A Review of Jan Fennell's The Dog Listener

Advantages: Some useful training information, a few good insights.
Disadvantages: Jan's life, dog training and points on behavior are all muddled together.

...I have read, and enjoyed, Monty Roberts' book "The Man Who Listens to Horses" (he's the official "horse whisperer"). But this isn't the same calibre of book because it doesn't really seem to know what its purpose is... I ordered this off Amazon.com with an expectation that it might match up to the Monty Roberts book. I have two dogs, one of which is a boisterous puppy and the other a well-behaved dog. I hoped that The Dog Listener would help me to understand them better. Who Jan Fennell Is Jan Fennell is a dog expert in the UK. She has been a successful breeder and won prizes at Cruft's. She contributes her knowledge to the BBC's TV and radio shows and visits "delinquent dogs" to try and cure them of their problem. Format of The Dog Listener...

You leave me Breathless Mr Ward!

Advantages: Shayne Ward, lyrics, price
Disadvantages: It doesn't come with a free Shayne Ward

...faster than some, but you wouldn't hear it in a club. Track Six - Until You Good old slow track, Mr Ward sings a love story so well! Track Seven - Some Tears Never Dry More dramatic, another great song. Track Eight - Melt The Snow Probably my least favourite song on the album. Words are good, but its just a bit wishy washy for my liking. Track Nine - Tangled Up Quite a dancy track this one, again with a George Michael sound, still not sure which one this reminds me of either. No problem as far as I'm concerned as I quite like George as well! Track Ten - Just Be Good To Me A redo of the original, slightly more beaty, sings it well. ...If you are a fan of all things fantasy or sci-fi related then you'll understand the joys of being plucked out of your humdrum life and transported off to a land of magic and mystery. SHAYNE WARD REVIEW & TRACK LISTING

Advantages: good solid vocals
Disadvantages: lack of variety

.... Tracks You're not alone and I cry are so westlife/boyzone bland it's difficult to find anything to say about them. What about me is a cheesy lyric pop ballad best forgotten. Back at one also suffers from slightly cheesy lyrics but is better than the previous 3 tracks. Then there are surprise surprise 3 more ballads the first of which someone to love is a pleasant love song the 2nd something worth living for seems to be in the style of daniel bedingfield and lastly a better man which shows off shaynes vocal abilities better than most tracks. The 2nd to last track on the album is next to me and its a mid-tempo soul pop number which is well written and well performed. I think we could see big things from shayne ward in the future but I think this album will sell fast and then be forgotten. Lets hope he gets a second album to develop...

...I picked this up from scholastic cover to cover catalogue that my school library gets every month! There was a review from an 11 year old who talked about this book saying it was good, and now I agree with her! I hadn?t ever heard of Rachel Ward, but if I had to base her on this one book, I'd say she is an author that will get on my top 10 authors sometime soon once I've read more of her! She hasn't released any more books, so it is possible this would be her one and only book she ever releases, and if that's the case then we might just about lose a great author. I'm really hoping she does release some more books soon! Ever since Jem has been born she has seen numbers in people?s eyes, but has never quite understood them. I love you Infinity Ward!

Advantages: Amazing!, Fantastic Online gameplay, well designed campaign levels, Detailed and accurate

...How can I say this without destroying something... THIS GAME IS ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT! Following on from a long line of Call of Duty games, CoD4 (as it has been coined) excels in what it does. Infinity Ward were chosen after the repetitive nature of World War 2: don't get me wrong, killing Nazi's and stuff is always fun, but Modern Warfare stepped the entire CoD Game up like... 16 notches. The campaign is fanastic. You are 'Soap' and you've been picked for being the best of the bunch. You're immersed in a tutorial-based intro (which actually turns out to be linked with a nice little achievement) where you have to go through a simulation as quickly as you can. ...If you expect things to be done properly, DO NOT USE this company. I ordered a fridge freezer, i chose the 10 day delivery option (advertised as free on the order page of the site). When I paid the total they had charged me £4.95 for this free service. Oh well it was still cheap. Then I check the delivery date, this shows as expected 20th Jan. 13 days rather than 10. Oh well was cheap enough. I kept an eye on the delivery date and booked the 20th Jan off (I did this on the 19th,). I got home from work (on the 19th) and got a call (about 5.30, too late to rearrange anything) advising it will be delivered on the 21st (checked the web site, it was still showing 20th Jan expected delivery date, which it still is (now the 20th). However it is now showing route planned as well! I called to complain and was passed to cust serv...

...The Dog Listener by Jan Fennell is a dog behavior book which if you follow claims to put your book on the straight and narrow. Jan Fennell claims to have used the skills developed by the horse whisperer Monty Roberts to use the dogs inate desire for alpha dog status, so if you become the alpha male than the dog should obey your every instruction. So the book itself is split into easy chapter designed to reinforce the pack, make you the pack leader and therefore turn your rebellious pooch into a perfectly trained dog. Jan Fennell is according to the authors notes, a trained psychologist, she like Clint Eastwood knows about people (or in Jans life dogs), so establish yourself as the pack leader and the dog will follow, allow it to be the pack leader and you will follow not the dog. Bringing back tradition

...This book is written by Jan Fearnley and tells the story of a wolf who is hungry and fancies some pancakes. He decides to have a go at cooking them but doesn't know where to start so asks the hen that lives up the road. She is very rude and tell him to go away. He then realizes that he should read a cook book to get the ingrediants and method together but can't read very well so asks another member of village to help. It seems that everyone in the village is in a grumpy mood and doesn't want to give Mr Wolf the time of day to help him make some pancakes but thankfully he under estimates his own abilities and soon the smell of freshly baked pancakes is wafting through the village. All of the friends come knocking on Mmr Wolf's door and very rudely ask to eat them with him and after a moments thought he welcomes them into his home...
