Sandals Montego bay

Advantages: Sandals in genuinely "All Inclusive", and oozes quality
Disadvantages: Jamaica seems festooned with hustlers

...I went to Sandals Montego Bay for 2 weeks in August 1997 for my honeymoon. It seemed pricey at first glance (it was about 3400 ukp for us both) but this turned out to be pretty good value for money. The food was excellent, there were at least 5 restaurants to choose from including a Chinese, an Italian and an A La Carte, all at least four courses. You could also pop along to Sandals Royal Jamaican or Sandals Inn for a change. Sandals Royal Jamaican has an excellent Indonesian restaurant you have to get to in a "traditional" Balinese boat, but it's well worth the effort. All of the staff did their best to give you a good holiday and the activities were enjoyable, though you weren't forced to join in. Nice tan, shame about the nervous breakdown!

Advantages: Weather, beach and the food!
Disadvantages: Airport, roads and COST!

...the Caribbean and it's Capitol is Kingston (South East of the island, fairly central). Montego Bay is located on the North of the island, and is also where the airport is situated. Righto, here's the nitty gritty: The airport has no air conditioning, so beware both arriving and departing! (believe me, with hundreds of other passengers squashed into the airport when we were leaving, it was NOT for the faint hearted!) On arrival, the airport staff take a very long time, to check your entry visas before letting you go on your merry way. Now, I KNOW the general ethos of Jamaica is 'No Problem' and the attitiude is very laid back, but after a 10 hour flight, sitting rigid in a space no larger than a cardboard BOX, I don't really appreciate laid backness!!! ...Anybody who has been lucky enough to go to Jamaica will be familiar with this saying, it seems to be the Jamaicans national catch phrase, and you know what? It’s usually true, nothing was too much trouble for the majority of Jamaicans we met when we stayed at the Sunset Beach Resort in Montego Bay. I say the majority because there was one or two incidents that went against this which I will tell you about later on in the review. But anyway, lets take a step back, my girlfriend and I had just had a lucky break money wise and were looking to treat ourselves to somewhere exotic and it came down to a toss up between Jamaica and The Dominican. Capo Bay Hotel, Protaras

Advantages: fantastic 4* hotel
Disadvantages: don't go there in the week that they close!

...We have just returned from our honeymoon in Cyprus. We stayed at the Capo Bay Hotel, which stands on the Fig Tree Bay in the resort of Protaras. It is one hours drive from Larnaca Airport. (I will reveiw Protaras as a resort separately. This review is solely on the Capo Bay Hotel). The hotel was fantastic. It is 4star hotel and the service and facilities are great. The Capo Bay hotel has 225 rooms over 4 floors and was built in 1985. It offers a gymnasium with massage and jacuzzi, tennis, scuba diving, pool, 2 swimming pools (1 heated) and 4 different restaurants to eat in, including 1 beside the pool. We paid £1500 for two weeks Bed & Breakfast. This was for an inland view room, but because we were on our honeymoon, we were upgraded to a seaview room. ...If you’re up for an irie time, visit Jamaica! We walked Waterfalls, swam with dolphins and had banana lessons! ...Sea. When we arrived at the airport, we had no idea in which resort we would be staying, but we were lucky as we found ourselves booked in at the Seawinds complex in Montego Bay. It was a little off the beaten track but ideally situated for a quiet, relaxing holiday, with its own restaurants, swimming pools and private beaches, including a nudist beach for those wishing to get an all-over tan! Our rooms were on the 9th floor with superb views over the harbour and beaches and we were able to see the visiting cruise ships, an impressive sight when lit overall at night. Currency used in town was the US dollar and Jamaican dollar, but in the complex, ?Sharks Teeth? were the only legal tender (each worth one US dollar or 28 Jamaican dollars). ...My father lives in Jamaica so i go out to visit him every other year or two. I love travelling and i enjoy being on a areoplane i have to admit the only thing i do dreed about the whole travelling experience is landing at Montego Bay airport after a 9 hour flight. Yes i'm more than thankful to have my feet on the ground and to have finally reached my destination but i find the whole process of going through the airport a nightmare. You'd think i would have got use to it the amount of times i done it but last years visit was the worse. I flew out with my two small children , partner. my mum my brother, his girlfriend and little boy. Paphian Bay Hotel Paphos

...I stayed at this hotel for one week in July 2005. It was brilliant. The hotel looked classy from the inside and out, and was only a short way from the shops and restaurants in Paphos. Check In: I arrived at this hotel with 2 other family members, it was night time and we were all feeling tired and stressed. The check in to the hotel was quick, even though there was only one receptionist there. We quickly found our room on the bottom floor of the hotel, just a little way down the corridor. What we thought was the bottom floor was actually not though, as we found out, you had to go downstairs to get to the pool and the other facilities. ...we changed. On our arrival in Jamaica we were met at the airport in Montego Bay by the Thomson rep. Put into what can only be described as a "Scooby Doo" style van/people carrier along with half a dozen other people. Our cases dumped on the back seat and had a driver who was affectionately called "Shaggy". We wondered what we were in for. On arrival at the hotel we were in awe. An absolutely huge reception area, high ceiling, tiled floor, bar to one side and desk to the other. With a view straight on across the complex out to sea. The inital rain had left off by now and the sun glistened on the sea. We realised we were in paradise. The man behind the desk greeted us with the customary Jamaican welcome of "yeah man". Now what with it being our honeymoon we thought we'd ask for an upgrade if possible and yep they sorted it...

...Me and my fiance went to Jamaica last year, and were the envy of all of our friends and family. It was simply two perfect blissful weeks of sheer beauty, luxury and being pampered. We went to Jamaica in May, on average the temperature was about 87(f) which is around 30(c). We stayed in a beautiful hotel called The Jack Tar Village which was an all inclusive hotel. It's around 15 minutes away from the airport, there is a fair bit of aircraft noise with it being that close to the actual airport. The hotel is built on a private beach, and it's also on the "hip strip" The hotel room was nicely furnished with a sattilite TV, air conditioning, hairdrier an iron with an ironing board, clock/radio and a safety deposit box too. The hotel in itself boasts two swimming pools, one of them has a swim up bar and it also has a whirlpool bath...
