Job Centre fiasco

...Very briefly as the wife of a man who was made redundant the thought of the Job Centre plus being helpful no longer exists. As a mortgage holder and family with two school age children my husband was only entitled to Job Seeks Allowance (JSA). This was paid for 26 weeks and then after still not successful in securing employment, this was stopped. Because I work more than 20 hours a week (I am still only part time) I am expected to support the family and bills. My husband has never been asked how much I earn. This assessment is merely done of the hours I work and not the take home pay coming into the home. Having never claimed any benefits at all before this (but we are in a recession as you all know) we enquired about training and extra help, but, alas, there was no entitlement apparently. Wembley Job Centre

Advantages: By signing on every 2 weeks you get some money.
Disadvantages: The staff are not very well trained.

I have worked since I was 17 only taking 6 months maternity leave for each of my 2 children. When I was made redundant on 6th July 2008, the last thing on my mind was signing on for job seekers allowance. The Italian Job

Advantages: action and entertainment
Disadvantages: far cry from the origanal

...the 21st century, as is the storyline and the hi tech gadgets that are used to pull off the bullion robbery. The new style Mini Cooper, (which aren't so mini anymore) are re-introduced, racing again through the sewers and the subway systems after bringing L.A. to a complete gridlock. There are a few similarities between the '69 movie and this remake but the main movie is totally different. I suppose if this movie was given a different title I may have enjoyed it more as I was constantly comparing it to the original, so this spoiled it slightly for me as I was totally lost as to why this was called 'the Italian Job'?? considering most of the car chases and the action was in Los Angeles?? Maybe they should have called it 'The L.A. Job? with the stuff we nicked from Italy'..?? Don't get me wrong, this is an action packed movie...

The Italian Job

...It's not often that a remake of a classic movie is a hit but in my opinion the 2003 version of the Italian Job was a great movie. The original version of the film is classified as a British caper film with lots of darsterdly deeds. It came out in 1969 and starred Michael Caine. Now I can't say that I've seen this version but from all accounts it was a classic. Apparently, according to an article I read, in 2004 the magazine Total Film named The Italian Job the 27th greatest British film of all time. The line "You were only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!", said by Michael Caine in the film, was voted the favourite movie one-liner in a 2003 poll of 1000 movie fans. Advantages: With luck, you might find a job. Website is easy to use.
Disadvantages: Difficult to get hold of an actual company when applying for one of their jobs

I've tried a few others too, such as Reed (but was told this was only for office work and I had no experience, so was turned away) and a local one in Colchester (but they had NO permanent work, only temping, which I had no interest in at the time). My advice to you on job agencies

Advantages: someone to work on your behalf, they can save you lots of hassle
Disadvantages: they can be rude and pressurising, costs lots of money in phone calls, time consuming to register

The internet is a great thing to have and for finding work. There are many sites now where you can register your details and your CV's is viewable to all the agencies and they contact you about positions they have available. You can also search for jobs and apply on line for them. I have had many agencies contact me in the last two weeks and my mobile phone bill is soaring this month as I have had to call them all back.That is after paying to get their message. Is the job centre really helping us with unemployment?!

Advantages: You recieve help for looking for a job.
Disadvantages: EVERYTHING ABOUT THE JOBCENTRE IS A DISADVANTAGE!!!!!!
