITV Any Time, Convenient
Disadvantages: Buffering Takes Time

...ITV Player follows in the footsteps of the BBC I-Player ? an online service offering the opportunity to watch the shows you have missed for up to 28 days after they are first aired. For those without a DVD recorder of a VCR this service offers an excellent opportunity to catch up. This service was a new experience for me and having read several reviews as to the poor quality of the programmes screened I wasn?t expecting an awful lot. However I made my way to ITV.co.uk and followed the link for ITV Player. The website is extremely accessible and very user friendly. The ITV Player link takes you to a sub site specifically adapted to allow the user to find the programme/show they wish to watch and then to watch it. I was seeking Wuthering Heights, Part 2 having seen Part 1 last Sunday evening. The show wasn?t available online...

ITV World

Advantages: Free with the license fee
Disadvantages: Too many adverts, crappy sidebar credit for all peak-time/networked programmes (idealogy sucks), no longer the ITV it was originally meant to be

...Now called ITV1 to pair it up with its sister digital channel ITV2, it's been around since the dawn of commercial TV in 1955. The original commercial broadcaster, but by no means the best. Originally a blueprint of 16 localised channels set up between 1955 and 1960, its aim was to be local as opposed to the BBC which is national. Of course by 1968 some of these local stations lost their franchises and were replaced with others. The same thing happened in 1981 (which was when we lost ATV to Central) and again in 1992 (which, incidentally, saw the demise of the excellent TV-AM and the introduction of the naff GMTV). Of course, 1993 also introduced Carlton as a TV broadcaster for the London area. Eight years later, they now broadcast to London on weekdays, and the Midlands and Wales too. This looks like its going to turn ITV from...

It's Only ITV, But I like It

Advantages: Some very good programmes
Disadvantages: Adverts, some dross, Barrymore

...If you had asked me last week, which TV channel I’d have, if I could only have one – I’d have said BBC1 immediately. But since I started researching into the topic of television channels, my mind has changed somewhat. I have already written an opinion on BBC1 and, if you’ve seen it, you’ll know I am quite a fan of that channel. But after having listed my favourite ten programmes, I discovered that six of them were on ITV! I have the TV on a lot, it’s on in the background while I’m on the computer. We only have a portable TV upstairs and the aerial is pretty useless, so if I actually want to sit and WATCH a programme (instead of mainly listening to it), I go downstairs and the picture quality there is perfect. Out of the seven programmes I bother to go downstairs to watch include three...

ITV for You

Advantages: Free to air
Disadvantages: ? any comments

...After 15 years my analogue TV was on its was on its way out, rather than rush into a digital TV at great expense I decided to try a new analogue TV (with scart sockets) and a Phillips free view digital box. Amongst the selection of stations ITV2 a free - to - air TV channel owned by ITV plc. I'm hoping to pay for it with the proceeds from reviews of stations available. Keep you eyes open. Some of the information below is from Wikipedia (a website) more is available there. THE FACTS Launched in 7/12/1998 via satellite, cable, terrestrial (freeview). It had an estimated audience of 1.8 % share (multi channel home user) in April 2006. Showings start daily from 9.25 am. Most of the content is made up of ITV1 programmes shown at a later time examples include Coronation street, imported American programs such as Judge Judy and extended...

The HP 300's bigger, stronger brother

Advantages: prints lots
Disadvantages: none

...This range of print cartridges from HP is the bigger and better version of the HP300. Those of you who remember my stunning, wrongly uncrowned review of the HP300 will remember how it ran out after just 140 pages. Well, this time I splashed out on the upgrade. Basically, these cost £30 each, although I picked them up on ebay for around £19 brand new and sealed. They are print cartridges that do a lot more than the HP300. The black and white cartridge will give 600 pages of print (4 times what I got out of its baby brother at just twice the price). The colour one gives 440 pages. The cartridges are tidy and easy to install ? they just click into place. There?s no ink around and you won?t get ink everywhere which is ideal. The quality of the ink is stunning ? rich and dark, intense and thick, it looks brilliant. It never...
