Peogeot 406 estate

Advantages: economical, reliable,
Disadvantages: shabby finish

...I have now owned my Peogeot 406 diesel estate (2.0 HDI) for 4 years. It has started first time every day throughout this time, is economical, especially on long runs, comfortable, quiet and a pleasure to drive. The electronic climate control keeps the interior environment pleasant regardless of what the weather is doing outside - it is a real cocoon. However, there have been many niggles. The windscreen wipters are computer-controlled and don't always do what I want them to, especially when turning them off!. The boy trim (little plastic crhome strips) fall off regularly, and the front passenge seat squeaks when not occupied, which is most of the time. Wasting time with District 9

Advantages: Good action sequences, interesting moral ideas.
Disadvantages: Terrible (and I mean terrible) acting, disjointed.

...and themes. The alien's enforced segregation and mistreatment so clearly reflecting the issues that have occurred in South Africa over the years. It obviously a subject close to native South African fledging Director Neil Blomkamp's heart and kudos to him for attempting it. However, this does not forgive the fact that large parts of this film are bloody awful. Take the aliens for example. How dreadful are they! They look like something out of Doctor Who. Not even the modern Doctor Who either. We are talking Tom Baker era special effects here! The whole thing is very much low budget made for television sci-fi. Now I like my B-movies as much as the next guy but they have to make up for it with a decent plot and acting and for me District 9 has neither. A strong theme and an interesting moral undercurrent? Advantages: A classic theme
Disadvantages: Terrible script, terrible acting and a disappointing ending

...Buying a film featuring Kelly Brook was always going to be risky but I still couldn?t quite stop myself from putting House of 9 in my Amazon basket ? maybe Dennis Hopper would make up for it? The idea behind this film is similar to that of Saw 2 and based on the classic ?And Then There Were None? theme of several people being forced together only for their number to be reduced until there is only 1 (or possibly 2 or even none) person still standing. In House of 9, 9 strangers are abducted from their everyday life only to be imprisoned together in a completely sealed house furnished with cameras and hidden microphones. They wake up unable to understand what has happened to them until a disembodied voice informs them that they have been put here as part of a game. Review of House Of 9 (DVD)

406 2.0 hdi GLX manual V-reg

Advantages: fuel economy, refinement, handling
Disadvantages: expensive dealer servicing, average image

...I bought my 406 when it was 1 years old with 15000 miles. Since then it has done 45000 miles in two years. I have been very pleased with it except for the front disk brakes which I will come to later. It's most oustanding features are fuel economy and refinement. On my 40 mile commute covering A roads and fast dual carriageway, the 406 averages 54mpg. I think that is an excellent figure for a car of this size, (the lowest I ever got was 49mpg). I do not drive slowly and overtake whenever safe; indeed 4th gear overtaking performance is very good. Standing start acceleration is not as good as an equivalent petrol, but then that's the same for the majority of diesels. Refinement is also excellent. At 70mph the engine is doing 2250rpm, indeed at 100mph it's doing just 3100rpm. It just loves to cruise at very high speeds, 100mph...

My birthday pressie a Peugeot 406

9 Songs I Hate About You

Advantages: Some decent enough music.
Disadvantages: Pornography thinly disguised as a love story.

...more than sex and music and there's no apparent love at all. Not emotionally, at least. The music only section is a bit of a waste of time. It is just the parts of the film where the bands are on stage. Given that the film isn't split into that many scenes, it's a slightly easier way of getting to the musical performances than going through the scene selection itself, but it amounts to pretty much the same thing. What is amusing is that 8 or the 9 songs featured in the film are indie-rock songs, but they have chosen the one that doesn't fit this mould, Michael Nyman's "Debbie", to play over the menu selections, which just doesn't quite feel right. ...The Peugeot 406 is an excellent car - a great improvement on the 405 which was nevertheless a good car itself. I currently drive a 406 diesel and the extras, which come as standard are the icing on the cake. The 406 diesels come with a turbo unit as standard, which enhances performance, with a noticeable increase of power once the car's rev counter is over 2,750rpm. It's not quick off the mark or particularly fast - it's a diesel - but it is sufficiently nippy and is the most reliable car I have driven. From new, and now with 45,000 miles on it, with regular servicing I have not had a part changed, except the odd bulb, or oil filter. The air conditioning is an excellent accessory and I have never had any problems with the unit itself - having driven through France and Spain twice. The only down points which I have...
