Old School Janet

Advantages: funky and full of great tracks
Disadvantages: tons of two second tracks (???)

...Thought I'd go back to the past for this review - the early 90s! Was listening to this album last night and thought it would be a good cd to review because a) it is consistently of a high standard and b) it is probably the last album of janet jackson's which I really enjoyed. It features a ton of great songs and styles and is definitely a must-have. I bought Janet's last album "All for You" and wasn't too impressed with it. Although there were a couple of really good tracks on it, when you compare it to the quality of THIS album, it just pales in comparison. Here's a look at the best tracks . . . It's Janet... Ms. Jackson If You're Nasty

Advantages: A few big tunes
Disadvantages: Some weaker tracks

...?Control? came out in 1986 and was the third album by Janet Jackson. Although strictly a Pop album, this has Janet switch form here bubblegum years to a more exciting one as R&B, Hip Hop and Swing was brought into here material starting here. Of the nine tracks on this, seven of them when out as singles (most of which went straight into the top ten). 1. ?Control? To kick the thing off you find her breaking free as she moves on from being managed by her father, and having the chance to express this through new, vibrant music, and with the new age sounds of Electronic and Hip Hop being prominent at this time, the novelty of it meant that she had to bring this into her stuff here. Advantages: some really great songs like mermac river and very different from competition

...Amanda Leigh the tittle name of the album is actually Mandy Moores real name. She's not your typical Pop artist and she does not try to be.In fact in this album she tries not to have you r typical Pop sound most of the songs are acoustic with the exception of Track number three called I could break yopur heart any day of the week.I have had mixed feelings about her album and for me its been 50/50 some of it I have liked and some of the song I think will slowly Grow on me. My favorite song off the album is Merrimack River which is an acoustic song which I could listen to unlimited amount of times. It is very sad that she has not done a lot better with her albums Her album sales are not in the same league as Britney Spears or Christina Agulera. Her album is very hard to find in music stores so my advice is That you order it from amazon...

Advantages: A whole new Janet emerges, new styles, hard hitting attitude.
Disadvantages: May be too raw for some Janet fans

...To many people, Janet Jackson is a blend of up-beat R&B and late 80’s pop. Her first 3 releases are clear indicators of this, all of which were highly successful. However, when the time came for the release of this album, The Velvet Rope, there seemed to be a noticeable change in both her image and her musical attitude. Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.

...At first I wasn't convinced by up-scaling DVD player technology but was persuaded after reading an article in "What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision" magazine. Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied. On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. Keep It To Yourself Janet

Advantages: There are 3, possibly 4 tracks which are good
Disadvantages: Fillers, blatant attempt to toughen up

...Where is Janet Jackson and what is she up to? I saw a picture of her looking like a vagrant in one of the celebrity magazines my wife reads. As usual there are many rumours going round regarding her absence from the music scene, and the one I have heard most recently is that she is pregnant by well known R&B producer Jermaine Dupris, and she wants to go through the pregnancy away from the glare of the spotlight. Now, whether this is down a protective maternal instinct, or a desire that the media never see her looking less than perfect remains to be seen. I would not say that I am a major fan of Janet Jackson, but once in a while she seems to release a single which really grabs me, and I end up buying the album in the hope that I will get more of the same, and I have to say that generally I feel let down by the standard of her albums...

Advantages: It's got the first single on it
Disadvantages: It's too samey, interludes spoil instead of help

...I'm listening to it now. I'm going to try and review whilst on a first listen. Be gentle with me as it's my first music review! I am expecting something as good Rhythm Nation 1814 but I'll more than likely get something like Velvet Rope. Let's see... The way Janet's albums are stuck together is generally about 14 songs with little sound bites or studio 'bloopers' and every track normally blends into each other giving you about 70 minutes of non-stop music. This one is no exception. Opening with... 1 - Looking For Love 1:29 ...which is a narrative set to some peaceful music with a pulsing tone fading in periodically. You have the lady herself on about the creativity and energy in all of us and that we're all looking for love. Nice. It's a half decent warm up for... 2 - Damita Jo 2:45 ...the title track which breaks down...
