Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.

...At first I wasn't convinced by up-scaling DVD player technology but was persuaded after reading an article in "What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision" magazine. Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied. On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. Toilet Humour

Advantages: Great fun, hits the spot.
Disadvantages: None

...queuing up to go to the toilet in the zoo (I think, but it not really clear), both asking, 'Who's in the Loo.' There then follows some of their ideas as to who might be taking so long in the loo. For example: "Is it a stoat who's making a stink? Or a pig who's washing his pants in the sink?" There, it is a simple plot, and not too taxing. The book was written by Jeanne Willis and Adrian Reynolds did the artwork. Willis has other books to her credit, such as 'The Really Rude Rhino,' and 'Grill Pan Eddie.' A chicken and a baby chick explain the concept of love!

...On our weekly visit to the library I was searching through the books for Noah and came across this one. I had a quick flick through and decided it might be a nice to bring home and read. The book is written by Jeanne Willis and illustrated by Jan Fearnley. It's quite a new one and was only printed last year (2008) by Walker Books LTD. The story tells of a chicken and it's baby chick. The baby chick gets himself into all sorts of predicaments on purpose, only to ask his mother if she still loves him and why. Each time the mother explains that she does until it gets to a point in the book where the mother has to shout at the chick. The chick gets extremely upset so the mother has to explain why she shouted but that she still loves him. The roles are then reversed at the end when little chick tells his mummy that he loves her...

Advantages: Great fiction about passion & power struggles in 15th century Florence.
Disadvantages: Historical accuracy of the main character?

This book was written in between caring for her husband while he was having chemotherapy, and she praises him for his good humour during the treatment and her writing of the novel. This book has been published as ?I Mona Lisa? is the USA, but the title was changed to ?Painting Mona Lisa? for the UK market. I don?t think they should have changed the title, as the book spends little time telling us of the Mona Lisa painting, but the lady, known as Mona Lisa, is the main character of the story. This is the first book by this author that I have read. Having enjoyed it, I will now look out for her other published historical novels, which are The Borgia Bride and The Burning Times. Advantages: A starting point to discuss manners and politeness with older children. Humorous element for children.
Disadvantages: Young children could find the rhino so funny that they begin to copy his rudeness.

The English Guy is the Hero!!!

Advantages: Classic Action/Fantasy Flick

...Yes, you better believe it! David Thewlis, an English actor with a slight northern twinge to his accent, plays the hero and saviour in this film! Even more surprising considering the film also stars Val Kilmer who's your typical American-Good Looking-Action Hero.
