Oh, wow! It's Jane!

Advantages: attractive, powerful, emotional, amazing vocals, great range of tracks, outstanding power
Disadvantages: n/a

...I cannot believe its only been two years since I first fell in love with ITV lunch time chat show Loose Women. It feels like it has been part of my life for so much longer than that! During that time I grew to idolise the panel; each and every one of them is genuine. I don't have a favourite ? how could I possibly choose? They're all unique but equally fantastic with their own strong personalities and set minds. One of these lovely ladies is Jane McDonald! Now Jane's career, like the rest, did not start out as a Loose Women! Born in 1963, the Yorkshire lass toured local pubs and bars, before travelling on cruises, singing beautifully for everybody. After signing a record deal she released several successful albums as well as an autobiography, Follow Your Dreams, and appeared in TV show, 'The Cruise', and of course, Loose Women when...

FREE DVDs

Advantages: Free trial, large choice, post included, new realeases
Disadvantages: see review

...I like movies and I like freebies, so when you get offered both in one swoop you?re bound to accept! I used my two week free trial with this company and remained with them for a couple of monthsbefore moving on to try many other companies free trials (and winning a new DVD player on Tesco DVD rental site on their free trial offer). I then had an email from DVDs 365 asking me to go back, and offering me a free DVD if I did so. I had just left Tesco (with my new DVD player) so I chose to go back with them. ∆◊◊ THE SERVICE THEY OFFER ∆◊◊ Basically it?s like going to a video shop and hiring films on DVD, except you don?t pay for each film you chose ? rather a monthly fee for which you can watch as many movies as you can fit in, for us this is usually around 8 a month (2 a week usually weekends...

Tarzan and Jane

Advantages: None that I can think of.
Disadvantages: Many - read the review.

...Before I start: I'm reviewing the video (so there'll be nothing about special features, etc. - just the film) Tarzan is one of those stories most people know (or at least know a version of it) or are at least familiar with. The story I know is the Disney version - Tarzan is raised by gorillas then meets Jane and falls in love with her. You know, it's one of those lovey dovey stories (although there is a lot of action in it - remember it's animated though, don't get your hopes up). Anyway, I spotted the sequal in Oxfam and it's a film I don't have. Since all the videos in the shop are 3 for £1.00 just now I decided just to buy it and see what it's like. I'm afraid to say I was very disappointed by it. It was a waste of money (although I'm not going to complain about 33p). There were many things I didn't like about it. For a start it...

Jane Norman

Advantages: Lovely selection
Disadvantages: Sizes

... For Starters Jane Norman to me as a teenager was always slightly too expensive and if you bought anything in there, you used the bag for your PE kit for at least a few weeks!! Now i'm older and earning, I realise that Jane Norman isn't drop dead designer, and is actually pretty affordable, and always up to date on trend. So as you can imagine, on this discovery I started popping in there every time I pass. You can actually commonly spot Jane Norman in most shopping centres so they are not easy to avoid. Who's it for This is definately a younger design shop even the music played inside is mostly aimed at the 20 - 30 age. But as with most clothes shops now, the brand is diversifying and now most of their designs can be worn by many. Clothing Range I find Jane Norman a great place to go if you have a little party...

Reinventing Jane

Advantages: Decent performances and some witty remarks.
Disadvantages: It's very derivative and predictable.

...The young Jane Austen is determined to become a writer. But in England in the year 1795, women are expected only to marry well and be good wives. Those with education are treated with suspicion and those that work, with open hostility. Jane?s anxious parents are trying to steer her into a respectable marriage when she meets the headstrong and charming Tom LeFroy. He is a handsome and clever young Irish lawyer sent away from London to avoid any more scandalous situations. Julian Jarrold?s background in directing for TV shows itself in virtually every frame of this movie that plays like a cross between Jane Austen?s greatest hits and a feature length commercial for Ireland (where the film was shot). It?s directly appealing to people that would watch one of the BBC?s high-end costume dramas, which is presumably why it so closely...

Review of Becoming Jane (DVD)

Jane Eyre

Advantages: Excellently written
Disadvantages: None

...As a bildungsroman, Jane Eyre follows the journey of its heroine's development from youth to intellectual maturity. As the novel progresses the theme of religion is one that takes a strong hold on Jane herself. In order to analyse the question, one must differentiate between Paganism and Christianity. The simple difference is that Paganism believes in a variety of Gods, each controlling a different aspect of life. Although Pagans deem their God's are perfect they understand that no one God can control the whole world. Pagans believe that everything happens for a reason, whether it is a thunderstorm, a good or bad crop, or a death or birth of an infant. The God's do everything for a reason. Christianity, on the other hand, only believes in One God. The perfect God who controls the whole world. Unlike Pagans, Christians believe that...

Review of Jane Eyre - Charlotte Bronte

Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.

...At first I wasn't convinced by up-scaling DVD player technology but was persuaded after reading an article in "What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision" magazine. Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied. On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. All the components such as cables, remote and manuals were well presented in their own protective plastic bags, to keep them protected. The player...

Jane

Advantages: Beautiful film!
Disadvantages: Nothing

...I've always been a big fan of the Bronte sisters - in particular, Charlotte. Jane Eyre is probably her most well-known work, and so it's not surprising that there have been several versions of it made on film. But out of all of them, the one that I've been able to watch straight through, enraptured at every moment, has been this version, with Charlotte Gainsborough and William Hurt. I can't officially compare it to the other versions since I haven't seen them in their entirety (though now I'm convinced I have to at least try) - so this review is strictly on this DVD. For a quick synopsis of the story - Jane Eyre is a young girl living with her nightmare aunt who treats her terribly, and ends up sending her to a boarding school. Young Jane is portrayed by Anna Paquin, who does it brilliantly. The loathing for her aunt, her innocence...

Review of Jane Eyre (DVD)

Sarah Jane spins off from the Doctor

Advantages: Entertaining for the kids, not too frightening and good story lines
Disadvantages: The loud background music is sometimes too loud

..., but on the DVDs you get to watch them when ever you want to. And with each one being 25 minutes long you?re talking nearly an hour for each story, which is a good length to keep the kids from getting too bored, although with the freaky stuff going on in the show I doubt that they will get bored at all. As I said, my kids love this show and watch it at every opportunity, be it on the BBC channel or on DVD, so I have a great way to keep them quiet for at least an hour. The only downfall is that once they watch this they than try and emulate the ?monsters? they have just been hoping that Sarah Jane would outwit, which does sometimes lead to one or two ?incidents? involving a so called ?sonic? lipstick and my freshly painted walls. This first series is full of alien encounters, some coming across a little scary, but all gaining the full...

Review of Sarah Jane Adventures - Series 1 (DVD)

Jane Powertwin

Advantages: Easy to steer, compact, suitable from birth, car seat compatible.
Disadvantages: Heavy to lift in and out of car.

...I bought the Jane Powetwin when my daughters were 3 months and 18 months. It came with raincover, 2 hoods and footpump. Reason for purchase was I had already bought a side by side pushchair but couldn't get through many doorways. At first I attached the rebel car seat to the pram for my 3 month old. The good thing was it could be attched to the front or back position. As the front seat only has one recline I used to put the car seat on the front position so my 18 month old could si in the rear seat and fully recline it if she fell asleep. The powertwin is really easy to manouver. You can push and steer it with one hand. The handle height is adjustable to many levels. It also has a hand brake for going down hill as can run away with you. The seat units are removeable for washing. The front seat has one recline position and the rear...
