...The Iomega Jaz drive is a good solution for those who want to exchange dynamic data from one computer to another. The Jaz drive is a fairly quick device. It is not as fast as a harddisk, but certainly quicker than a tape or a CD-ROM. You can use a Jaz disk as a booting device, which gives you the opportunity to work with several operating systems.
Do not use a Jaz-disk as a permanent storage device. The disks are quite expensive and need to be refreshed every two or three year. For permanent data storage a CD is much more suitable. But for dynamically exchanging data a Jaz-drive is very nice.
Disadvantage of the Jaz is its noise. The disk rotates at high speed in the Jaz-player that makes a high rustling sound. If the Jaz is in its standby state it is sometimes not approachable. You have to eject and insert it again to get access to...

Advantages: Cheap Disadvantages: Now old technology
...I bought the JazPiper when it had just come out, and it was then the best MP3 player on the market. Then it was an excellent player, and won several awards. However, as with all new technology, it was soon outclassed by a whole host of new MP3 players with more memory, longer playback time and better facilities. Some good points and bad points are below:
GOOD POINTS:
- Stylish, sleek design
- Good transfer rate from PC to player - up to over a megabyte per second
- Skips between tracks easily and quickly
- Voice record - over 2 hours of recording
- 10 hours playback (alright)
BAD POINTS:
- Every so often, something strange happens, and the JazPiper will not respond and displays strange symbols. The only way to sort this is to remove the batteries, and when you replace them it's fine - all the songs still there. Having made...

...I bought my 1st JazPiper over 3 years ago at a cost of £149 which at the time was an incredible buy. There just wasn't anything else on the market to compete with it.
The model I bought was the 32 meg and expanded it with a 32 meg expansion card (which was the max allowed). Still at near cd quality I could store approx 14 tracks, still good for the time
My first shock came when I upgraded from WIN98 to WIN2000 and the Desktop software didn't work. Even wrote to Singapore and got a very terse reply from their support saying, I quote "We don't know if we are going to bother writing drivers for WIN2000".... This is not what you want to hear after just forking out £150 for a piece of kit. Anyway 6 months later a WIN2000 / XP version came out for the Jazpiper.

...If all you're after is a half-way decent MP3 player, then this does the job just fine, but it's hardly the best one out there. The 32MB of storage space that comes with it as standard is nothing like enough, so the first thing you'll want to buy is a SmartMedia card, which will add another £50 or so to the cost of the unit.
Anyway, that aside, the unit is easy enough to use; everything you need comes in the box and the software installs easily enough. The software itself is... well, functional, I suppose. You'll probably want to stick with whatever MP3 software you currently use, and use the JazPiper software solely for file transfers. File transfer from PC to the unit is sloooooow!
