JBL Creature II

Advantages: Wonderful sound quality, Suprisingly low price, Amazing design
Disadvantages: None that I can see.

...Before I bought these speakers about a year ago, I had thoroughly searched the internet for any opinion, review, press release, and editorial on the Creature II and discovered that these were rather exceptional speakers. Yet I was still concerned that this was a product of design over quality - simply due to the shockingly small size of the satellite speakers (about the size of your fist), and that JBL were more concerned about desigining some speakers that would complement Apple Macs than impress the music listener. Even when I went to Tottenham Court Road to test out the Creature II, I was not quite convinced that the audio quality was up to scratch. This could have been due to the fact that it was very noisy in-store, with lots of people and the obligatory shop muzak playing - obviously no condition to seriously compare speaker...

JBL Creature II

Advantages: Good sound quality, Looks Great
Disadvantages: Resonance at 50Hz

...I'm quite knowledgable about speakers systems, so i bought these after doing a lot of research to make sure i was getting a good product. They are simple to get working and i was initially very happy with the quality of sound they produced. After about 2 hours of playing with my new gadget i found that the sub resonated quite audiably at 50Hz. I thought this was a fault with the system so I exchanged them for another 'Creature II' and i still found this resonance was apparent. Im guessing its just the natural frequency of the sub which is a shame as it is in audiable range. After a few hours of fiddling with high and low pass filters and an equaliser I managed to get rid of this problem, fine for me but i feel this may be a bit complex for novices. After sorting out the initial problems, I can safely say that this is one of the best...

JBL and Tesco, every little helps.

Advantages: Small, good sound, good design.
Disadvantages: Almost indestructable packaging.

...I can't believe no-one has reviewed this yet! I bought one for my wife as a Christmas present recently, and she loves it. I bought her an Ipod video Nano recently, so this was a logical accessory for use at home. I paid £49 in Tesco (reduced from £79) in November 2007, and last time I looked, they were still £49. I bought a black one, it looks ok with the silver Ipod Nano, but of the pack of universal dock adapters, none matched with the Nano, so we had to use the white one that came with the Ipod (black JBL, white adapter, silver Ipod, never mind). Sound quality is very good, and the sound is very clear for such a small unit. The remote only has 5 buttons, but this is enough to drive the neccessary functions of the Ipod. One thing that caught my wife out is the power switch, on the rear of the unit. When plugged in...

...I have owned 2 pairs of JBL Control 1 speakers and they have never let me down! The first pair I owned I gave to my dad as he liked the sound so much! These are bookshelf speakers and measure (H x W x D) 227 x 130 x 140 mm. They can be mounted on a stand, on a shelf or you can also order the wall brackets from jbl. For the size they have an excellent sound, warm solid bass with crisp mid and treble. They are 100 watts RMS and can really handle some power. The speaker is 2 way, comprising of a 4" bass woofer and a 1/2" titanium laminate dome tweeter. These speakers also feature a front mounted bass port. When you play the speakers loud its is astonishing the amount of air that is forced out of the bass ports! The budget, stylish Woofer system

Advantages: stylish, sleek and on a budget
Disadvantages: not high quality sound and not portable

...**What Is It?** The JBL mulitmedia speaker system "woofers" are a speaker set. It comes with the big sub-woofer and 2 smaller satelite speakers. **What is It Compatible With?** It says in the title PC multimedia, but i just plugged it onto my Mac G5 and it worked fantastically! That is a bit misleading as it can work with basically any mulitimedia appliance. It works with all Macs and PC's but it also even works with Laptops, porartable DVD players, walkmans and even MP3/ipods! It will work with anythng that needs headphones so it doesn't nessicarily be for the computer. I have mine for the Mac however but i have tried it with an ipod and it works brilliantly. The Good, The Bad and The Pretty

Advantages: Visually unique design, fairly cheap
Disadvantages: Mediocre sound reproduction with poor range

...a strikingly tinny sound, while the system's entire midrange generally feels unbalanced. Priced at around £50 these are budget speakers so no one expects sonic perfection but even the untrained ear is likely to find them flawed particularly because it fails to live up to JBL's previous reputation. It is clear that you are paying for the design alone as similarly priced alternatives from Logitech are able to produce a far superior sound albeit without the looks to match. So I cannot help but feel the JBL Creature II is a somewhat shallow purchase that audiophiles will detest while Mac users are likely to love because it matches the machines beautifully. To the forgiving ear they are still respectable with a good build quality at a low price. But at the end of the day they are speakers, and if they fail in sound reproduction I find myself unable...
