...Meet Joe Black is in my opinion a very strange film. It's rather long at nearly 3 hours in length yet the storyline is very simple. The way in which it is constructed however and because of the nature of the story itself makes the film a rather pensive one and so the 3 hour length gives the audience time to think and reflect on what the story is trying to tell you. The film begins with a chance meeting between Claire, a millionaire's daughter and a charming young man in a coffee shop. From the start there is definitely an air of romance within the air. Could this be the man her dad was always telling her to find. Unfortunately as the pair leave the coffee shop in opposite directions a car hits the young man. ...Released in 2000, "My Name Is Joe" is the thrird album from the R&B singer Joe (Thomas). I feel that it it wasn't for my father's taste of music, I would have never have heard of Joe, because he is really underrated outside of this genre of music, but in this category, he is (or was) one of the best in the game, so he should be showed a lot more respect. "Intro (My Name Is Joe)" "Somebody Gotta Be on Top" Although this song deals with all the typical things which you would expect to hear from a track such as this, it doesn't really have the power which you get to see in other parts of the album, so it is just a second rate version of the rest of the songs here. However as he is consistantly strong, it means that the overall quality isn't effected as it doesn't sound that poor away from this album. **Three Stars...

King Kong's Brother? No it's Mighty Joe!

...Mighty Joe Young is a lovely Disney film which a saw a few years ago but also managed to pick up on DVD for my husband last week as he said he would like to watch it again. He is not related to King Kong as my hubby has told my boys but he is just another large gorilla! The film starts with a gorilla and a young girl both becoming orphans as poachers kill both their parents. The mother worked in the jungle looking after the gorillas and trying to stop them from being hunted and killed. The daughter Jill, played by Charlie Theron, promises her mother that she will stay in the jungle and continue doing her work and also look after Joe the gorilla now he also has no mother. The film then moves on to the present day where we see a group of men going out into the jungle in search of animals to kill. Amongst this group is a zoologist...

...Instrumental guitar albums played by guitar virtuosos are not to everyones taste. Indeed only guitar players tend to show an interest, but Joe Satriani has stradled the line between cult and mainstream more than most of his contempories. Self taught and teacher to other notable names in the field Satriani has released 15 albums highlighting his brand of distorted riffs and catchy leads. This anthology brings his best work under one package, encompassing his full twenty year career up to that point. His abiltiy to deliver a song where the guitar sounds like a lead vocal by use of beautifully composed melodic licks is the secret to his succsess. Still his best works, his 1987 album "Surfing with the Alien" gets decent representation here. "Always with Me, Always with You" is an exceptional love song with a wonderful palm muted intro...

Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.

...At first I wasn't convinced by up-scaling DVD player technology but was persuaded after reading an article in "What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision" magazine. Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied. On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. ...'Joe Thomas' is the seventh album from American RnB artist Joe released in September 2008. I have been a huge fan of this artist for many years and have always known him as 'Joe' so I did a little digging on this album and found that his full name is indeed 'Joe Lewis Thomas' and this is his self-titled album after so many years and after 6 other great albums.. Although it is his self-titled album, in my opinion it is not his best. In my opinion, his best album to date is still 'My Name Is Joe' , his third album released in 2000 which reached 3 x Platinum in the US and is one of my favourite albums to date. Back to 'Joe Thomas', the album has a great selection of tracks; the more popular ones being 'E.R' which was released as the main single off the album.
