Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.

Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied. On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. Hunting Out A Fox

Advantages: Great characters, interesting, great author
Disadvantages: Over-complex, not as good as other Walters books

...-plots and a gradual revealing of what has happened and - eventually - whodunit. But Fox Evil was so complex, it was detracting from my getting into the story as much as I usually would. I persevered and did finish the book and yes, I enjoyed it overall and by the end of it, I did work out all the various threads and found a satisfying conclusion - but I felt the book lost something by this over-complexity. The main story of the book centres on Colonel James Lockyer-Fox, an elderly man living in the Manor House in Shenstead. His wife Ailsa had died a while before and although the official verdict was one of natural causes, some of the village women have initiated a hate campaign of gossip and nasty phonecalls to the Colonel. The best NEW band out there! Fleet Foxes

Advantages: Original baroque style folk/rock, groundbreaking album
Disadvantages: Originality can challenge some people's mainstream tastes

...Now I don't often write music reviews, however having recently bought the Fleet Foxes album, I am compelled to rave about them. Now this band are like no other in todays music, however I guess there comparisons can be made with an earlier more ecletic mix of crosby stills and nash mixed with fleetwood mac, add a smuttering of Brian Wilson from the beach boys and Bob Dylan and your kinda getting close. Their routes are definietly in folk music, with what I like to call "Peasant Rock"......weired I know, but its really hard to pigeon hole them and essentially this is why I like them so much. Originality in todays music is the holy grail and much like one of my other favourite bands Sigur Ros, Fleet Foxes stand alone with a unique blend of folky pop/rock. ...James are probably one of the most under-rated bands of the past 25 years. They formed in Whalley Range, Manchester in 1981. Band members came and went in a flurry of activity until the band came across Tim Booth dancing like a complete loon at a disco they had sneaked into. Fox in Socks

Advantages: Colourful pictures, story is in rhyme

...A few weeks ago my nephews and niece came to sleep at my house, my youngest nephew wanted me to read a story before he went to bed and Fox in Socks by Dr Seuss was the one he picked. I gave him a choice of Dr Seuss books but he chose this one, as he'd never heard it before. Dr Seuss (pseudonym of Theodor Seuss Geisel) was born on 2nd March 1904 and died on 24th September 1991. During his lifetime he wrote nearly 50 children's books. He was probably most famous for The Cat in the Hat, which has also been made into a film. The whole book is written in rhyme which I think makes it more enjoyable for the children listening. The general story line is Mr Fox is trying to get Mr Knox to lots of different tongue twisters but poor Mr Knox just cannot get his tongue around them (I don't blame him - I found some of them pretty difficult...

Review of Fox in Socks - Dr. Seuss

Impossible to put a Fox`s party ring down!

Advantages: A delicious sweet iced biscuit

...Fox`s Party Rings remind me of Birthday parties, Pass the Parcel, Musical Chairs and when you have had enough of shrieking children running around your feet then a game of Sleeping Lions to wind down. The Iced party ring sits beautifully beside a plate of tiny bite sized sandwiches, individual trifles made in floral waxed dishes and a big iced birthday cake adorned with twirly candles. This all seems to imply that Fox`s Party Rings are for the youngsters, in fact I am well above the age of consent and I love a generous handful of Party rings to keep my cup of tea company. Our local Farmfoods often have them on offer, two packets for £1. Even the summer sky blue heat sealed packaging has its attractions, pink and yellow party rings are doing the Gay Gordons on the front of the packet and Linda Barker would have been proud...
