Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.

Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied. On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. ...Jeff Buckley was a wonderful song writer and musician, with possibly the best voice that has existed in the world of music! An extremely skilled man, especially with the ability at singing in both falsetto and his normal singing range, in order to give himself a huge range of notes that he is able to use in his music! I've never heard a man with such a beautiful voice. Jeff Buckley's only full studio album made before his death, "Grace", includes songs that Buckley has covered, but also his own songs. The album demonstrates both his amazing song writing ability, and also the skill he had in order to make a song his own, and to put his own stamp on that song! Jeff Buckley- Grace, A musical grace

Advantages: Amazing vocals, stunning melodies, overall raw emotions
Disadvantages: May not be for fans of dance, too short

...Back in 1994 when Grace was originally released it was seen as a commercial failure, but a musical hit. People from Bono (u2) to Matt Bellamy (muse) to Chris Martin (Coldplay) have held it in high esteem but why? Well since Mr Buckley's death the album's sales have outsold the original figure, as musical tastes have developed to accept it more. When it was released the public were waiting for a new Nirvana to come along, Sony pushed Jeff as the guy to fill the void, the public didn't buy it. Where as Kurt Cobains singing was seen as angsty, and venomous, Buckley's was seen as angellic with a topping of purity, much like his fathers. ...Grace was simply a beautiful album. Jeff Buckley was an immensely talented singer, and his loss to the world was a loss to all of us. You have only to listen once through the album to appreciate his sheer brilliance, though it takes many more to truly understand. From the reflective and introspective vocals on what is probably his most famous track, 'Hallelujah', to the unorthodox vocal mastery on 'Mojo Pin', and the euphoria-inducing 'Lilac Wine', this is a demonstration of Buckley's incredible versatility and the heady emotion of his singing and songwriting.
