Helpful Java textbook

Advantages: Clear, with advanced features covered

...When learning a new programming language (as all programmers must do to keep up with modern developments), it is vital to have a good book to teach you the basics, and guide you through the more complex aspects of the language. Indeed, it is also important to have a good reference to refer back to later. Core Java is one such book. It comes in 2 volumes, the first covering the basics and the second the more complex aspects. It breaks you in gently, but refrains from taking the approach of other books and loading you down with more theory than you need, and not actually giving you any code to work on until the 215th page. You feel as though you?re actually getting somewhere with Core Java, and this is encouraging. A well paced Java book

Advantages: Quick and to the point
Disadvantages: Probably not a huge amount of depth

...If you're after a Java programming book and need to learn the basics fast, I don't think you can go far wrong with a book I borrowed from a friend. The book is called 'Essential Java 2 Fast' and is by John Cowell. It covers all you need to know to to be able to write basic Java 2 applications and applets. Unlike mest other Java books I've looked at, this one isn't 'Noddy goes to toyland' in its approach. ;-) It's well paced, and tells you what you need to know, and as the title says - fast. It can be worked through in a matter of days, as the examples are not too heafty. Modern Warfare 2 - Fun but not Fantastic

Advantages: intriguing gameplay, flawless sound/graphics, rolling storyline
Disadvantages: anti-climax, little repetitive, nothing really new to catch onto

...The hype was wild for Halo 3, it continued for the anticipations of Halo Wars and many were disappointed. Hype was given for Gears of War and that continued for Gears of War 2 and many were disappointed. Likewise Call of Duty was bound to reach a similar anti-climax and so far it has. The overall conclusion is that is fun but not fantastic. However it is important to note that unless you are the stereotypical gamer who has his own gaming chair complete with a surrounding of cookies, crisps, full fat cola, a headset and the limited edition of Halo 3's Spartan mask, likiness is you won't find the game at all a let down. Afterall Infinity Ward are possibly the only people to construct a war-time gaming experience that steers well clear of clichés which removes the unbelievable characters who would look more in place in a Marvel Comic strip...

Advantages: Compared to the first modern warfare they have added driving in the story and its more detailed.
Disadvantages: To be honest, besides a few environmental graphics, it looks to be the shooter of the decade.

...Call of Duty Modern warfare 2 looks amazing if you?re a halo freak you will fall in love with this first person shooter. It's very detailed. They even switched the map to the screen on your gun unlike any game I have seen before. As far as if you just want to buy the game, and not go online to play, the story line features are so much better. You can even drive on this epic 1st person shooter. The disadvantages to this game as far as I can see are only a few visual slumps like every once in awhile a car will not look as realistic but everything else is wonderful. If you?re looking for a gift for a gamer or just want to try an epic 1st person shooter then this is the game for you....
